So I was at the coffee shop yesterday morning basking in the afterglow of Sunday's victory when my friend Jay, who is a huge Pats fan from Mass, happened to walk in. When he saw me sitting there in my Jets sweatshirt and hat smiling at him it was awesome to see the pain slowly register across his face. He gave me a half-hearted congrats on the win and then quickly tried to change the subject before grabbing his coffee and getting out of there as fast as possible before I could rub it in his face anymore. I realize that the Pats are in the rearview mirror right now, but I still can't help fully enjoying the pain that it causes Pats fans to see the Jets defying the odds and headed to the AFCCG while their season ended in a nosedive two weeks ago. I LOVE IT!! Anyone else enjoy rubbing our success in a Pats fan's face this week?
it don't have any patriot fan friends but i have been enjoying rubbing it in my dolphins friends face.... cuz he did was talk shit all season how they destroyed us twice.
i haven't had the opportunity yet... yet. tonight in my pool league i'll be sure to talk to "my friend the pats fan". to be fair though, this guy is a class act and was disgusted when the spygate shit came out, and has been very impressed with the Jets the past few weeks. regardless, he's a pats fan and deserves some slack.
It's not like the Dolphins. If the Jets don't win in a given year the only team I really care about not winning is the Dolphins. That's because I was 10 when I really started rooting for the Jets and Don Shula just owned that era in the AFC East. The Patriots have been close to as bad as the Jets have since the merger, and I still don't think of them as a better franchise than the Jets although they marginally are at this point because of the run up in their stock since 2001. The Dolphins, on the other hand, were the team to beat in the AFC East from 1972 to 2000. Gotta keep em down now until they forget that completely. I totally understand, BTW, why the younger guys, especially the guys who have only been rooting for the Jets since 2000 or so would hate the Pats with a passion. It's the bully who beats you up in the schoolyard who you remember all your life, everybody else just gets compared to him.
The support is appreciated, but to be honest, if the situation was reversed there is no chance I would be pulling for the Pats. Just sayin
That's awesome! I have a relative who is a Pats fan (more like on the wagon) and he gave me hell for years. I named my youngest son Colt, and he had the nerve to call him Pat one day. Thanks for that story. I needed it. Funny side note to that - When my son Colt was born, my best friend looked at him and said, "You better be glad you're dad is not a Packers fan". hmy:
I'm a new era Jets fan, so I'm with you on enjoying the Pats fans pain. Actually, my stepfather is a Pats fan, and he was watching the game with great anticipation on Sunday with me, hoping for a Jets loss. You can't understand how invigorating it was to watch him walk to bed with his head hung, and a look of sheer dissapoint across his face. Probably one of my greatest football fan moments to date. Especially since he had told me earlier in the day that the Jets luck was over on Sunday, because I kept reminding him how we've made it further than the Pats have this season.
As much as I hate the Pats those cheating bastards still have 3 SB Victories last decade, in order to really destroy the Pats and that evil empire we have to win at least 1, and maybe some divisional crowns can help, I think the Jets are well on their way to that barring anything goes wrong *knocks on wood* This would be the perfect movie with the whole fucked up History of the Jets and Pats, ala Star Wars hahahh
I don't have any fans that are Patriot fans.. Only Jets and Giant fans. The Giant fans were talking shit when we lost to the Saints. They still talkd when they lost to the Saints, but closed their mouths completely after the Thanksgiving Broncos apocalypse
Wodhead makes the perfect ewok, and Shaun basically has his hand cutoff for this "return of the Jedi" We are the original underdog good guys.
Let's see.. I work in Mass with a bunch of arrogant, IGNORANT pats-fans... So the answer is HELL FUCKING YEAH I HAVE!!! FOR WEEKS NOW..
Colts fans are enjoying their pain too. This has to be a nightmare of an AFCCG matchup for any Pats fan.
We really are, what have we done to cheat the NFL, tampering BS "charges" here and there but the cases always close Mark Sanchez will be Luke Skywalker and Darth Sidious will obviously be Bill Bellicheat, I guess Tom Brady is Darth Vader Haha but Woodhead would make an excellent Ewok I could insert a mean fat joke for our man Rex Ryan but it's just not worth it ...
Lesser of 2 evils my friend. I endured alot of suffering as a Pats fan. I understand how the spoiled band wagon fans give us a bad rep, but the Jets have not won shit in a long time, and I still remember how that feels.
My history w/ Pat fans is well documented on this board. I'm keeping my mouth shut for now..but if we can pull through opn Sunday and then again in about 2 weeks...It's payback time.
Exactly. If we get knocked out Sunday then realistically this season was insignificant compared to the Pats achievements. They're not really enjoying this but they'll be laughing the second something goes against us, bank on it. Only way for the Jets to truly register the pain is to win the big game.
I'm kind of in the same boat (keeping my mouth shut). I think part of it is that I'm still in shock and I haven't fully come to terms w/ the fact that the Jets are playing in the AFC Championship while the Pats were defeated handily in the first round. Also, while we have a LOT to feel proud of about this year's team you have to admit the Jets haven't accomplished that much yet in the grand scheme of things. Given our history in AFC Championship games, I can't help but fear that the other shoe is about to drop.
I agree. Still, it's not only where the Pats and Jets are respectively at this point of the season. I am not prepared to write them off completely, but the Jets seem pretty well set on an upward arc. The Pats? Not so much. In fact they could be in big trouble. Let's hope so!
