Just read this board. I am convinced most Jet fans have several scars on their wrists, a couple may even have rope burns around their necks.
I'm not saying I disagree. I've put a few holes in my wall on account of this team this year. Not to mention, I still continue to say "if we beat SD" as if I myself am an unbeliever. I just think it was a well worded quote..not to mention fucking hilarious, since it calls out the truth. I put that shit up on facebook too.
We're football masochists. For me, the uncertainty it's part of the fun of being a Jets' fan. I don't know if I'd like a dominating franchise like the Pats were, with the arrogant boasting and the hordes of new "fans" because they pick their teams by reading the standings. This said, I do want a winning team, and I want a Super Bowl this year, so let's kick some Chargers' ass tonight!
Embracing our history of crushing disappointments is a coping mechanism. In the words of Buffalo Springfield: When you can't be with the one you love.......love the one your with.
As my wife says: "It's like a bad relationship. The Jets are the abusive husband who now and then seems loving and caring but who mostly is a prick. The Jets fans are the wife who stays with him in the hopes that things will ultimately get better, but never do. All those loving times are just delays between getting punched in the stomach..."
It changes a lot. It would be awesome. Sure, there will be next year, but the Jets would be world champs! I guess you mean it will not change you or my passion for the team, which is true, but a title makes being a fan well worth it.
if you love this team, you are no doubt a tortured fuck in some way. but from pain and suffering comes ultimate satisfaction so we will get ours. i hope that time is now
