No. Oh, OK. I've already heard this stuff. Just like I heard his picks were because of other things, as if that's any different from any other player. Personally, I think Rhodes' problem is that Ryan hoped to turn him into Ed Reed when Rhodes is bigger, more physical, and much better closer to the LOS than Reed. Ryan should have been using him like Mangini used him before Elam became the #2 safety...like the Steelers use Troy P. or the Cardinals use Wilson. I also think Leonhard's percieved skillset...I thought he could cover and would take the over the top safety job from Rhodes....hurt Rhodes...because Leonhard isn't that player...he's a well trained version of Elam. I mean no offense to Leonhard, who probably would care alot if he read this. Also heard this...Still don't believe it. It was so shitty we finished with the #1 running game, a playoff spot, a rookie QB who's gotten better, and a smooth transition into the offense when we added a new WR and traded Sanchez's 2nd favorite target. Leonhard as in the guy who consistently would get run over, is undersized, doesn't make many plays on the ball, and isn't what I thought he was at all as far as coverage goes? Rhodes >>>>>>>>> Leonhard. But it didn't. It's not as if he's 5'8 180 with little ball or coverage skills. He's 5'11 close to 200, plays for a big program thats pumped out high end DB prospects, and he's racked up 9 picks in his last 2 years. Which goes to show how meaningless measurables can be.... Hmmm...smaller safeties...good in coverage...team leaders...both play for big programs...both make plays.... But yea, Thomas did have a more beastly 2009. He's got the better defensive talent around him so he should have more opportunities to get those 8 INTs, but I'm not going to crucify him for it. I still don't see him as worlds apart from Coleman at all. Florida players are generally overhyped...especially the ones that everyone likes to talk about (Dunlap, Wright, Tebow). Haden started the year under appreciated, and he's a beast...Same for Cunningham...And for whatever reason no one talks about Marsh, and he's awesome.
Leonhard has been a far better safety than Rhodes has this season. It's not even close. Jimmy has called the defense on a number of occasions, and has been a far better tackler than Rhodes WHILE PLAYING WITH A BROKEN THUMB. Rhodes has had trouble tying his shoes on a number of occasions. I figured you would have learned something about football in the past year. But I'm glad you didn't. It's funnier that way.
As long as you ignore Leonhard getting run over by RBs because he doesn't talk as much as Rhodes, then sure. Or I could pretend that he made some plays in coverage to make this true, but then I'd be lying to myself and lying is wrong. Rhodes had to play like absolute sh*t to even make this contest between him and Leonhard even close. Not only is it funnier, but it means we're still fairly evenly matched...Slight advantage me but thats because of good looks. You're not like a cousin/offshoot of SMC or Jordy from other Jets boards are you?
Who said anything about Rhodes talking? I could not care less as long has he produces on the field, which includes not getting run over by running backs like he is smaller and weaker than Leonhard with 2 broken thumbs and a broken spine, and it also includes playing the ball better than raking in 3 gimme interceptions and doing not much else for the entire season - and also includes not losing his starting job for any point during the season. The fact that you don't even realize how much like absolute shit Kerry Rhodes has played is laughable. I'm going to have to get re-acclimated to your weak football posts.
Interesting opinion that Rhodes has been playing well and Leonard is replaceable. One person thinking it doesn't make it correct though. I'll move on from it.
I'm still trying to figure out why DWare still thinks Gholston is serviceable......was DWare banned for a year or cryogenically frozen?
Jimmy Leonhard?! Holy guacamole, man! Jimmy Leonhard has been one of the most consistent bright spots on this team the entire season. We are set at his position as long as he demonstrates the ability to stay healthy. Now, I'm going to assume that since you're touting Leonhard as a speed bump, you must have a mental inventory of about 10 to 15 plays where Leonhard was just bulldozed by a running back. But I'll settle for two. Tell me about two of the times this season when Leonhard was pwned by a running back. I guess it's to be expected. If I took a year off from watching football and just checked the Jets rosters prior to my ban lift, I would have to assume the recently acquired, small, white safety was getting bitched in the running game, as well. Reality tells a different story. Mediocre. Way to use up your welcome back credibility on the first day, DWare.
I'd suggest stopping and re-reading what I wrote on him then. What's so interesting about it? Leonhard is a guy who works hard and does what he can. Unfortunately, "what he can" do is play the run fairly well but not great and be mediocre in coverage. Rhodes is a guy who had two Pro Bowl worthy seasons, played well as a deep safety, got benched, then came back and started logging INTs again. Then he shuts down Gonzalez for a whole game, only to be taken off of him (for Leonhard and Smith IIRC, which I don't think I am) for the last play of that game. Rhodes is bigger, faster, has more range in coverage, blitzes just as well (because I've notice Leonhard get pressure...so does Rhodes but he talks too much for anyone to care), and generally has a more well rounded game. Oh, and how's life Mick? Fred Jackson on the Bills might have ran him over 15 times in one game. OK...not really...but twice, easily. My credibility's gone? Already? Fuck man...Over calling Jim Leonhard mediocre? I can think of better bright spots than him, who I am now destined to be told I hate.
Fake news. I thought that was a permaban but maybe there is something in the details I don't know about. When Gholston is on the field teams immediately attack him. That's not serviceable. I've learned to accept his opinions and move on if they are too optimistic. There's no moving him from his convictions. He will not be, he will not be moved.
Rhodes does have the talent. But this year he worried more about life off the field, stopped holding meetings with the DBs at his house, and started to use a pussy shoulder push to tackle 228lb Linebackers. And thus the hatred begins. He's a better player than Leonard, but not this year. That's why he was benched. Has he been better as of late? Yes, but its nowhere near the old Rhodes that prompted me to go get his jersey. Life is okay. Up and down. Right now up, the Jets are in the playoffs
How is that 'nuff said? You said I think Gholston is serviceable...when what I said is we should keep the guy who'd cost a ton of money to cut at 24 years old. That hurt me brain...people never fail to disappoint.
if you don't think he's serviceable.....then why keep him? because of his salary?? Unless you're Woody Johnson....why would you give a fuck?! There's a good chance we're gonna enter an uncapped year....Gholston should be the first one to hit the curb outside of Florham Park. He's a pile of garbage who can barely play Special Teams. Get past the semantics. EDIT: my apologies to the rest of the posters...this is the draft forum and should stay as is....I will discontinue my participation on this discussion. Welcome back Dware...but you're out of your fucking mind.
Well with logic like that... 1 - Why would Woody cut him to pay him more money to work for someone else? 2 - In actuality, I don't give a fuck. It's just common sense. 3 - Uncapped just means uncapped, it doesn't mean Woody will be paying less to let a 24 year old top 10 pick play for someone else. 4 - You keep him because it's not out of the realm of possibility that he can be servicable, no matter how much you vehemently insist. See...when you say things like this it makes me not take you seriously. It's so unnecessarily dramatic... Can't...not really a fan of words being put in my mouth and you're trying as hard as you can to shove them down there. You don't strike me as sane either...but Cheers.
Well... maybe Leonhard was just setting up Darrelle Revis to force some fumbles. Ever think of that? I hear that's what better safeties than Leonhard do vs. the Bills.
