Gotchya boss, no coughing. All business here sir. Nate Allen's a pretty sick pick. Props to that guy.
Yeah I had an impossibly busy day when a week ago this was going to be my day of rest. That's why I didn't even create a draft board. I thought I was going to be around. Instead, I fuck up the flow. I hang my head in shame.
WW85 sent me his draft board last night....to keep things moving...I sent in his pick for the Eagles. I also have Quack's draft board...his pick will be coming up momentarily. EDIT: Actually, I'll give Quack a few hours to show up before i pull the trigger on his pick....
Rob Gronkowski would have been a nice pick for the Ravens if he dropped a few more spots but I am pretty happy to steal Odrick here. He had a real nice Senior Bowl.
Rob Gronkowski was a very good pick by the Bengals. Especially since they passed on Gresham in the fist. Palmer certainly could use more weapons, specifically at TE.
I felt Zona needed help on defense in this draft. Although their secondary gets blasted, they have a ton of young talent in that area, that just eneds to further develop. They are attempting to switch to a 3-4 hybrid scheme...which are what my first 2 picks reflect. A speedy hybrid type like Kindle and a tough classic big ten LB like Lee will go a long way in improving this defense long term.
Gronkowski was a great pick for the Bengals. The Lee pick was solid for the Cardinals, but that team really enjoys prototypes and size/speed numbers....I think BLANK or even BLANK would have been "better" picks. Lee is a really solid LB though, so it probably won't fictionally kill them.
You make a good point about the triangle numbers. With that said, I just felt the # 1 priority is to get guys who can play in the 34. A healthy mixture of athleticism to along w/ smarts and toughness is a good recipe for success. With that said...on actual draft day in this specific scenario..they may go in a different direction.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the Benn pick. That'd be the worst case scenario for the Lions. I think they'd go in a different direction if the board fell like that and they stayed at 34, but still on the offensive side of the ball. Dude hasn't been picked yet so I'll respect the process. EDIT: Okay, Best just went. This is who I think they'd go with with if the top CBs, DEs and OL were off the board. They need the explosiveness in the backfield. Morris is long in the tooth, Smith has been a disappointment and is coming off of major knee surgery.
Did you have any other ideas (I'm the Lions GM)? The BPAs were DT and I had already taken McCoy in the first... I was really hoping Weatherspoon fell but he didn't... there was no OL worthy of the pick (Ducasse maybe but you already have Cherilus and he isn't much of a pass-pro)... same with LBs... I thought about going CB but I'm guessing there will be some good one left at the top of the 3rd. I read that the Lions FO wanted to give Stafford more weapons and except CJ your WRs suck big time... with that pick at least you have to solid WRs to throw the ball to... plus a CJ + Benn + Pettigrew scenario is pretty frightening for opposing Ds... even more if you go empty backfield and plug in Williams in there.
I expect there to be some mixed feelings on my Jets pick of Gerhart. But here's what I'm looking at: All things considered, I had him as one of the highest rated players left on the board. Above all else, he's another unique talent added to the fold. In the "ground and pound" mentality...you not only need more than one capable runners...you need guys that differ in running style to what you already have on the roster for a "change of pace". Both Gerhart and Greene are punishing runners. Greene is alittle more shifty and quick..while Gerhart is more upright and powerful. Additionally Gerhart offers more as a receiver. Above all else w/ this pick we get 1. Great value 2. Great character and work ethic 3. Additional depth at a key position 4. Another element to a creative offense/punishing running game. In this scenario...Thomas Jones would not be returning the Jets. We'd have a solid rotation of Greene/Gerhart/Washington. Their roles would be as follows: Greene: The real workhorse of the group. 20-25 carries a game. Primarily used on first and second down Washington: The big play slasher type. 10-15 carries a game. Primarily used as 3rd down back along w/ his special teams duties Gerhart: The punishing short yardage late in 4th qtr guy to put the nail in the coffin. Additionally can be paired w/ Greene in certain sub packages as a FB or H-back. The fact is, he presents great value at this pick...and there's no doubt he can help the team right away AND long term. What more can you ask for?
