Don't get me wrong, I can watch basketball and I find it really entertaining, but I don't follow it as closely as I follow football. I could care less about basketball recruiting, because the players that matter jump the pros right away. You really can't a have a Senior Bowl type of game in college hoops, because everyone worth a damn is gone by that time.
If the 1 year in college rule wasn't collectively bargained it would have been illegal. I don't mind not having to focus on the intermediary exclusively. Plus, there's a bigger variety of the game out there with an increasing number of players jumping to Europe for a year to actually make money before an NBA career. The scouting process is a lot less organized like the NFL. Some people hate it and some don't mind. I just happen to fall into the latter. Back on topic: after watching some of the southern practices, I really like Eric Norwood. I didn't see too many Gamecocks games this year so this is really the first good look that I got at him. His moves really stood out in the TE pass blocking drills. Great swim move.
Eric's a very smart, instinctive player that's also incredibly versatile. Not to sound like a broken record, but throughout his career, Norwood took snaps at every single position in the front seven: 4-3 - OLB, MLB, DE, DT 3-4 - OLB, ILB, DE 4-2-5 - LB, DE, DT Most of his success came as a linebacker.
Just finished watching the North practice which I taped. Jared Odrick had himself a day. He can't be blocked by anyone on the North roster. He may be practicing his way into the upper half of the 1st round which would suck for us.
The more I continue to look at the players that should be available near the end of the 1st round the more and more I find myself leaning towards Odrick. Most sites I see have him at the bottom of the first early second but from what I see he looks like a top 15 pick to me. Hope he is there though.
Odrick's another guy I think is more a 3rd rounder... 1 - He's a Penn State DT. I hate being prejudice against certain schools at a certain position, but Penn State just has a history there 2 - He doesn't have an elite level talent. 3 - Alot of his value is in his size and experience. Like Dan Willliams, I feel like that gets him overrated as he's more "solid DL" than "exceptionally talented" DL. Williams at least has the possibility of being a rare NT type, Odrick is more in the mold of guys like Jason Hatcher and Kenyon Coleman. I like Odrick...I've tabbed him as a good 3-4 DE prospect for a while...hell, it's entirely possible I buy the hype after he works out...but a good week at the Senior Bowl isn't enough to make him a top 15 prospect.
A good Senior Bowl week alone does not a player a top 15 prospect make. However, when combined that with fact his a D-lineman, with a 6'5", 300 lb frame, great motor, production from a big time college program in a major conference, with the versitility to play in mutiple schemes (i.e., 3 technique DT and possibly DE in a 4-3, 5 DE technique in a 3-4) then I can see it happening especially with a good combine. Let's be clear the fact that I believe he could play himself into the top 15, does not mean I think he has top 15 talent. I just know that NFL GMs often reach on defensive lineman (e.g., Tyson Jackson).
He has to nail the combine for me to buy the hype. He's just another player I liked before they got noticed...now I worry they'll be overrated.
So i just found out its on NFL Network.. is there a good link online .. like through NFL.com that anyone knows about.. or am I better off just gettin a link through atdhe??
just a quick bump, The coverage starts in the next few minutes. anybody know if there will be a stream of the game?
I'm excited to see: Tim Tebow in a pro-style offense Dexter McCluster showing off his versatility Fresno's Lonyae Miller getting a chance to show his abilities
The two DE Brandons...Lang and Graham...are going to have big days. Really like those two as prospects... I want to see how Cody looks.
I've watched Wilson dominate for years. I don't even have to pay attention to know he'll have a great game. I'll be watching Iupati and Graham closely. I hope we get to see both of them play in a number of different positions - Iupati at tackle and guard and Graham at linebacker and end.
