My top 5 defensive players by position. Again, some players are interchangable, especially DE/DT and OLB. Wow, another great list, man. As a draft nerd, I'll be referring to these threads often (how have I been missing them the last couple of years? haha).
Pierre-Paul is what like 260-270 right now? I think his best chance to dominate in this league is at 4-3 end. I agree that he can and should play 3-4 OLB, but he has plenty of room to bulk up and play a little bit of 3-4 end here and there. I think he's versatile enough to play in every system, but he's definitely not a true 3-4 end.
Probably the most physically gifted player in this draft, but it doesn't translate to the field. For some reason, not productive intercepting the ball. Seems to think more on the field than react. Mays would have been a Top 12 player if he came out last year.
Watch tape of Kam Chancellor, then add him to your list. Better football player than Taylor Mays. If the Jets are looking for a safety come round 2, I think he'd be a great addition. Not a true center fielder, but good range for his size, great ball skills, and really lays the lumber against both run and pass.
I'm still kind of surprised about how hi some people have Mays, I would have thought Gholston would make people second guess these amazing physical specimens. I will agree Mays is far and beyond physically gifted as a safety than Gholston was as a DE. Still Mays raises the question: How much is his collegiate production because of skill and how much is because of technique. Also I'm not sure of Derrick Morgan as a 3-4 end, he is really a pass rush kind of guy. Thats probably more suitable for a 4-3 team at least drafting him to play DE
Kam Chancellor isn't a top five safety...I don't even know if he's a top ten safety actually. He's a lot like former VT safety Aaron Rouse - tall, pretty athletic safeties that struggle in coverage. He may be a better football player than Mays, but Mays is bigger, stronger, and faster than Chancellor.
I'd love to see Everson Griffen in green and white...but that's not happening. He's the most physically gifted player that I've ever seen.
OHH!!! Ok I see what your saying the astrix denotes someone who could play a 3-4 end, the rest are 4-3 ends got it. My Bad
Really nice list. My top 5s: CB Joe Haden Donovan Warren Brandon Ghee Perrish Cox Kyle Wilson S Eric Berry Earl Thomas Taylor Mays Morgan Burnett Nate Allen 3-4 DE Ndamukong Suh Gerald McCoy Arthur Jones Vince Oghobaase Jared Odrick Honorable mention: Mike Neal NT Dan Williams Terrence Cody Terrell Troup Boo Robinson Cam Thomas Sleeper: Al Woods - For some reason, I think he'll turn into something. I'll just throw him out here as a sleeper. 3-4 OLB 1. Greg Hardy - Might not be so true anymore, but I hold out hope until combine. Really good pick for someone drafts him when he falls on draft day. 2. Brandon Graham 3. Everson Griffen 4. Derrick Morgan 5. Lindsey Witten/Brandon Lang 6: Jerry Hughes - I don't buy him for some reason. Would work out better for the Colts. 3-4 ILB/OLB Rolando McClain Brandon Spikes Daryl Washington Micah Johnson Pat Angerer 4-3 OLB Sean Weatherspoon Sergio Kindle Navorro Bowman AJ Edds Roddrick Muckelroy

You think that Taylor Mays would be a bust in this league because his coverage skills are lacking right? Why, then, is he in your top 5 safeties?
just a quick question here, did you mean to put Pierre-Paul in as the top 3-4 end? My guess is you meant to have him at 4-3 end in addition to the 3-4 OLB projection you have him at. Other than that, it looks good to me!
I dont think Washington translates to an inside linebacker I think he is more suited as a 4-3 linebacker Also I think I would switch Lamar Houston and Brian Price, but I could see why you would put Houston ahead of Price
Thanks for putting the work in on these. Great cheat sheet come draft day. When you come up with these ranks, do you consider Rex's style of 3-4 or the Jets particular needs or are your lists more generic?
The guys over at ESPN are falling in love with Kareem Jackson, saying he could go as high as the teens. Why are they wrong?
