"Everybody believes in (Gholston). Really, it's just getting to the point where he says, 'All right, I can do this.' "

I agree...the organization believes he can turn into a great equipment manager....he just needs to put it all together and say he can do it.

If this guy develops, which is considered a miracle at this point, the jets defence would be impossible to throw against.

"The thing is with Vernon, he's the type of person where he's got the same demeanor every day," Pace said. "If something is funny, he's got the same demeanor. If something's bad, he's got the same demeanor. So, I always was like, 'Man, it's just hard to read him.'

As I've said before, I don't think that he has that "Killer" instinct that you need to be able to play NFL football. When you're a defensive player, you HAVE to WANT to HURT the opposing players. Beat them into submission. He just seems like too much of a nice guy. Physically, he has all the gifts but mentally, I seriously don't think that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Vernon is going to make a big special teams play today. He's going to make a big hit on Sproles and force a fumble. Rex will then decide he should reward him and put him in. He will put Vernon at DE and let him pass rush on passing downs and he'll wind up with 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a TD!

This will vault Vernon to a superstar!

did anyone catch nfl matchup yesterday? while discussing the saints running game, they showed a cutback run that the saints had against the jets. hoge pointed out that the olb on that play was clearly confused. i looked and of course it's gholston. he had outside contain, but just stood there and got taken out by a WR. ridiculous.

the guy has the physical skills. he's not caught up mentally. there's some potential there if he can catch up mentally, but honestly, i haven't seen anything to suggest he'll catch up. then again, pace was in a similar position...

I hear a rumor that he has My Little Ponies scattered in his locker for emotional support...so he can go to his happy place.

See, I really think Gholston can be an ok player in this league. He wont be an every down backer. He has the physical gifts, he just needs to put it together. Trust me, I hate the guy, but I really think there is a chance he puts it together eventually. He'll never be a pro bowler, but he wont be so bad we want him nowhere near the field.

I hope Gholston has hope because, man, if we can get Gholston to play at his potential, we could have the best defense of all time.

I believe that sentence says he had 1 sack in each of his first 4 seasons which means he had 3 sacks in his first 4 seasons.

Great to see a positive spirit instead of the usual trashing of players who were drafted as known projects then were mishandled as rookies and then asked to do new things again in their second year. It takes time to get there for some guys. Three years is usually considered the development arc.

Ghost looks very slow on the field. I rewatched the Bengals' opening kick return. He looks like he had cement shoes on when he was running after the returner. He also is not flexible in his hips. His change of direction speed is awful.

Not sure exactly what pace was talking about.

He had 4.5 sacks in his second year (2004)
And 1 sack each year in his other 3 of first 4 years

So 7.5 sacks in 4 years.

Secrete weapon. He will be unleashed today, he has been pretending to suck all year and will now, today have 3 sacks 4 FF's and 5 Int's 2 returned for a touchdown. Championship!

Haha, that's what I was going to say, they were saving him for today. Really, why are we worried about Vernon Gholston today of all days?

one of the " knocks " against vernon when he was
in college/came out of college was that he " took plays off " .
now i think it's safe to say that vernon
    takes seasonS off . . :(

    cheers ~ ~
