I've always thought Newsome is one of the best GMs in the league. He addresses all of the right areas, he does it timely, and the Ravens usually have solid depth. He just doesn't strike me as the panicky reactive type who'll make an impulsive decision on something like Reed's retirement. I assume he's been planning on Reed and Lewis retiring, and when that happens - which it may - this Offseason, then he'll be ready to find a replacement if that player isn't already on the team. Again, nobody makes flawless decisions, so it's definitely possible for him to get trigger-happy on a move like trading for Rhodes; just me, personally, I don't see it happening because of his track record.
you're right...and Newsome is a great football exec. I was just hoping...............maybe...............he's stupid enough to trade for rhodes. :smile:

Well a lot of people could be looking at Rhodes as a solid player that needs a change of scenery, when we traded for Edwards so many people would come up to me with the same two statements, "Good job picking up Edwards he needed to get the fuck out of Cleveland, he will be good for you guys" and "You guys made a mistake, the guy is terrible, he had one good year, he drops the ball, he has a bad attitude this could hurt your team" well things turned out well for us. Teams will definitely look at Rhodes with a mentality that he needs a change of scenery and he will blossom, we could get something good for him, but we have to really be smart about it.
He certainly has some value--I'd be shocked if we couldn't get a 3rd for him, and who knows, maybe we could get a 2nd if someone's really desperate. Dude's a former Pro-Bowl caliber safety who's still young--I'm sure there is some egotistical coach who thinks he could coax him back to his old form. Anything above a 4th, and I pull the trigger immediately.
The difference between Edwards and Cleveland and Rhodes and Baltimore are totally different. Edwards can now settle in and build chemistry with Sanchez since he's our starting QB. He didn't have that luxury in Cleveland. Going from Cleveland to New York City is also something many would consider a better move (especially since Edwards wanted to begin marketing himself like an elite WR after his breakout year). Assuming that the Ravens would trade for a player that struggled in our system, which is virtually the same system they've had for years, doesn't make much sense. The fact that he's going to replace Ed Reed alone will be a pretty tall order for Rhodes to handle. I def don't see these 'chances of scenary' as being the same thing.

Agreed. A change of scenery from a Cleveland team that was on the brink of shambles is understandable and much needed. But how can Rhodes want/need a change of scenery from NY, from Rex Ryan, from a team that just reached the AFCC and looks like it has only scratched the surface of its potential? What has happened to Rhodes that he needs a change of scenery? And will a change of scenery suddenly make him a tougher player who puts his ego aside? Perhaps. But I just don't see that in him.
are you thinking osi at olb? i just don't see that being a good fit because didn't he get benched at one point this year because he sucks at stopping the run? we don't have room on the roster at this point for just a third down pass rush specialist who is worthless on 1st and 2nd down.
Trade him as this is a very deep upcoming safety class (i.e., Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, Taylor Mays, Chad Jones, Nate Allen, Morgan Burnett, Darrell Stuckey, Reshad Jones, Major Wright, Robert Johnson, Myron Lewis, Barry Church...etc.)
I didn't mean just Baltimore I meant any team with a safety issue who may view the situation this way, Rhodes could very well not really want to be here. When Edwards first came here people on the board were happy and nervous, they were torn not knowing what to expect, near the end of the season, people were hating him, now most love him, and honestly he hasn't been as elite as we'd like, but time will tell and I'm expecting great things with him.
I have been one of his biggest critic and I wouldn't say I'm in love with him. He still makes me very nervous. That catch he made yesterday was a play a true WR should've made. It didn't need me to say a short prayer while the ball hung in the air for him to catch it. But I get what you're saying. I too hope there's some team out there desperate enough to give us a maybe a 2nd or 3rd for him.
My main question is, why would Rhodes (or any player for that matter) not want to be here on this contender right now? The future looks bright and it's a huge market. Who would want to leave that?
I personally would prefer to keep, Rhodes. I highly doubt he will be here next year though, you just get that vibe from Rex, that he just isn't a very good fit in Rex's defense. You hear some of those pressers from, Rex. You can just tell that he is sick of, Rhodes.
Might be a deep Safety class, but we don't have a deep staple of draft picks.... Unless Eric fancies Sherry enough to trade a 2nd rounder for him, we are probably stuck with him.
I would consider trading Rhodes but only for at worst a 3rd round pick. I would prefer a 2nd round pick for a safety in his prime under contract. I do not think that Rhodes will ever fit into what Ryan/Pettine are building on defense. They need 11 guys that play physical football on every play. That means that your always looking to hit someone hard and you better tackle with proper form every time. Rhodes only cares about himself and his ego. You can see that he's not a team player. He makes the strip sack on Rivers and instead of going for the ball he gets up to flex and show off for the camera. IMO he may be here for another year since it will be difficult to replace him with the free agency rules, but down the road Rex will get rid of him.
cut his ass to free up some money for a good FA pick up. One guy that jumps to mind is zibakowski another safety Rex would know from Bal. He was one of the toughest SOBs I ever saw when he played at ND. He may not be as talented as Rhodes, but he plays Rex Ryan football, and we can get him a lot cheaper than Rhodes.
