I think to view a passrushing OLB as anything but one of the major needs is a pretty bad mistake. The Jets are lucky to finally have a comfort level with their two starters, but BT is really maxed out at that solid level of play and isn't getting any younger. The Jets biggest weakness on the defensive side of the ball seems to be the inability to get pressure off the edge without bringing up defensive backs. I love Calvin, but he's not that type of outside linebacker, though he'd thrive across from one.

The Jets ability to create pocket pressure at times is incredible, but what a passrusher at OLB would give us is that any play could be a big play option. Some teams will see that DB blitz and have no idea what to do, other teams will be able to adjust and find those receivers matched up underneath with Bryan Thomas. I'm not talking about bringing in an instant starter here, or even a necessarily early pick with all the talent in this draft, but finding one quality prospect should be a priority.

I fell that with the way this defense is progressing, getting a mid round guy with big potential would be as beneficial in 2010 as grabbing one in the first round or so. I wish I could stress the sheer BOUNTY of passrushers this draft has. It's ridiculous, they can grab a kid in the 5th round that could get 6-7 sacks as a rookie in spot duty, and I mean that.

I agree, a true pass rushing OLB would be such a luxury, we need to find our own Terrell Suggs.

If Gholston turned out to what he was supposed to be, our defense would be insane.

    Offense early defense late.
    In no paarticular order:
    WR
    DL
    OL
    Blocking TE
CB (especially if Lito is let go, big priority)
OLB (if we somehow cut Gholston loose)

Biggest need is someone who can rush the passer from the front seven, so they don't have to blitz from the secondary as much. I'd also love to see a burner at WR, assuming they bring back Edwards.

You realize in rex rtyans defense, they are always goign to blitz just as much as they do now. Its not the lack of ability of our front 7, its the scheme. Send one more blitzer than they have blockers and play lots of man to man.

I truly believe the only reason we do this, is because Rex knows we would never get pressure on the QB otherwise. If we had the proper personel on the front 7, I think we could start blitzing LB's effectively, and generating the same amount of pressure that we do now with bringing extra guys. I don't think this is an ideal scheme for any coach, sure it is a good change of pace scheme, but everytime you blitz? If they get that OLB pure pass rusher, I think the scheme of this defensive changes dramatically, in a good way.

I honestly don't think Danny Woodhead is anything more than a practice team player. I wouldn't put my eggs in his basket looking for a slot receiver.

    New Free Agent Rules?

Just wondering if somebody can confirm what exactly the new rules are for the Jets being a final four team. I have heard so many different things regarding the final 8, 4, and 2 that I have no clue what we are allowed to do. My understanding was that 5-8 can sign one player over around 4.9 million and then any number of players under that. One article I read stated that final four teams can sign NO UFA except for players they lose at less than or equal value and ZERO players above that 4.9 million mark. This whole thing seems really complex to me...Do bonuses go into account? RFA? I keep seeing posts about guys the Jets should sign in the offseason so then they can draft somebody else but to me understanding we can't sign much...

I agree. Blitzing is a part of Ryan's repertoire, but it is not totally mandatory. The less guys you can use in the front to create pressure means you have more people who can cover the secondary. A pass rushing OLB is mandatory if the Jets expect to put some consistent pressure on the QB.

Good information and I agree with most of it. I think CB will be a bigger need though because the writing on the wall is that Lito is gone.

I like drafting the best available DL in the 1st round (if there are good ones available at the time). I don't think it matters if it is a DE or NT. Remember Balt drafted Ngata as a NT at 340 lbs and he plays DE for them. Just get the best DL and get some youth on that DL.

In the 2nd I would take a WR, CB or OT. I don't think you need to take a WR that has to be a slot guy because you can always put J-Co in the slot on 3rd downs (the guy excels at everything asked of him and remember he got his start in the slot learning from Chrebet).

I would rather get a savvy, experienced corner on the market but if that does not happen a CB could be an option in the 2nd.

OT too for the reasons you mentioned above but you could get a diamond in the rough in the 5th too.

I agree on Safety. If you trade Rhodes, use the pick you get from him to replace him.
