I've already seen several commentators saying that the Jets-Colts game will be the same as the Ravens-Colts game because we have similar styles. Therefore, a similar result. I would agree in some instances, mainly that both teams rely on the run and play solid defense. However, I think the big difference between the Ravens and Jets is the offensive line. I don't think the Jets have better running backs than the Ravens, but they have a better offensive line to give them a place to run. They did an excellent job in the second half opening holes for the run game. Our offense will have to do better, earlier against the Colts in order to win. I do wonder if we play more zone defense like the Chargers game or go back to man defense.
I disagree, if the Ravens hadn't made HALF the mistakes they made the Colts would be sitting home. Manning will throw an interception. We will defeat them. Besides wasnt everyone saying the Chargers were the number one team in the NFL?
Chargers were the hottest team in the NFL and we cooled them right down. IF the jets can play with HALF the mistakes that Baltimore made, our OL WILL wear down their DL. It has happened against every other team we have faced and it will happen against the colts. Literally nothing went right for the ravans that game. If we play that similar style with limited mistakes then we sure as hell have a chance.
Our defense is and is playing much better. Plus Peyton does not play well in the playoffs. We play good, mistake free football and put up 20 points we will win.
Expect the refs to help the Colts again next week. Let's not forget how it was when the Jets played the Colts and their starters were in the game. Phantom calls galore. Refs throwing flags against Revis for nonsense.
Another thing worth mention. Manning played like very bad against the Ravens. He was very uncomfortable the whole game. We can put more pressure on him and he won't play any better.
Major difference is the Jets secondary is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the Ravens! yeah sure, Ed Reed is a monster but who else do they have there? Plus the Ravens don't run as good as we do. They are better in playing the screen to Rice than we are but in no way do they run through the middle like the Jets! I'm not worried about our O, we'll find a way to put 20 points up there... the biggest match up is our secondary vs Manning&co (who I think is a great great QB just to be clear).
Why not say the game will be similar to the jets charges game instead. The colts and charges also have very similar teams. High powered offenses, great qb, no real running game, and shoddy defenses. Those are the teams that we match up best against. If you have to say this game will be a carbon copy of one from last week, I say it will be similar to the game we just played.
I guess I'm more referring to the difference between the Ravens' and Jets' run games specifically, not the Ravens-Colts game. The Ravens had some major fuck ups and bad luck in that game. But I really believe our offensive line is the difference maker.
Our offense is SO much more creative and dynamic vs. the Ravens. Plus, and maybe it's becuase Flacco's hurt... Sanchez is better then Flacco! I don't know if it's the supporting cast, innate skill, coaching or game planning, but watching Flacco vs. the Colts was just pathetic! They had no trust in him. Plus, just because both the Jets and Ravens like to run does not mean they're the same offensive team. Greene + Jones > Rice + McGahee Jets Oline > Ravens Oline (we got 3 Pro bowlers next to each other for Revis sake!) Playaction threat on Jets > Ravens (our WRs and big play ability is riddiculously greater then the Ravens') Jets Run Variety > Ravens (wildcat, inside, outside, pulling guards, misdirection, fake pass, end around, etc... we do it all) So yea, they're both running teams so the result will be the same. (sarcasm)
The Ravens shied away from running in the 2nd half, we have to stick to our game plan and eventually holes will be blown open and big runs will break. I like our matchup.
Our QB is playing better, we have better WRs, we have a shutdown corner and overall our D has been better this year. We'll put up a better fight than Baltimore did.
Everyone's ignoring the biggest difference. By moving to Rice, the Ravens emphasized a rushing/screen game that works on speed and shiftiness. The Colts' defense works on speed as well. They're FAR less equipped to handle a power running game.
well said...they are undersized but fast. our o-line should have no problem pushing guys off the first level, it'll be the creativity of our blocking that will have to get them off the second level
The biggest difference between the Ravens and the Jets is that Flacco was really hurt, like throwing only 10 passes in the win against New England hurt. The other important difference is that the Ravens pass defense was good this year but not great. The Jets pass defense is the best we've ever had and the best in the NFL since 2002.
I think your O line is just like the Ravens. Thats not a bad thing its a compliment, the Ravens have a monster O line. I think the difference between this game and the last between us will come down to our D. Many teams have made the mistake of saying how they can run all over us. I know stats don't show but our D can stop the run. Power backs, speed backs it doesn't matter.
The Ravens got beat, it wasn't the officials and it wasn't their own self inflicted mistakes. You don't fumble if somebody else doesn't give you a good hit, and both the big Raven fumbles were caused by good plays by the Colts. Jets can win if they dominate the aspects of the game that they depend on -- defense and the running game, and force the Colts into mistakes. and if they do, it will be because the Jets forced them into bad plays, not because the Colts beat themselves.
