This is the way I'm looking at it. Even if it's on him to request the trade, I think Mike Tannebaum and Rex probably told him that the Jets would have to get either a potential starter or a draft pick that could bring in a potential starter in. Anything short of that, Rhodes is here for at least another year.
Yeah I think that's how it went too... or probably like "we'll see what we can get for you, in the mean time go into a corner and think what you can give to this team mentally". His approach to the game is the EXACT OPPOSITE or Rex's approach... and Rex ain't gonna change... so it's up to him if he wants to stay (which he doesn't 'cause he loves himself so much). He can't say he wants to get traded because he'll Publi Relations will be hurt... and he LIVEs for his image...
Can someone explain to me what "having the right to request a trade" means? So he requests a trade - so what? It's not like they have to do it. If he requests a trade and doesn't get one, what's he going to do? Refuse to play? Okay, then he doesn't get paid. What sort of "right" does he think he has?
Those crickets must be getting annoying. Seriously, I don't see too much coming our way here on a trade. If Rhodes goes we lose a starter. Does anyone know if there is a time limit on the "final eight" rule?
Sir, I'm sorry but I have NOOO idea what you are talking about Ps Love you avatar... you should just add Pollard blowing up the baloon with a needle
If anyone wants to do a photoshop on this one, I'm down. My point is that I don't get the feeling that Rhodes is going to bring in too much in a trade. Tannenbaum and Rex are probably looking for someone who can come in and start - either FA, trade, or draft pick - and I'm not sure that Rhodes commands that value. Maybe Rex can work a sweetheart deal for Dawan Landry for Rhodes with a pick thrown in there.
I would attempt that Photoshop but it'd be too busy for a small avatar. Maybe if the pic was 800x600 or larger
My biggest problem with Rhodes (on top of his character) is his contract. Next year will prob be uncapped and that's great but in 2011,2012 and 2013 he'll make around 6.5/7 mill $$$ a year (salary cap number of course). I want this team to be able to sign Mangold, Harris and Revis to the contracts they deserve... plus Sanchez's cap hit in 2011 is in the 11 mill region and Pace is like 8 mill. I don't want to waste 3/4 mill on a S that plays like a 2/3 mill one (and I'm being generous here) and most of all I don't want it to affect our ability to re-sign players who are actually earning the dough...
Holy fuck. Did you people even WATCH the interview, or are you all playing in one big circlejerk of Kerry hate? He flat out said he wants to be here. He loves Rex, and if you watched him talking, you could see he meant it. He did mention that circumstances could change. Then again, they can change for any guy on this team not named Revis or Sanchez. If the right offer comes over the line to Mr. T, Kerry Rhodes is gone. But so is Kris Jenkins, Leon Washington (even in a sign-and-trade,) D'Brickashaw Ferguson, et al. But don't let me interrupt your little hissy fits boys.
How do you people pretend to know this stuff based on Twitters (tweets?) and Cimini articles? Has anybody here actually met or spoken to Rhodes? He's a pretty decent guy who actually fuckin practices hard and wants to be good at what he wants to do. Jets fans are some cheeky little bastids sometimes man...It was a down year get off of it lol. It's really not that serious, but I guess it can help pass the next 3 months before the draft.
For those people insisting that Rhodes was being honest when he said he wants to stay and Rex likes him... Why then did Ryan not come out and say that in his press conference? That just flies in the face of what Rhodes said yesterday. Ryan is many things, and one of those things is that he is honest. Not much coach speak from him. If he wanted Rhodes to stay, and Rhodes wants to stay, why would Ryan refuse to comment on it? Compare that to what Ryan said about Edwards, and tagging him as high as the FO possibly could? I think people are having a hard time reading the handwriting on the wall here. This is the very first time Ryan hasn't publically supported one of his players in the strongest of terms. If you think that is worth ignoring, I think you are kidding yourself. I don't think it means that there is no chance Rhodes could be back next year, but it sure looks like the odds are heavilly stacked against it.
The funny thing is, he actually studies a lot of film. He's diligent about studying, but don't tell anyone because it screws their arguments. So Rex telling everyone that the conversation he had with Rhodes was private and that he wasn't sharing the details is somehow an implication of Rhodes? And if we're talking honesty, why aren't Rhodes' own words taken at face value? He flat out said he loves Rex, the team wants him, and he wants to be here. Period. Did you watch the interview?
There was nothing made certain about Rhodes' status with the team by that interview. He said all the right things, but nothing more. I'm not going to jump down Rhodes' throat about his play but as far as what he said in the interview, it still seems like he needs Rex to sell him on staying with the team. As far as predictions go, I'm going to take the same assumption with wanting to leave the team that Bill Parcells took with players retiring, "If a player is thinking about retiring, he's already retired." If Kerry Rhodes is thinking about leaving, he's already gone.
How do you pretend to know how much film he studies? I can't guess at it, but I remember reading this season that he stopped doing film sessions with Revis and the rest of the secondary.
Yes I watched the interview... twice. What exactly is an "implication of Rhodes"? Did you mean an indictment? If that's what you meant, then yes, I do. If the conversation with Rhodes went this way: Ryan: We want you here Rhodes: I really want to be here Then why would Ryan refuse to comment on that? Clearly, this indicates that there is much more going on than what Rhodes implied in his interview. Can there at least be some agreement on that? If it were as simple as Rhodes made it sound, why in the world would Ryan refuse to comment? I can't even conjure up a scenario as to why Ryan would refuse to comment if it was as simple as Rhodes said it was. If it smells like shit, I don 't have to eat it to be pretty sure it is indeed, shit. In this case, BS. Ryan's silence speaks louder to me than Rhodes' interview, which was full of contradictions. If you want to read this differently, I think you are heavilly engaged in wishful thinking. I was once a huge Rhodes fan, and he still has all the talent to be the Ed Reed he seems to think he is, but he doesn't play like Reed does. Look, Rhodes even alluded to not being a big hitter. We've seen that on the field. He doesn't much like contact, and would rather make arm tackles than to knock a WR into next week for crossing the middle. He said as much in that interview in so many words. Let me ask this: Did Garcon or Collie, or Clark for that matter look very worried catching all those short passes in the middle of the field? Those recievers, combined with Manning's incredible accuracy are nearly impossible to cover with finesse. Ryan wants then to pay with blood to make catches over the middle. Rhodes doesn't. I think that is at the core of the problem. Ryan wants his safeties to make those big hits. Make those recievers pay dearly for every catch over the middle. Rhodes wants to ball hawk and make arm tackles. I think Ryan told Rhodes, either you play the way I want you to play, or else. Sure, I am conjecturing, but there HAS to be a reason Ryan refused to comment. If you can't see at least that much, you can't see anything.
