No. I love sports and football, and I hate Bill Simmons. He's a scumbag human being outside of his writing and knows little to nothing about sports outside of the NBA. He skates by on pop culture references. That's unfortunately what passes for insight and commentary in a lot of arenas these days. It's great for Family Guy, but it makes Bill Simmons an absolute failure IMO.
A replay of last years Super Bowl would absolutely disprove everything this guy wrote. BTW we won so fuck him...
Reading Simmons columns is like reading the NY Post. You're not going to get a whole lot of insight and analysis, but it's a great bathroom read. Seriously though, what exactly makes him a scumbag in real life? And this is the first time I'm hearing about his "racist" side.
Fair enough...I actually really like him. I think his evaluation of New York teams is actually pretty sound, though I thought he was way off base about the Jets on Friday. But the great thing about him is that his biases are kind of the point--He's a fan.
He's not the greatest football mind out there or anything but the man knows how to write, is consistently entertaining, and changed the field of sportswriting leading the way for the blog movement. I'm quite a big fan of Bill Simmons. That said, he could not be more off base with this column. In the first 3 playoff games, the team that runs the ball better and plays better defense has won all 3. Sexy passing stats have never translated into playoff success, and there's no reason to think that the trend will change now. Defense, physical play, and clock control are the blueprint for playoff success and that's not gonna change.
Nice to see Simmons went 0-4 in his playoffs picks this weekend. I got a laugh when both the Ravens and Jets won, it made me think of his "new rules" column. I'd love to hear the dirt on Simmons as well. He's an entertaining writer, but I surely don't take him (or Easterbrook) seriously. Here is more insight than you'll get from that last Simmons column: The Jets are 5-0 when Sanchez throws less than 20 passes. I looked that one up myself. :breakdance:
