Thank you Wow there seems to be so much late 1rd early-mid 2rd DL talent in this upcoming draft... I really hope we can trade down from our 1st round pick (which will prob be in the 10-16 range) and get an extra low 2nd or 3rd rounder. If we have to give our 2 instead of our 3 for the Edwards trade I'll be soooooo pissed.
I really, really, really want the Jets to select Carlos Dunlap. If the Jets are in a position to take him, then it has to be done.
Really? I feel he's the most overrated prospect in the draft and don't think he fits the 3-4 at all. He's an impressive physical specimen but after I watched Ciron Black totally shut him down he's scares the hell out of me, at times he looks like he isn't trying
Ciron Black shut him down? I watched that game and Dunlap did his job. He took over the left side of the field...Ciron Black was basically taken out of the game and it allowed guys like Jermaine Cunningham and Brandon Spikes to combine for 5 sacks. Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong don't expect Dunlap to get a ton of sacks - it's his job to create room for others. When teams focus on Dunlap because he's such a dominant player, it allows others to have success. Here's the stat of the game: LSU, who averages about 140 yards on the ground, rushed for just 66 yards against the Gators.
He took Black out of the game? Black is a tackle, his only job in pass protection was to prevent Dunlap from getting to the QB, and he did that all game. I don't know how can you give Dunlap credit for Cunningham and Spikes making plays, he isn't NT, it's not as if he consistently draws double teams.
He does too! Carlos Dunlap controls the line of scrimmage on most running plays. The gaps the he controls are almost always closed. It doesn't matter if Dunlap isn't lining up at nose, he's plays like one. Yes, I can give Dunlap credit for Cunningham and Spikes making big plays. I'm not saying they didn't do anything on the play. Jermaine Cunningham is having a great year because he's lining up on the opposite side of the most dominant defensive end in college football. Spikes usually blitzes right up the gaps next to Dunlap.
3-4 DE prospects: - Suh - Arthur Jones - Vince Oghobaase - Corey Wooton - Jared Odrick - Alex Carrington - Mike Neal - Brandon Deaderick - Jeffery Fitzgerald - Tyson Alualu 3-4 NT prospects: - Terrence Cody - Dan Williams - Boo Robinson - D'Anthony Smith - Cam Thomas - Terrell Troup - Al Woods - Kade Weston - Ekom Udofia
at 6'6 290 i would consider dunlap a possible 3-4 end, he def has the frame to add bulk ... and like a previous poster said he controls the LOS hopefully his little legal troubles cause him to slip a little bit. i dont think we should trade up for him, but if he falls to us we have to take him. too much potential
i feel pretty confident in rex's ability to bring in quality defensive guys. He has done a tremendous job in Baltimore drafting guys that are now great nfl players
DE/OLB rankings: Greg Hardy - Big, versatile player with elite upside. Would be the best pass rusher in this draft if he could stay healthy. Brandon Graham - Reminds me of Lamarr Woodley. High motor, stout build, good experience, and comes from a school thats put out good 3-4 talent. Very productive. Brandon Lang - Prototypical 3-4 OLB size and athleticism. Deceptively strong, very quick, plays well in space, and makes plays behind the LOS. Eric Norwood - Excellent, experience, productive DE/OLB prospect. Sergio Kindle - Slightly overrated right now, but an excellent athlete with very high upside. I think he might work better in a 4-3 as an OLB, but no point in limiting him right now. Will learn more about where he stands this offseason. George Selvie - I value experience alotfor guys making the DE/OLB transitiion, and Selvie was a beast in college for forever it seems. Very athletic...probably underrated in that area right now...often doubled and even tripled in college after his '07. His teammate, JJP, is OK but I won't rank him. Think Bobby McCray with JJP...I won't pigeonhole Selvie just yet. Jerry Hughes - Fast, but I question someone who's risen so quickly. Very productive, very athletic, high character...fits the profile of a high pick but I'm still fishy about him for some reason. Lindsey Witten - High upside, excellent size, fluid athlete...good devleopmental DE. Jermaine Cunningham Willie Young Ricky Sapp Antonio Coleman (one of my favorite sleepers) Eric Moncur
This thread is about LINEMEN, not pass rushers - thanks for trolling once again. George Selvie was a beast for ONE year, not "forever". Teams started to focus on him and he was completely taken out of most games. I think he'll struggle taking on NFL linemen. Selvie has a lot of experience with his hand in the ground, not standing up - I don't see your point with calling him experienced. JPP has way more potential.
Every stat sheet on Boo that I have seen has him listed at 300lbs, so this news just makes my night(morning?, sad). Robinson is someone I would love to see the Jets target. Are there any chances that he sits in the bottom of the second round, or are we going to have to lose an RFA to get the pick for his range? I'm guessing he's not going in the first unless the Steelers overvalue him for Casey Hampton's replacement. San Diego delenda est.
You're creepy. Is it really that serious? Also, I'm not looking for just a pass rusher, because just a pass rusher isn't what they're looking for. And obsessed with this whole upside thing...yet somehow you buy fully into the 100% suckage of Gholston. Selvie is experienced because he played for 4 years in college. I know he played with his hand in the ground. He's still a guy who racked up 28.5 sacks in college and 69 TFL...Not to mention he's athletic with good height and a body that can add weight. Almost all DE/OLB prospects played DE in college. That's why they're DE/OLB prospects...they can also play DE.
I'm creepy because I called you out for posting shit in a thread that didn't belong? It's not THAT serious but it's fucking annoying - you are de-railing GOOD threads with your shitty posts. Gholston has shown absolutely nothing in two full seasons as a professional football player. He sucks - I honestly hope you'll see that soon. There's no upside inside of Vernon Gholston. You put way too much value into stats. There's a huge difference between looking at stats and watching a player in a game. Against good, NFL caliber tackles, like WVU's Selvish Capers and Rutgers' Anthony Davis, Selvie was invisible. If you want to look at stats, Selvie had 1 sack in Big East play...definitely sounds like a beast. Now please, let's get back to talking about 3-4 defensive linemen - I don't give a crap if you go on a rant about how Carlos Dunlap is "soft" because it BELONGS in this thread. ...and the next time you call him soft, please back it up with some proof.
You're creepy. Stop contradicting yourself. Cool story bro, you've enlightened me to this already. Over and over. Today. Selvie's like my 6th ranked DE/OLB propsect, and thats in January. The guy's a 3-5th round pick...shit. You act as if I project superstardom from him lol. Chill the fuck out. It truly is creepy. OK, except the stats are secondary to me. They're nice to have, but I like the size, athleticism, growth potential, and experience more. Even then, he's still not even in the top 30 players I want on the Jets. I'd actually prefer if you just quit your bitching. It's fucking creepy. OK. Carlos Dunlap is soft. No "". He's just soft. He's not even the 290 he's listed at. Also, because he sucks against the run...partially because he's not the 290 he's listed at. Also, he just is.
I love TGG, especially the draft forum, and there are a lot of posters that I consider good friends. Yea, I am going to take some of this seriously because there's no reason for some POS to get off of a ban and come post a ton of bullshit in a damn good forum. Your smug arrogance isn't needed. I don't see why you just can't discuss something without being a total dick. EVERYONE, fucking EVERYONE is against you when it comes to the Vernon Gholston and Jim Leonhard debates. It's blatantly obvious that you are trying to get a rise out of a ton of posters. There's no way in hell someone thinks Vernon Gholston is a good player. It's like you're the Jet fan version of RaiderJoe. This post that I'm replying to is just a giant personal attack. It's a weak attempt at trying to make yourself look smarter than I am. ...how the hell do you know how much Carlos Dunlap weighs? Give me a damn break. Every single media source must be lying, right? You're the only one that actually knows how much he really weighs. I'll try to talk like you on this last part: BTW, I *noticed* that you said Carlos Dunlap sucks against the run. LOL! 4 srs, he doesn't. If you *actually* watched any of Florida's games this season, you most def woulda *noticed* how important Carlos Dunlap was on run defense. OK?
Uh huh...Well in that case, it's perfectly normal to flip the fuck out over DE/OLB rankings going in the DL thread. Thats fucking preposterous!! I like TGG too. That would be why I came back after a year. You take yourself entirely too seriously for someone so transparently lame...and please stop thinking "lol, if you actually WATCHED" an actual argument...it's not. I didn't come up with my theories on Dunlap by imagining what I want to think about him...he's overrated as hell and not someone I consider a high end player or worthy of being a top pick. Upside is nice, but it doesn't actually mean anything if it doesn't happen.
