They were great posters when they were here and I told them in week 4 if they made the SB I'd be rooting for them.

As for the guy who says he'd rather say the SB Champion beat us.... um the Saints also beat us. I know what you meant though... the team that kocked us out of the playoffs.

I tend to agree but that definitely doesn't change my rooting interest.

Kinda what I was thinking, but I feel for the Saints fans. That was only their 2nd NFC championship game in their history.

Didnt it take them 20+ years to have a winning season? Gotta root for the Saints, we know pain.....

Same here. I'm so unbelievably depressed, I don't know if I'll even bother watching it. It needs to be April already; I'm hoping the draft will get me going again...

Watching the Saints-Vikes game last night, I have to say that I like the matchup. I've only watched the Saints a couple times this year. But both times I have, they seem to have a frighteningly potent offense and a weak D.

Speaking as somebody whose team has had the same characteristics in years past, I can say with some experience that this can make beating good teams tough. At the end of the day, your defense needs to stop your opponent's offense more than their defense stops your offense.

And their defense doesn't even seem to be at the "average" level.

That said: because the Saints spent so many years as the league's doormat and because of what the city's gone through in the last 4 years, I'm really glad to see them make the Super Bowl.

And I'll be even more glad if they take home the runner-up trophy.

That's another reason I like the Saints: Drew Brees is a Boiler.

I want the Saints to win, but then again I feel like if the Colts win then it validates the Jets a little bit more.

That's the mentality I always have and always root for the AFC

    But,
I gotta root for the Lowly Bag Head SAINTS.
I think all the older fans remember this team I speak of and we can empathize with the ineptitude of the former SAINTS.
    Plus, My Boy Vima!

Boiler? Is that some midwest slang? On urban dictionary I get:
    1. Ugly woman
    2. noun; a large protruding gut on a man.
    3. An ugly woman one would prefer not to service

Are you saying that Drew Brees is an ugly woman?

    ;)

No, he (like me) is a Purdue alum. "Boiler" is short for "Boilermaker".

    ohhhh.

    1. A boilermaker is a beer cocktail consisting of a glass of beer and a shot of whiskey, tequila, or vodka.

    2. A boilermaker is a trained craftsman who produces steel fabrications from plates and sections.

Rooting for the Saints is a no-brainer.

Plus it'll be hilarious to see Indy implode if they lose. The point of resting their starters was to win the Super Bowl. If they fail, all fat pasty hell will break loose.

I thought a boilermaker was when you drop one in a hot tub...

    Now you're cookin'.

Purdue's mascot was derived from the latter definition -- and the university's role as Indiana's "A&M" (Agricultural and Mechanical) school.

While it's still an Ag and Mechanical school, heavy into engineering disciplines, I'd say the former definition is probably more accurately descriptive.

I don't think that would happen, personally.

The reason so many Colts fans were haunted by the decision was because of our experience a few years ago (2005?) when we got to 13-0, lost to the Chargers, and then sat the starters the next two games.

Because we had a bye, our starters took a month off from competitive play. The Steelers were a wild-card team that year that we had beaten handily in the regular season. And we were flat out atrocious in the first half of that game. Out of sync, making the dumb mistakes you typically see in Week 1, etc.

The second half, we were much better. But it wasn't enough to overcome the hole we'd gotten in. And the Steelers went on to win the SB.

So, the concern among Colts fans was primarily what the time off would do in the Ravens game.

It's nice to know, though, that your preferences derive from whatever would make other people seethe the most. That's twisted, man.

If I didn't have a dog in this hunt, I'm sure I'd be rooting for the Saints -- but only because of that franchise's history and what the city's gone through in recent years.

I said I was rooting for the Saints anyway. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
