I did a bit of Wiki research to see historically what you could get for a low 1st in the draft and this is what I came up with:

    2009:
Nothing relevant (the 28th pick was traded for the Jason Peters deal)

    2008:
    Pick n?30 - pick n?36 + pick n?113 (mid-high 4th round)

    2007:
    Pick n?28 - pick n?110 (mid-high 4th) + 1st rd pick in 2008

    Pick n?33 - pick n?38 + pick n?105 (high 4th)

    2006:
No specific info on the trades but that year both the n?29 pick (We select Mangold) and n?32 pick (Giants select Kiwanuka) were traded...

Seems like our most likely scenario is us getting a high second rounder and a fourth rounder. I'd be cool with that.

If somehow we could pull off getting a 4th rounder this year and a 1st rounder next year I'll be through the roof :) (edit: meeh)

The 4th and 1st the following year is what stuck out to me as well. But I figure there's gotta be some kind of Can't-Miss-Prospect on the board at that time that teams are fighting to acquire. Someone we don't necessarily need on the team, like a QB, TE (Keller-clone), LT, C, or MLB. Every other position we can pretty much use for depth. But yes, I'd take that trade as well.

Why would you want a 1st rounder next year? This is the most talented draft probably ever.

Yeah I know... probably I wouldn't be sooo high about it (re-thought about it) but it all depends on who is offering that first rounder!

I would want a 1st rounder the following year because it would give us flexibility. We're obviously looking for depth in this upcoming Draft, but 2 years from now we could be looking to find replacements for skill positions like a WR, CB, HB, or a premier OLB. I just like having that option. Rolling into this Draft with 4-5 picks isn't as terrible as it sounds and having those two 1st rounders next year would be a pretty sweet scenario.

Isn't next year's draft is supposed to be very deep too? Maybe not as much as this one, but I'm not sure I'd pass up on a 2011 1st rounder, especially from a not-so-great team.

Yes next year's draft looks like it will be very deep as well, but selfishly, as a fan, I like watching the our team draft players.

But if it is a trade with a bad team and is for the better of our team, I could suck it up.

Picking between 29-32, we're virtually guaranteed to have a higher pick next year, if we trade. And if we can net another mid round pick this year? That's good value.

Of course, it all depends on who is available and who wants the pick.

Next year's draft class will be on par with this year. Two very strong years back to back. . I was slightly disappointed with so many players staying in school this year, a few made a big mistake. The 2011 WR group going out and declaring is going to be phenomenal.

It's never a good idea to mortgage future draft picks.....which we didn't have to do in the Sanchez trade. If we can pick up a 2011 draft pick, trading down, I'm all for it. Remember the Redskin Trade in Rd 2????...it helped us draft Revis/Harris the next year, since we had 2 2nd rd picks.

What a ridiculous statement. There's lots of amazing drafts, and how can you compare the current draft to ones more than even 10 years ago, it's impossible.

At certain positions, this is probably the deepest draft in the last ten years. So, it's not that ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind trading out of the first round if we ended up with someone's 2011 first round pick. In 2011, we could see what's looking like the best receiver class ever, so having multiple first rounders will be very valuable if the Jets choose to move up for AJ Green, Michael Floyd, or Julio Jones.
