WOW. Ok a few thoughts. 1) UNLESS there was some SERIOUS footage edited out of the video EG the Jet's fan flashed people, puked on someone, was cussing people out, or hit someone, there is no cause for the Police to act so aggressively. 2) When I am in an opposing teams stadium, I do NOT stand and root and cheer and dance, and TAUNT. It is foolish to do that. If you taunt at the opposing teams stadium, you are being foolish, and should not be surpised to be kicked out. WHY? Because you will cause a riot. I have seen MANY Yankees fans kicked out of Fenway for being attacked by Sox fans, I have seen MANY Sox fans kicked out of Yankee stadium, for effectively being attacked by Yankees fans. It is far easier to remove one person, than 100. Is it right? No BUT it MAY be necessary to prevent a riot. In any case, the amount of force used was excessive, and ridiculous. Also, why arrest the fan? Just escort him out, or tell him chill, shut up, and quietly root for your team.
Yeah guys, know that you've got support from fans around the league. This is disgusting behavior by the police and you definitely need to stick up for your own. We at the saintsreport.com are appalled at this. We've seen our fair share of police brutality in New Orleans.

Awesome that Saints fans Colts fans are as shocked by this as we are. It goes to show that if you are in a position with power you better be careful that you don't cross the line because you don't know who is recording what. I still find it funny that the one Charger fan who has posted is still bitter about his taste of STFU!!!!
Wow. Unless something was edited out of that video, that is a complete abuse of power by the cops. That guy deserves his money back for his ticket, and an apology from the SDPD. Really an outrageous incident.

Good job!!!! The economy in San Diego sucks, big time, right now & the tourism folks do not want this kind of press. When folks are dropping a lot of $$$ in your city, it behooves the police to not treat them like garbage.
Arnold would hate this kind of press, as well. He wants every tourism penny he can get, coming into that bankrupt state.
These cops have really fucked up if that's the case. Like I said if you are in a position of authority you better not abuse it because you never know who is recording what. I would imagine all this negative publicity is giving the city of San Diego fits. It's likely a day off for city officials (at least I would hope so) but the mayor is not going to be a happy guy when he shows up tomorrow to a flood of calls and emails from outraged football fans across the country. The other angle is the local media is likely going to eat this up. Negativity sells and those guys should jump all over this.
i'm a pretty fit guy and i've been in my share of tussles, but if 5 cops go to slap the cuffs on me, i'm not fighting. i'll say "wait, you got the wrong guy" or "you're making a mistake," but not fight. i'm not gonna win. they're not gonna say "whoa, time out, fellas; maybe this is the wrong guy?!" what they'll do is use the force necessary to overcome your resistance (textbook), including pepper, taser, batons... there's no such thing as justified resistance to an arrest.
I hate to see stuff like this. Now the guy has to go to court to fight whatever he was charged with (cheering like a fan at a sporting event maybe..?). At any rate, it ties up the court system and is a waste of resources. Reminds me of a BS charge I was hit with in college - "Discharging a waterballoon launcher within city limits." The judge laughed at the charge and threw it out.

Disagree. Getting attacked like that, a natural reaction would be to fight back or resist. I've seen before in the media some people defending cops when they've been abusive because of the adrenaline flowing in the given situation. Shouldn't the same consideration be given to a fan who is cheering for his team and then gets attacked?
IANAL, however . . . It's common law that has been held up in federal courts countless times, even to the point of violence and even death to the arresting officer. The problem with this, however, is that the civilian cannot possibly know whether or not the arrest is lawful ahead of time - hell, they can't even be sure whether it is an arrest or simply detention ahead of time. Even if they have done nothing wrong and have a clean bill of mental health, it is impossible for them to know whether or not they have inadvertently done something (by definition >.>) or are unwittingly associated with a criminal and are being arrested or detained for questioning involved with that association. It's a simple matter of paper vs. reality, theory vs. practice, etc. On paper and in theory, all citizens have the right to violently resist unlawful arrest, with the constantly reaffirmed ruling being by any means necessary. In reality and in practice, however, since the citizen has no means of determining the legality of an arrest or detention, they have no legal defense for their actions in the resisting of an arrest or detention even if it is in fact unlawful. There have been lots of recent (last ~5 years) cases of FUBAR'd drug raids (address was misspelled or off by 1 number, usually) where the home owner has defended themselves and killed and injured officers, with the same reasoning above being used every time to throw the home owners in jail: They had no means of knowing it was an unlawful arrest.
