WOW at REX comments Said, " I would like to congratulate all those who voted for Darrelle Revis because they really know the game. The number I would like to tell you is 8, and no that is not the number of touchdowns greenbay gave up yesterday, but the number of passing touchdowns we've given up all year...This year has been the best year a corner has ever had in the National Football League..."
Opposing teams have to change their entire game play when they play ball with Revis on the field. Woodson on the field not so much, but he still demands his respect while on the field.
Charles Woodson wins honor as top defensive player Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 12, 2010 10:25 AM ET Packers cornerback Charles Woodson will get a nice consolation prize after his team lost over the weekend. In a mild surprise (to me, anyway), Woodson was named the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year, winning the award over Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. Woodson earned 28 votes, while Revis finished second with 14 votes. Elvis Dumervil got three votes, Darren Sharper got three from voters that must not have watched many Saints games, and Jared Allen received two votes. The debate between Woodson and Revis is one of what you value. Revis put together one of the most dominant "shutdown" cornerback seasons in memory. He routinely erased top wideouts like Deion Sanders in his prime. Woodson's value came from his cover skills and his versatility. His big play numbers -- nine interceptions, four forced fumbles, three touchdowns, and two sacks -- likely earned him the edge. Revis would have earned my vote, but both men were worthy picks. Woodson was first cornerback to win the award since Sanders in 1994, and the second Packers player ever. Reggie White won in 1998.
Wow, some interesting comments from Rex- If your a Jet fan, you gotta love him, I can't see any other coach coming out like that.
I actually was thinking along the same lines before you brought this up. I was justifying Woodson winning DPOY, because clearly the voters do not think of DPOY in terms of an MVP type award. Woodson isn't even the MVP on his own team...
The more I read about this the more infuriated I become. I now forever despise CHarles Woodson not ONLY for being a Michigan alum..but for overshadowing one of the dominant seasons for a cornerback in NFL history.
All Revis has to do is look at Leon with a broken leg and no contract and I'm sure he'll realize that Keels is a turd. It's not like we have a great situation with Revis' contract anyway - he shares the same agent as Kendall and Baker. If we want to keep him, it will be a historically high-paying contract.
When a guy like Adam Schein, who does the Jet post game every week and watches Revis every week, votes for Woodson, it tells you all you need to know about who was gonna win. I really thought Revis would win based on that he won the USA DPOY Award and that's voted on by writers across the country plus, moronically, I took Schein saying that he talked to other voters and based on that thought Revis would win as being a big thing. As it turned out, Revis gets doubled in votes and all Schein did was look ridiculous saying that.
(sorry for double post) another point supporting Revis: If you ask all 32 GMs to pick a cornerback for your team, all 32 teams would choose Revis including the Packers
it's total bullshit, but I don't really care that much because it'll keep him cheaper and hungrier. Championships>>>>>individual accolades.

There are very few corners that are able to handle that, and Woodson is not one of them.. Probably just Revis and Asomugha atm.. I knew Woodson would win though, but its a complete joke.. Revis had an impact very few corners have ever had this season, 2 more return td's and 3 more picks (while being targeted much much more) do not make up for what Revis brought to the table this year, not to mention was on the #1 pass d..
This is almost as retarded as giving a Baseball player MVP based off RBIs/RUNS/HRs. As retarded as Dustin Pedroia winning MVP when he wasn't even the best player on his own team. Revis shut down every bitch he faced. What the hell do you want him to do?
Woodson, Thrown at 76 times with 51.3% of those throws being completed for 448 yardsHe's given up 5 TDs with only 8 passes defended. The QB rating against him was 51.8 Revis, Thrown at 111 times with 36.9 % of those passes being completed for 425 yards. He gave up only 2 TD's and had 23 passes defended. The QB rating against him was 32.3.
