We are not giving up a starting safety for a LB to be a backup or have another starter back him up. Uncapped year, and the final four rule will screw us and we simply can not give up starters for a backup. If anything, we would be targetting a DL. Current DL corp is pretty old. Hopefully we adress this early in the draft. Hopefully we get a couple of fourth rounders for KC and Rhodes. Tender Eric Smith and hope that Mangini offers a 1st for him
osi had an acl injury. it takes 2 years to get back to original form. he will be a monster again this coming year. douglas jenkins osi pace scott harris thomas revis smith leonhard ??? that is our starting defense next year ellis is a back up
Yeah really, I don't want this dude, but if it happens and Rex thinks he'll work as an OLB then whatever.
HORRIBLE TRADE RUMOR Umenyiora has been HORRIBLE against the run, he's only great in passing situations, we don't need that scrub on our squad, keep Kerry Rhodes
Osi is 6'3" and 260lbs. If you've seen his body type you know that he looks even leaner than that, and if you've seen him on the field you know that his power is FAR from the strength of his game. Osi is a classic RDE in a 4-3 defense. He has a lot of quickness, a great motor, plays with power only via leverage, and is excellent in pursuit within the pocket. If you try to put him in a 3-4 and make him face constant double teams you're going to very quickly have an injured/ineffective and bitchy player on your hands. The Giants benched him for not being effective enough against the run via not being stout at the point of attack. You magnify that with him as a 3-4 DE. If you try him at OLB you need to teach an old dog some new tricks. He was dropped in to coverage a LOT this year (die in a fire, Bill Sheridan) and showed no range to cover even when in position. This completely ignores the fact that he'd probably whine about the move. Finally, do you think Tom Coughlin, who treats the press with all the same tenderness he affords a benign tumor, would be happy with Rhodes tweeting, and entertaining acting opportunities and just generally being a diva? Ryan has FAR more patience for defensive players with character than Coughlin, and he soured on Rhodes. Coughlin would be asking Burress where Pierce hid his Glock if Rhodes played for the Giants.
I don't see a real trade rumour here at all. I think people are starting to lose sight of what a rumour is supposed to be. Just because of some baseless speculation that two players are unhappy at their clubs, doesn't mean that anyone is even considering a trade.
As much as I'm not in love with Rhodes (I was saying the guy was overrated 2 years ago and getting killed for it on this board), I think Osi is one of the most overrated players in the league. He's SUCH an inconsistent pass-rusher. He'll have 3 sacks one game and then go 3 games without a quarterback pressure . . . The only thing you can count on with Osi is that he will suck against the run. No thanks.
7 sacks in a year where he was hurt a lot doesn't sound like under achieving to me ... Only Calvin Pace had more with 8
Here's the big Kicker.... People were quick to say lets get Elvis Dumervil who is 5' 11" and 260lb's with 17 sacks how is he able to thrive and make plays? To me you give the guy a chance to use his speed more and beat double teams with quickness
nice.rhodes for ? trade rumors and we manage to work a pennington thread in here this week.gonna be a great offseason
Keep in mind that in Osi's big sack year, he had 6 sacks in one game against the Eagle's rookie tackle, Winston Justice who was forced into action due to an injury. The guy didn't sniff the starting lineup again until this year.
