Do we keep T-Rich (FB) another year?

How many thread am I making tonight? I'm on fire :p

One last thing I'd like to discuss... do we keep T-Rich as our FB in 2010?

He has already stated he'd like to come back one more year if he can work it out with Tanny.
He also is a GREAT leader on and off the field.

However... he'll be almost 40, his game will be slowing down and he's only more at risk of injuries.
He has never been that much of a pass catching FB (it's always a useful skillset to have) and he isn't running over people as much (still is, but not as much).

I'm not a big ProFootballFoucs.com believer but according to them he's been the 2nd worst FB in the league this year:

    http://profootballfocus.com/by_play...tname=Richardson&surn=Richardson&playerid=110

Since our running game (and thus our FB as well) is so important for us do we re-sign him or do we take a strong look at who's available? Maybe even in the low rounds of the draft?

ATM the only other FB we have on the roster is Jason Davis (who tweets WAAAAY too much) on the PS. He's seen some playing action with the Eagles, Bears and Oakland.

Personally I'd bring T-Rich to TC but tell him explicitly it's not a sure thing he gets his spot back in 2010. However I do hope he can play another year because of the leader he is.

If T-Rich wants to play another season then we definitely should bring him back.

I really don't see anyone on the roster or out there who is a better option at FB. He's one of the few players in the league who's age does not scare me. He's still playing like a beast and since he's a true blocking fullback he has not absorbed the damage someone who has carried the ball more in the past would have. My vote is for T-Rich staying around another year.

    /redundancy.

T rich is the most important piece to our offense. Because he creates the holes in the running game for us to be successful. So yes I hope he comes back

I hope he comes back. No way is he the 2nd to worst FB in the league, the guy is one of the best.

According to that site, Kerry Rhodes is the 2nd best safety in the NFL, and we all know that is not true.

Yes if he wants to come back he will bring Leadership as always.. and if we get another FB then he could groom him and show him the ropes

If he was playing the way he is at his late 30's i doubt one more year would make a big difference.. I think T Rich uses his head where he knows he just got to get his body on a defender for a split second and he doesnt have to pound a guy every time to make a good block

You know that you can use the backspace key on your keyboard to delete the sentences that don't make sense before you submit the post?

    jk

Anyway, I really think that it's important to keep T-rich not only for his blocking skills but also for the veteran presence in the locker room.

im amazed this is actually up for discussion.

    1. he doesn't command a lot of money, i believe he signed a 1 year - $500,000 deal last year.

    2. even though he's 38, he has kept himself in phenomenal shape to be a fullback and last this long, and when do you ever see him on the injury report? we're also constantly in the i-formation. his age isn't relevant.

    3. i don't care if he's ranked the 2nd worst fb by some organization, he's not here to catch passes, he's here because he's good at run blocking. obviously he's doing a good job.

he needs to come back, enough said

That's why I was hoping we could hold on to Southerland from last preseason.

love this guy. as long as he can play let him play. but it wouldnt be a bad idea to spend a draft pick on his future replacement. nothing helps a running game more then a great fullback.. look at what t rich has done for every rb he ran in front of

I still cannot believe we cut Southerland last preseason. Is he on a practice squad? We need to scoop him up. He was my favorite FB

I agree he should return, people give a lot of credit for Favre playing so long and so effectively at his age, but honestly I would give far more props to Tony Richardson who is playing at a age where most players in general have retired. Yet he, unlike Favre, has a physical job where he is basically running head first into on coming defenders, that at least for me is more impressive than Favre

I feel like T-rich would be good for the development of S. Greene

We had the number 1 running game last year, of course you keep T-Rich. If you look at this guys career, he has always been on a team with a great run game. If he doesn't retire you keep him around
