FA: Anthony Montgomery - Big DE/DT to add to rotation. Only 25. Similar to the Dolphins signing Starks. Edwards Leon Draft: 1 - Kurt Coleman - S from OSU will fly up boards. 2 - Vince Oghobaase - One of my favorite players in the draft. Prototypical size, top talent, handled double and triple teams consistently his whole college career. Severely underrated, and should get more press come Shrine game time. 4 - Lindsey Witten - Hopefully goes higher (for his sake), but really fluid pass rusher. Like his upside... 6 - Blair White - Our own tough white WR. Wouldn't mind the underrated Shady Hodge or Carlton Mitchell. 7 - Zoltan Mesko - P. We need a P.
Alternate... Same FA. 1 - Aurelius Benn - Unless we can get Bryant. Golden Tate would be acceptable. 2 - Boo Robinson - Future NT. 4 - Kam Chancellor - BIG safety...reminds me of Adrian Wilson. 6 - Nate Byham - Big TE. 7 - Eric Moncur - Miami DE.
I like it, but only if Edwards gets traded. Ditto for Rhodes vis-a-vis the safety picks. San Diego delenda est.
Welcome back...........I think!!!! We knew it was happening real soon. I do like some OSU football players I love Kurt Coleman, great player, has a nose for the ball, but he's not first round talent. Coleman's size & speed will hurt his stock. You're right Coleman's stock is on the rise and I could see him getting into late rd 2 after the combine. Also, Coleman will be an outstanding ST player. I'm not as high on Ogbo, still a good player, I prefer Wootton. Blair White may turn out to be an excellent mid-round WR, good size, not a burner but makes plays. Has really good hands and runs good routes...NFL slot receiver potential. You really like Big Ten players!!! I'm one of the few that totally agree with you that the Jets need a new punter....I like Matt Dodge from E. Carolina.
Six months ago everyone was expecting Arrelious Benn to be a top ten pick, Juice Williams took care of Benn's fate. It's possible the Jets go WR in rd 1, Sanchez needs more weapons. IMO, it all depends if Braylon Edwards is still a Jet. If Edwards is gone, Benn would be a great choice. If Edwards stays, he probably will, I would rather draft a slot receiver in a later rd. Boo Robinson is one of my favorite players...love the pick. I've had Boo in a couple of my mocks. Jenkins is on 'house money' and doesn't have much tread on his tires. Pouha is good, the Jets need another force in the middle. Nate Byham doesn't have much of a resume (had some injuries), I don't think he's better than Hartsock. I do like the positons you are targeting in both Mocks.
Well, in first round WR's case I'd take them even with Edwards. 3 > 2...and this offense can use as many weapons as it can get. Think Donte Whitner with Coleman. Byham can be replaced by any late round TE....Peek....Graham...Epps...the guy from Illi with the long name... Oghobaase = Steal. Sucks he got injured his senior season.
Whitner was an excellent player at OSU, but was a reach for Buffalo at #8 in 2006. I agree Coleman's stock will rise, he's a terrific talent. The problem with Coleman and alot of other players, this draft is LOADED and their stock will drop...numbers game. I like Ogbo...I just like Wootton's potential (who was also hurt) a little more. Both players will probaly be drafted very close together in rd 2.
Whitner is a damn good player in this league...A reach in the sense that most fans didn't expect him to go there but such is life. I don't think Wootton is stout enough just yet, but I wouldn't complain about having him. He's big and he's active...what more is there to ask. That said, I think Oghobaase could have first round potential if he's healthy for the offseason. BTW: Where's the Guardian of the TGG draft forum? I thought perhaps his Highness would be glad to see me.
Whitner is a very good NFL player, not a top tier player at his postion and just not worth a #8 pick.....value man, value...it was a reach. Buffalo should have tried to trade down I could live with either Wootton or Ogbo, but they're not going to be available in late rd 2 for the Jets and both won't be drafted in rd 1. Mid rd 2 is where I'm projecting both players as of right now.
Meh, really tough to look at it that way since the draft never works out so that the best players are taken where they should go. For a minute there, Whitner was one of the few non-busts in the '06 top 10, and he's certainly closer to a top safety than a bottom one. He's probably the Bills best secondary player, and that's saying alot because they've got two very good, young corners. What I want is a safety who can pair with Rhodes who can also cover...theres a whole bunch of guys who can do it in this draft, but Coleman is a name to get to know.
I look at value, Whitner wasn't a bust, but could have been drafted later in rd 1 and Buffalo could have picked a up a few more draft picks. When I think of Whitner, he isn't a top Safety in the NFL...a solid good player, not the cream of the crop.
You know how many players you can say that about? Vernon Davis wasn't giving #6 overall value for the past 3 years. Not only is that hard to quantify, but too much is based on the assumption that these high first round picks are finished products when they're coming out. They're not, and the game is changing too much at the NFL level to possibly be true. And like I said, Whitner is closer to top safety than not. We also won't be picking in the top 10, but somewhere in the 20's.
Who said we were picking in the 10's???...not me buddy!! As we usually do ...I agree to disagree. VALUE is all about drafting in the NFL...end of story....you don't get it.
Dude, you're out of the loop. No one here wants Kerry Rhodes' sorry ass on this team anymore. Why replace Jimmy Leonhard so quickly? Also, most guys around here know who Kurt Coleman is and he isn't a first round talent, just like WW said. I like this kid a lot too, but there's better talent available (especially with all of the underclassmen declaring): Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, Morgan Burnett, Taylor Mays, Chad Jones, Nate Allen, are Major Wright COULD all go higher. Coleman is the kind of player that will get picked up in the mid-rounds and become a starter down the road - he's too smart of a player to fail.
No, I know that. I try to ignore the petty overreactions from Jets fans...it's just the latest whim based on frustrations that have to be pinned on one person. This year it's been alot of Schotty and Rhodes. I hardly expect anyone we draft to start right away. That said, Leonhard is mediocre and all the heart in the world can't really fix that. Coleman's better than all those guys but Berry and maaaaaaybe Thomas, who is a very similar (but more hyped probably less heady) player. Mays could be there, but he's not the ballhawk the other 3 are. Major Wright sucks balls...much like Carlos Dunlap. I like Chad Jones a whole lot though...Allen too...Kam Chancellor...Myron Lewis as a CB/S...Stuckey...Asante....Kendrick Lewis...
Do you not watch Jets' football? Kerry Rhodes has taken a major step back on the field and he acts like a total douche off of it. He doesn't like it hit and last week, it seemed to me that he likes to get burned by 230 pound running backs. Brian Schottenheimer's play-calling was downright shitty throughout the season. He put Mark Sanchez is a lot of bad situations...but this is the draft forum, so I won't go there. Kerry Rhodes is mediocre with NO heart. As long as Leonhard keeps on producing, he'll be a starter. Holy shit - I thought that year long ban would deflate that head of yours a little bit. Kurt Coleman is a smart player, but he's not very fast and he's not big. The measurables are what's going to hold him back. I absolutely hate Taylor Mays as a prospect, but he'll get drafted because he's built like a linebacker and he's fast as shit. Don't put Earl Thomas and Kurt Coleman on the same level - that's not fair to Thomas. Major Wright has a chance to be a heck of a strong safety at the next level. He's not a smart player and he won't be draft that high, but he's talented. It seems to me like you hate Florida Gators?
So....Leonhard is mediocre......yet, Gholston is vital and shouldn't be cut? Leonhard has been playing with one hand for most of the season while still being productive (tackling and safety blitzing)...... that's some bizarre logic, DWare.
