You don't consider type's offensive systems they played. I don't hate Gilyard, a good mid rd 2 WR, that has potential. Golden Tate is a more polished and NFL ready.
BAHAHAHA to the statement in bold. I guess your opinions are always correct. In 47 career games: Gilyard - 204 catches for 3,004 yards and 25 TDs (in a gimmicky, spread offense) 4 return TDs - that's where his immediate value is. He's a hell of a return man, and he's shown some flashes on kick returns today during the Senior Bowl. In 37 career games: Tate - 157 catches for 2,707 yards and 26 TDs (in a pro-style offense) Being in a pro-style system already gives Golden Tate the edge.
I like Brian Kelly's offense...it's pass happy but it's not Meyers' offense or anything... Golden Tate is nowhere near as polished as Gilyard. The guy's been playing WR for 2-3 years now...He made tons of key drops too...especially against Michigan this year. Congrats to Tate on the Biletnikoff...He should give half of it to Clausen...also he'd have no chance at that if Dez Bryant was playing. Hell, I don't even think Tate is the best WR on his team...he worked in an offense with Clausen, Floyd, and Rudolph (all are high end prospects for their respective positions...IMO)...there's tons of reasons not to buy fully into the Golden Tate first round hype.
Watching the Big ten, as much as i do, I've loved this kid for a while. The way he's playing today was just about an every week occurrence. That's why I laugh when , the uninformed say "can't draft another DE/OLB from the Big Ten". Brandon Graham is the polar-opposite of VG. I love that he played LB in High School.
I hate when people say we can't do anything because of Gholston. We blew one pick, people need to get over it. Rex is evaluating now. Graham seems like the perfect fit for us.
Again, Cinci's offense isn't as gimmicky as you're attempting to paint it as. Kelly's offense holds many principles to what is quickly becoming the new, modern style Pro offense. It's not exactly the Florida offense here...Even then I don't give this the value I "should" because I've seen Gilyard play and seen NFL WR traits rather than gimmicky college offense WR traits Fact is, you guys have seen alot more Tate than Gilyard, and heard alot more about Tate than you have about Gilyard. If you've seen Gilyard play, you'd know what I'm talking about with the guy. I can't believe I'm resorting to the "have you seen them play" argument, but seems like it to me. I just don't buy all this hype on Tate, and I was on Tate before a whole lot of people (at least I feel that way).
Cam Thomas is a guy that the Jets should take a good, hard look at. He's been a very underrated player his entire career.
I watched a ton of Cincinnati games this season, in fact I probably watched more Cincy than Notre Dame...I was always impressed by Mardy Gilyard, he's just not a better receiver prospect than Golden Tate - that's all we're saying. Actually, I saw first hand how dangerous this kid was when he shredded Fresno State's defense. He's the only reason the Bulldogs lost that game. Gilyard has basically solidified himself as a mid-to-late second rounder. Tate should go mid-to-late first.
Thomas might be the best NT prospect in the draft not named Cody or Williams...Cody doesn't look half bad for all the crap he's getting...I'm high on that kid if for no other reason than I think he actually wants it.
You can see BG is a football player. The reason I disliked Gholston....played with his hand down his entire career at OSU. Had no moves in sacking the QB.....just straight bull rush, beating weaker O-line...knew that wasn't going to cut it in the NFL. Stiff hips, terrible lateral movement. No heart and desire. Even his OSU teammates though VG was odd and didn't care. I was sick to my stomach 2 years ago when we drafted him......ruined my weekend.
Yeah, I didn't really follow the draft when we took him. I wanted McFadden or Ryan though. BG clearly has some nice moves in getting to the QB. He has just tossed some LT's around this week, but also showed a really nice spin move.
And I'm saying that I disagree. Tate has alot of upside, but so does Gilyard...who certainly has more upside than the #3 or 4 you're projecting of him. I do not...do not even come close...to buying Tate as a mid-first rounder...I'm barely buying the late first round projection. Value wise, Gilyard will end up a better pick than Tate. I also think he produces more and more often than Tate does in his early career. I don't get this assumption that Tate will just walk in and be a good WR...even a good #3 WR...He only converted to the position 2-3 years ago and his team will have to come up with other, more clever ways to use him while he develops into a WR. IMO, Tate is one of the more overhyped prospects in this draft. Not that he'll be a bad player, but he's not as good as he's being advertised as right now. I project both in the 2nd/3rd round area....probably 2nd for both.
