Does anyone else think there's going to be a record number of draft pick trades during the upcoming draft? With the new (controversial) format of spreading the rounds out over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the off time in between the rounds should really increase trading up or trading back in rounds. If anything, this should help the Jets, because if a few key guys that we target aren't there at 29, we should (in my humble opinion) trade back to the middle of the second round and pick up a few more picks for depth and role players. Anyone else with me? P.S. I look forward to spending more time in here during the offseason, should be fun. :jets:
I think Charlie Casserly mentioned this yesterday on CBS. It makes a lot of sense - GMs will have a lot more time to negotiate deals.
Hopefully they can trade down and get some additional picks. Once your roster is competitive on a year by year basis then you can trade down since your not drafting for need. I wouldn't mind trading out of both of their picks in the 1st and 2nd round round getting additional picks in the first round rounds and maybe another pick next year.
I hate the new schedule if anything should be 1st round friday night 2-4 saturday 5-7 sunday. But on topic i agree I think there will be a lot of movement especially with players included in movement because of the uncapped season.
^And why do u want rounds 5,6, and 7 ONLY to be done on the last day and rounds 2,3 and 4 on the second day? Rounds 2, 3 and 4 are much more valuable and require much much more time than 5,6 and 7. Hence, only two rounds on the second day.
I'm not thrilled with a drawn out 3 day event.....it sucks. I loved having the draft start at Noon on Sat, and go thru 3 rounds and complete 4-7 on Sunday. It's all about ratings and money, money, money!! The draft was one the best ratings weekends for ESPN/NFL network all year. We'll see if the new primetime days work. I believe Thu night is going to be a monster, Fri and Sat is going to be a disappointment.
this. i hate it!! the draft party used to be one big drinking/eating extravaganza.....and Goodell ruined it singlehandedly with his fucking prime time schedule changes.....asshat.
Wow!!! You are worried about your drinking and eating, rather than the team trying to make a sensible trade?
yeah...I enjoyed the previous draft format much more....which took place on a Sat/Sun.....The draft is like a 2nd xmas to me and my buddies....we make a day of it...BBQ, booze, snacks...while watching the picks. Now it's all shot to hell. I'm not going to embrace the new format because you THINK the Jets might make a trade.
^Fair enough. Don't embrace it. You'll have to put up with it though. We barely made the trade for Sanchez last yr. Hopefully we wouldn't be in that last second scenario again. It helps the entire NFL overall deciding compensation for picks/players.
If time is the concern do 1 round a day they are just doing this to milk it as much as they can. 4-7 on one day is to much 3 rounds seemed to work quite nicely last year.
Yea I agree me and my friends regardless of team loyalties would get together and have a good 2 day get together with burgers wings beer etc..
The trade possibilities should also be magnified by the restrictions on free agency and the fact that there won't be any negative cap implications for trading players. We could see more players for picks trades this year than in the past ten years put together.
Unless Iupati is there I'd love to trade down to the mid-2nd... I think the new format of the draft will influence the trades a lot. Every round with a whole free day in front becomes very important (2nd and 4th) and I really hope we get to acquire some picks in that area. My dream trades are: our 1st for a high (top 8) second and a third (if it's a high one I'm willing to give them our 6th rounder). our 5th this year and our 5th next year for a mid-high 4th. This way we'd have: high 2nd (CB) low 2nd (DE) mid-high 3rd (WR/OL) mid-high 4th (OL/WR) low 7th BPA maye an OLB prospect? Dream draft
