The cover of this week's SI: http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...261356451366_14553116366_3815049_292999_n.jpg
I could live without those annoying little pictures. I'll still be sure to pick up the next issue of "ports Illustrated"
I hate this. I want to be on the cover the week after the Super Bowl, not three weeks before it. I said earlier in the Letterman Top 10 thread - any press is good press. I should have put an * with that, as in *any press is good press except Peter King's press. Peter King hates the Jets. LOVES Brady too much to ever embrace Gang Green. And where's his manlove for Favre cover story 3 weeks before the Super Bowl? And WHEN did the SI jinx get broken? Certainly not in '98 when we were "Jet Propelled" on the cover with Meshawn heading to Denver...in the last AFC Championship we were in.
Not too long ago. Either the Sox or the Giants did it. Maybe the Steelers. It isn't the automatic it used to be.
Rex Ryan on the cover of Madden would not even hurt this team. Its all about attitude and Rex has it all. He overcame all of the crap that happened to this team in the 09 season and we are in the title game. The future is bright. Next Sunday is bright.
The Madden curse actually has data to support it, although it's obviously still hard for me to believe it. The SI cover jinx is complete nonsense - there is absolutely no data to support it (they had an article a few years ago in the magazine that talked all about it, did a reasonable job of analyzing the data from thousands of covers, and correctly identified it as regression to the mean). The people who have been on the cover more than anyone are Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammed Ali, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, etc. Somehow it didn't seem to hurt them too badly. And before anyone brings this post back if (God forbid) the Jets should lose next Sunday, how about if we all just remember that the Colts are the #1 seed playing at home in the game, okay? If they win, it's unlikely that it took divine intervention.
