On the subject, the refs did even worse in the NO-MN game. Favre has at least 2 and maybe 3 roughing calls that weren't called. There's gotta be some fines coming from the league office.

The crappy part about this whole mess is even if they did flag that D Bag for a late hit it would have been off set by the phantom holding call. I hope the colts get their asses beat by the Saints. I feel like changing my name to
    eyeh8daponies.

^^^^ yes, but the phantom holding call set us back 10 yards and ended the series.

Ummm...not really. There was a nice 17 yard 1st down pickup to Keller two plays after the 'late hit'.

Not to mention that the late hit would be shown over and over again on all the highlight shows and the Jets would then be labled as a "Dirty" team, which probably would lead to a bunch of touchy calls over the next few years. Unfortunately Sanchez has not made it to that level where a hit like that is going to be published...yet

Yeah we can argue the penalty all day long, but at the end of the day we go that first down and the penalty was essentially moot (just got Sanchez some better numbers on the day).

"You can't see if Mark Sanchez hands the ball off or not," Bullitt explained on the live 'Indy Sports Nation OT' show. "Now what do I look like if I don't hit him and he gets another bomb on us for a touchdown?"

What a load of crap. Notice how he says "You can't see..." That's indicative of a lie. And then he rationalizes it with his next sentence.

Why is Melvin Bullitt posting on this site? Don't you have better things to do like prepare for the Super Bowl? You wouldn't even be the 3rd best safety on the Jets, Melvin.

It's not even a real argument. Just because he can't see whether he does or not doesn't make it legal to hit him if he doesn't have the ball.

Rex found a role for Ghoslton and blew it.

"Look son, i want you to loop way around and then come back in late and take manning out from behind. i know manning will probably be in the huddle by the time you get to him, but give him your best shot"

the thing is though, Melvin isn't lobbying for the no-call. He's lobbying on his decision to hit Sanchez. He really thought Sanchez still had the ball. If the flag was thrown, Melvin would have agreed with the flag after the replay. His quote was essentially admitting guilt, it was not a blatant, intentional late hit. Yes, a penalty was deserved, but it was not called. Don't blame Bullitt for an official not covering his sight zones.

Why the hell do you guys think this guy would commit an intentional 15 yard penalty for a late hit? The Colts just don't do that - they don't lose their cool. They haven't all season. Nobody!

If he was going to admit guilt, he would have admitted guilt and apologized. You're making excuses for the guy. If it wasn't a blatant hit, why would you imply it was the officials fault? Shouldn't you be arguing the non-call was correct? Once Sanchez hands the ball off, and he gets hit on that play late, it's a penalty. PERIOD. Intentional or not.

Edit: and for the record, the outcome of that play on the whole game is minimal. That's not where the anger is coming from. The anger is because there is obvious favoritism and inconsistency when it comes to the rules.

I've never seen Rex madder before. He really is the right coach for NY. Don't the Ryan family have a history of cheap shot?

Buddy Ryan, his father, is famous for his temper and does have that reputation. His sons do not share such an extreme temper. You will not see Rex or Rob punch a fellow coach on the same team. They aren't their dad, they are more laid back than he ever was. It's worth noting that Rex was very strict about this with his treatment of Bart Scott when he took a cheap shot during the Bucs game.

To try to take it out on Manning because of the officials is just stupid. Nobody wants games to get out of control like that. Everybody should know by now anyway, rarely is the guy that throws the first punch penalized, it's the guy that retaliates.

"missing it"? They should have been flagged 2-3 times for illegal hits on sanchez. There's no doubt if we even came close to doing that to peyton we'd have been flagged.

When Mark starts doing lots of commercials and becomes one of the faces of the NFL, then he'll get those calls. Until then, all we can do is our best to protect him cause the Refs will let all but the most smashing hits go unflagged on Sanchez. Mark Sanchez doesn't get the same considerations that a Manning or a Brady or a Brees or a Rivers gets. That's just the way it is.

for everyone who says manning shouldnt have been hit like sanchez was, you obviously have never played a team sport. you are supposed to take pride in your teammates and if the other team takes a cheap shot at one of the most important players on your team then you do the same for pride and to show them your not a push over. its like in hockey when the enforcer comes out to take care of business when the other team takes a shot at your best player. or in baseball one of your guys gets hit by a pitch that seems pretty blatant then you do the same. its all about having pride in your team and thats how you get respect by showing your team an other teams that you wont take that crap. this is coming from a former high school football player turned rugby player so i kind of have no regard for any opponent.

Hmm, it appears that the Indianapolis public school system is failing some of its students.
