nobody is saying the stats are going to determine how the game will play out, just that they validate their opinion of how the game will play out. not sure how you can confuse the two. oh, wait, I do, you're a proven moron.

The media did the same thing with the Ryan - Crowder bit. Crowder didn't read the papers and reporters fed him quotes out of context, then he got worked up about it and talked trash.
