In his PC yesterday he said a few times that he had a "personal private conversation" with Kerry, and that it was between them but dictates his future

He said that he had it with him "today, and 8 weeks ago"...

What do you think they said?

I have a feeling it was Kerry probably saying he wants out of new york, but asking Rex not to announce it, or tell anyone until he's actually gone, and in return he plays hard and stops twittering all the time etc...

I really have no idea tho

Rex PC if you wanna watch, it's in the second half of the video:

I remember Rex saying in his initial PC he thought Rhodes could be a Ed Reed type of player. While he's obviously no where near as talented, he did show flashes of two years ago after he took a benching. That being said, I doubt we see him again in a JETS uni.

unfortunately he lived off that rep for a long time without making any serious contributions... this year he was out of position, late to make plays, and more often than not a real soft tackler

Kerry needs to be become more physical, that's his key problem. I think Rex can install that mindset in him over the offseason and into training camp, assuming he remains a Jet.

He probably told him if he shut his mouth, he would shop him quietly. I doubt we get much for "Karrie" Rhodes.

I like the fact that Rex is a man of his word. He had a man to man with Rhodes and apparently they have come to some sort of understanding, whatever it may be.

The problem is, you can't get rid of him without a replacement. If Rex can get a little more out of him, then he stays. It's up to Rhodes to toe the company line or be traded away.

IMO, Rhodes wants to be traded and the Jets will try to honor that request. Let's hope he gets his wish.

I don't really get his angle, by which I mean Rhodes. Rex Ryan is about as permissive as coaches get, all he asks is that you actually give a damn about your performance on the field, and thats something every coach in the NFL is likely to share. It's not like he's going to go somewhere else, work less, and be a bigger star. If anything, he's going to go somewhere else, have a coach who treats his players like children kick him in the ass, and go back to being a decent football player.

So you'd think Rhodes would be fighting to stay here, not fighting to get out. Maybe that's Rex's agreement, maybe Ryan wants Rhodes gone and he's agreeing to let people think it's Rhodes who's forcing the issue.

IMO, trade him to the Colts for Anthony Gonzalez. They've got a ridiculous surplus of talented receivers, and with Bob Sanders chronically injured, they could use a safety who's top priority is avoiding big hits.

At this point it's just a question of how much we can get back for him.
As much sense as that makes I don't see it happening.

    My thoughts, exactly.

    I'm hoping for at least a 3rd rounder. I'll settle for a 4th, though.

    And...Is his replacement an upgrade?

I honestly think Smith filled in just fine, and half the cost.

I don't trust Smith in coverage at all. He vastly improved against the run this year. Rex really understands how to use him.

Kerry isn't asking for a trade, nor was he ever... nor is Rex going to trade him. I'm sure the talk was about keeping up his post benching & post season play. Kerry wants to stay a Jet and Rex wants him here.

you can't honestly think Kerry Rhodes, in a contract year, actually threatened not to play hard, and thus reduce his value and his next contract, and would only play hard if he was allowed to leave? what ground would he have? sure, no problem Kerry, play like shit, reduce your value on the market and go take that smaller contract.

dear God, why did you bless us with such an enjoyable season only to forsaken the Jets forum with such ridiculousness?

His coverage skills are average, but Rhodes looked lost at times in the playoffs. So to me it doesn't make a difference. At least Smith will try and lay some wood on somebody.

I'd give a good giggle if he ended up in some backwater market like Jacksonville...that would put a hitch in his post career git along.

Exactly, conversation probably went like this...we'll meet again at the end of the season... improve your play the last 8 games..play your ass off in the playoffs and we're keeping you, if not, we'll explore other options.

Kerry played, Kerry stays. End of story.

Ok well, you have a right to your opinion, but by most other's accounts (Rex media etc) I believe they feel he did.
