The Addai runs came from the fact that we had to respect your QB so much that we couldn't play to stop the run. When you have the best QB in the game and average at best rushing attack that happens. Had the Jets been able to slow Manning down I have doubts Addai would have had as a good of a day as he had.
Well I suppose we are lucky that they changed the rules for us then. Rules have changed multiple times since the 60's. You have to adapt. The rules are the same for your team, don't forget that. It's just too bad Greene went out. That 4 yards a carry was going to take the game over. Strickland too. He would have shut us down... oh wait. He is an ex colt who couldn't make it. One team's trash is another's treasure I suppose.
You're right, I will not acknowledge something I didn't see. A couple of decent runs to start the second half isn't indicative of what is going to happen. Here's why....He hadn't done much up to that point and Jones didn't either. Both were running behind the best rushing o-line in the league. And don't dismiss Jones, he didn't gain 1,400+ yards by being a slouch.
Maybe so. I certainly won't dispute that an productive ground game begins with an effective offensive line. Many NFL observers think the Jets have a first-class offensive line -- and I'm no position to disagree. The point I was responding to was somebody saying that Jones sucks and Greene is the key to the running game. No Greene, no ground game. Well, I'm pretty sure that the O-line didn't join Greene on the sidelines. And, moreover, the later it gets in a game, the more that the trailing team has to take to the air anyway. The Jets most likely weren't going to mount a comeback pounding out 4 YPC on the ground....not when you're two scores down and have somebody like Manning on the other side of the ball, anyway.
That's exactly what makes the Colts offense so dangerous. No one ever claimed the Colts were a rushing team, but what we have said, is that they could run the ball when they needed to. That means running enough to keep the defense from focusing in on one aspect of the offense. Addai made more than one guy whiff yesterday on his way to some decent runs.
Absolutely. I am just saying what I think would have happened. I don't have a crystal ball though. None of that matters, it's all hypothetical. The Colts won, no excuses. They were the better team, which I have said on more than one occasion. But I think Greene's injury was significant, whether that would have translated to a Jets win, I have no idea.
I agree with this, BTW. I was kind of kidding when I pointed out (accurately, BTW) that we were last in the league in rushing yardage. We can run the ball successfully when and if we need to. It all depends on what the defense is doing. Thing is, usually when defenses try to make us beat them on the ground, Peyton will just chew up yardage with slants and other kinds of timing patterns that are just as effective at exploiting those defenses.
Just curious....Why do you think Green going out made such a difference when you have Jones? He's a stud himself and they both run behind the same line.
Maybe poor wording on my part because Addai is not a last in the league RB nor is Brown. I think you separate those guys and put them on average teams and both are 1000 yard rushers.
But us Jet fans did see it, we saw in every game Greene has played. We use Jones to wear down a defense and then Greene comes in and picks up. He did to San Diego the week before, the Bengals the week before that. It's not my fault you didn't see enough of this guy to understand how the Jets offense works.
I was being a poor sport? Go back and read the thread, everyone of my posts were in response to Indy fans feeling inclined to talk smack, troll, gloat whatever you want to call it. Here is the latest example. I have and am engaging with Indy fans that aren't acting like assholes, the others I call out. Don't like it, sorry. I haven't made excuses why we lost. Show me one post were I said the Colts didn't deserve to win. They are a great team and the better team yesterday, no excuses. But that doesn't discount the fact that Bullitt's hit was a cheapshot. Sanchez was long out of the play, so if it wasn't a cheapshot Bullitt is either blind or dumb. I never said Greene being in the would have won it for the Jets. But it was more siginificant to why the Jets O couldn't produce in the second half than you may want to admit.
Well, Addai's been a 1000 yard rusher for us before. Twice, in fact -- before he was injured. And he's always shared RB duties with somebody else. He wasn't far from 1000 yards this season. I don't have a great feel for Brown yet. He's a rookie and missed a lot of time this season due to injury. I think he's got really good potential to fit well into our system, though. I was being a bit facetious when I said what I said. We are last in the league in rushing offense, it's true. But we haven't lost a lot of sleep over it.
Well, when I say that I don't think it would've had an impact on the outcome, I'm not saying anything about Greene's capabilities. I just think that, by that point in time, the Jets were going to have to start airing it out more no matter who was behind Sanchez, which gives Manning more touches, which.... The key wasn't so much what the Jets were or weren't able to do with the ball, but that our offense had found its rhythm against the Jets D. Had Peyton & Co. never been able to get in sync (and that does happen, BTW), then what was going on with the Jets O becomes more determinative.
Greene's first 4 runs netted 4 yards; his last 6 netted 37. This is exactly the pattern from the previous playoff game - against San Diego his first 3 carries netted 2 yards; his next 20 netted 126. Jones has worn down terribly in the last month. In the first 15 games of the season he had 304 carries for 1324 yards, an average of 4.4 yards per carry. In the last 4 games he had 72 carries for 195 yards, an average of 2.7 yards per carry. At the time Greene went out the Jets were leading 17-13. To claim that losing him had no effect on the game's outcome is just silly.
I understood that. I saw the Chargers game and was lectured on this countless times last week discussing the upcoming game. I guess it's on on your prespective, because the Jets were held to under 100 total. I will watch the game when it's replayed and try to be as objective as possible, but I just didn't see Green or Jones getting much done in the second half. Unlike the Chargers or some other teams, the Colts rotate their D line a lot to keep them fresh. Even if Green had two or three decent runs to start the second half, I have to believe the Colts would have made some additional adjustments if they would have marched down the field and scored.
Ok, I said this in another post. But I doubt you have watched every Jets game. But most Jets fans agree has lost a step as the season went on, he isn't exactly young. He didn't have the same burst as he did in the beginning of the season. He sort of hits the line and falls down. There is alot of speculation is going to be cut this offseason. Second Greene turns it on in the second half of games. He is the type of runner that just pounds you until you get tired and give up yards. He hits his stride as the game goes on. Greene will pound you all day with 4-7 yards runs and then he bursts through with a 40+ yard run. Just the type of runner he is, big play potential. Jones doesn't have that ability for a huge game changing run. Greene has the ability to plow through defenders and extend a run, Jones isn't that type of runner. Third Greene was the hot runner, as can be seen from the first 2 playoff games. And as you know, you always go with the hot runner. I still think the Jets would have lost. But Greene leaving the game was much more beneficial to the Colts, than some of their fans want to admit.
Jones has been running on bad wheels for the last couple of weeks. For anyone who didn't notice he was running with two protective knee braces on yesterday. Probably shouldn't have even been out there. Greene has come into his own in the last third of the season and Jones is not nearly as effective as Greene at moving the chains when fully he's healthy, let alone now. Not making excuses for him.....but that's just a fact.
