Pretty self explanatory. Underrated: Kam Chancellor - Jumbo safety prospect. Physical game, holds his own in coverage, makes plays on the ball, and is a team leader on a good college D. His playing style reminds me of Adrian Wilson, but I should refrain from comments like that. Vince Oghobaase - Like Greg Hardy injuries killed his senior year. Still, consistently handled double and triple teams in college, and produced. Extremely bright, but will need to be coached up. Alot of praise for his work ethic and character before this year, but they just started randomly popping up on message boards a while ago. I think he can be a starting caliber big-man. He can play all positions on the DL (obviously not DE in a 4-3 all the time, better cover that base too), so he really offers an enticing package to smart teams. I'm really hoping he has a big offseason, because he's capable of it. Mardy Gilyard - All this Jordan Shipley talk, but Gilyard and Tate are the two best slot candidates for us. Then Shipley, maybe. Brandon Ghee and Boo Robinonson - Good players on a quiet and mediocre college team. Jacoby Ford - Another slot WR candidate. Fast, and forgotten due to the dominance of Spiller. Brandon Spikes - Prototypical 3-4 ILB. A 3-4 team will love him. Anthony McCoy - Has the potential to be the #1 TE in the draft. Very good, well rounded game with excellent size. Colin Peek and Michael Longname from Illinois are similar talents, but I don't see them getting picked too high. Shay Hodge - I like him. Reminds me of Cotchery, but Cotchery produced with Rivers at NCSt. Still, good kid with solid physical abilities. Brandon Lang - I feel like he could end up as one of the top 3 DEs in this class post combine, but I'll just wait on that. Really like his game. Ben Tate Antonio Coleman Keiland Williams - Better pro than college player type RB. Jermaine Cunningham Alex Carrington Jeffery Fitzgerald Brandon Deaderick Dexter Davis AJ Edds Kurt Coleman - Like many DBs that rise in the offseason, Coleman is a smart, well coached play. Like many DBs who rise in the offseason, Coleman's size and speed can be questioned. 5'11 195 (probably 200-205 come Feb.) is not an issue, and if he can run a 4.5 he's a solid second rounder. If he runs higher, he slips into the first round. Can play FS or SS...simply a good DB. Overrated: Jared Odrick - Don't see the first round talk. Can't trust a Penn State DT. Becomes a good pick around 3 imo. Ricky Sapp - I keep seeing him in the first round. What is that? Sergio Kindle - Not sure he fits a 3-4. Not as stout as Orakpo, but is a better pure athlete. Taylor Mays - Remember his 4.28? Man that was funny. Good talent and a good kid, but his hype was ridiculous. Carlos Dunlap - Too Gaines Adams-y for my taste. Not stout enough to be a run stopping DE and not a good enough pass rusher to be a pass rushing DE. I guess his upside is high, but not my style and I doubt Rex's. Colt McCoy - Who buys NFL starter in this guy? Great college QB though...one of my favorite college players.
Overrated: Jonathan Dwyer- I loved him before the year, but damn if he didn't disappoint me every chance he had. He can be a strong runner with speed, but he has a really awkward style of running and I honestly don't see him ever panning out. Russ Okung- Doesn't impress me, didn't do anything his senior year to make him stand out. The other OTs aren't fantastic, but their potential gives them an edge. Still solidly my 4th OT. Derrick Morgan- Maybe he's just unlucky, but when I saw him he's been ineffective. He was dominated in the Miami game, and was nowhere in the Bowl game vs Bulaga (and the freshman who's name I forgot). He's also one of the few DEs at the top of this class that doesn't have the versatility to step back to OLB. Greg Hardy- I don't know if overrated is the right word, but I just can't get a read on him. I feel like he's always got some sort of injury nagging him, or some excuse for why he isn't playing up to potential. Honestly,my gut says that he doesn't really care as much about being great as his counterparts. Patrick Robinson- He's toast. Consistently burned by receivers because he relies on his speed and not his ability to play cornerback. What's most startling is that teams actually seemed to be picking on him at times. Underrated: Levi Brown- In a draft largely lacking your prototype QBs, he's a shining light. I think he'll end up in the first 3 rounds for sure, maybe Rd 2. Montario Hardesty and Anthony Dixon- I would seriously consider either of them over some of the highly regarded UCs in this draft. Hardesty is a complete back who's thrived in a workhorse role. Anthony Dixon is what every power back should be, he wants to hit you because, quite frankly, he doesn't like you. Demaryius Thomas- I love this kid, if this were 2004 he'd be a top ten pick. Sadly for him, not every 6-4 WR goes at the top of the draft any more, and he'll likely fall because of questions about his offense in college and speed. To be honest, I don't care about that, he's got enough speed and the ability to make a play. Danario Alexander and Jeremy Williams- A pair of forgotten senior wideouts, both with the ability to be starters in the NFL. Jimmy Graham- Keep an eye on him, he'll end up closer to the top of the draft than most would think. Willie Young- Long arms, athletic, and productive, would be a great option in the 4th for teams that have missed out on an end up to that point. Devin McCourty- Said it before, I'll say it again. Great all-around corner, very tough, good tackler, plays all special teams, and will workout very well. Darrell Stuckey- Quickly being forgotten in this dynamic and beastly safety class. Very smart, great character kid, and can play the run and the pass. Not a big play safety, but the type to make his secondary-mates look good.
I'm surprised you didn't include Kurt Coleman in your rankings DWare? Overrated: OK State's OT Russ Okung: I couldn't agree more with GH. I've never, ever liked him as a top prospect. He got completely worked by Texas A&M's Von Miller and Texas' Sergio Kindle. USC's S Taylor Mays: Built like a linebacker, runs like a corner, and plays like a bitch. Mays will occasionally deliver a big hit, but he NEVER makes plays on the ball. Almost seems like a waste of god given talent. I think his best shot to succeed may be at linebacker in the NFL. California's RB Jahvid Best: I'll just never trust a running back out of Cal. Jeff Tedford runs a nice little system out in Berkeley. Smallish backs with a good speed = very nice production...at the college level. TCU's DE/OLB Jerry Hughes: This guy had great production against mid-major talent. His numbers have a lot of people thinking big things, but I don't know if he'll be able to handle NFL sized linemen. Underrated: Fresno State's RB Ryan Mathews: Everyone on this board knows this is my favorite player in the draft. If he can stay healthy, he'll be a hell of a back in the NFL. He's being overlooked by a lot of scouts right now. I really think Mathews can pass guys like Dwyer and Best before draft time. Boise State's CB/PR Kyle Wilson: The best corner in the west. The guy's got amazing speed and quickness, great ball skills, and he likes to hit. It'll be really interesting to see how the cornerback rankings shape up when the draft comes around. California's DE Tyson Alualu: ...one of my favorite 3-4 end prospects since the beginning of the college football season. Alualu showed consistency at 3-4 end in 2009. His experience in the 3-4 is definitely something that teams will take in to account. Bowling Green's WR Freddie Barnes: One of the better route runners in all of college football. Barnes is definitely the best mid-major receiver. He's not the fastest guy in the world, so that will push him down on a lot of draft boards, but he knows how to get open and get to the endzone.
Kurt Coleman is on my underrated list. I can do a writeup. It'll be up after I finish this post. ... GGH - Good call on Okung. I don't think any LT prospect is in the D'Brick/Thomas/Long class of LT this decade. I don't even think anyone's as good as Monroe/Oher/Smith last year even. Graham and Young are two of my favorite Day 2 prospects. Really like Thomas to get drafted in the first 3 rounds, and he has first round upside. Awesome size/speed numbers at 6'3 230 (possibly taller). He's my 4th WR after Bryant/Williams/Benn. Then is Tate and Gilyard.
I think USC's Charles Brown has the athleticism to play left tackle in a zone blocking scheme. He's my top tackle prospect. If SC wasn't so stacked on the offensive line, this kid would be getting a lot more credit. He's got limited starting experience, but he's been AWESOME in pass-pro and run blocking. He won't go in the top of the draft like the big time tackles that you mentioned, but he could be a very solid pickup in the teens.
I think Brown can go very high...USC coaches their players extremely well and his only real question is size, and this is the NFL they can put size on a 6'5 frame. He's got the chance to end up in the late first...maybe even earlier.
I think Bruce Campbell could see value as a top ten pick after workouts with the hype that's surrounding him. A guy his size with a 4.8 40 and a bench up near 500 is pretty damn impressive, and he was a good pass blocker as a Terp. I think he can still get a bit more solid up top to handle bull rushers and have success in the run game, but he's got the skills to be up near the top of the draft. I agree, he's no D'Brickashaw-type prospect, but I think he's got similar potential to our guy.
Davis would be the other LT prospect I think has really high upside. Okung is a good player, but nothing about him is amazing. I only saw the Idaho-Bowling Green game, but Iupati to me is the best OL in this draft. I like him purely as a LG, though RT wouldn't kill him.
Mike Iupati is a fucking beast. The guy consistently gets to the next level on running plays. I see Anthony Davis as more of a right tackle prospect in the pros.
I don't really know if he's forgotten. CJ Spiller is just a much, much better football player. Spiller is a football player that runs track. Ford is a track guy that plays football. Yes, there's a difference. I can see Jacoby Ford becoming a 4th or 5th receiver in the pros. He definitely has value as a return specialist though.
More underrateds: Walter McFadden/Chris Cook/Perrish Cox/Lewis - All well sized, athletic CBs from good programs... Kyle Calloway - Another good OL prospect from Ferentz. It'd be cool to see him as the RT of the future on the Jets. Like him as much as Bulaga, but he won't cost a first round pick and alot of bs over being a LT. There's alot of solid players in this draft...
Perrish Cox is my 2nd rated CB in the draft, every time I've seen him he's impressed me, and he'll have good timed speed too. Walter McFadden blew up in their bowl game and was making plays all over the field, he earned himself some money.
I want to go full Samoan on our first day. Mike Iupati in round 1, Tyson Alualu in round 2. I shall eat pineapple and be happy, should this occur.
Oh yeah... I remember about him. If he's available in the third around (if we manage via trade dons to get a third) I'd like us to draft him as a RT. I think he can be real good. However I still feel Iupati could be the best option... Plus a Jcotch said if we go Iupati and Alualu (Hawaiaan but still cool hair) in the first two rounds then free wigs for everyone
I actually had Scott in the 5th in a Jets mock I was working on this morning. Played above his head as a Left Tackle this season, but has a nice future either at guard or over on the right side. Good size and did enough to excel as a pass blocker in the SEC against all those passrushers.
He ain't dropping past mid 3rd!!! 3-4 DE that alredy played the position in college don't grow on trees!
Underrated Charles Brown OT-USC Quite athletic, his main problem is that he is a little underweight but it is correctable Brian Price DT UCLA-Strong guy always seems to be around the ball, nice quickness off the snap Charles Scott RB LSU- if he clears up his medical problems he is going to make some team very happy, he runs hard and he runs through people. Good leader as well Overrated Taylor Mays S USC-as Mayock would say "typical H-W-S guy" so basically has no skills Tony Pike QB Cincinnati- I have seen some QB boards that have him as the second best QB in the draft. I'm sorry but he is a typical spread QB Demaryius Thomas WR Georgia Tech- He is probably a better blocker than receiver. Play's in a triple option where route running is not emphasized. Don't like his hands
