I think the Jets have been missing out on an important opportunity to get some quick safe scores and increase Sanchez effectiveness. Sanchez and Schotty look for Edwards too much and the defense knows it. Cincy, in particular, we'll be keying on Edwards because of their familiarity with him at Cleveland. I don't know why the Jets can't send 3 guys deep more consistently...Edwards to the left, Keller down the center, and Clowney down the right. Edwards or Keller are likely to draw the safety, especially if Mark throws a pump fake that way. If Clowney has single coverage and a step, Sanchez can hit him and more importantly, Clowney will catch it! (I wouldn't waste any more deep throws on Edwards because he has trouble with those--but I would send him deep as a decoy.) I'd like to see the Jets start with good field position, up across the 35, and run a 1st or 2nd down flea-flicker. Bengals will be keying on the run, and Mark should be able to exploit it for a deep gain--if he's throwing to the right guy and there are other receivers in the pattern drawing the safety away.
I've been saying it all season. It's the easiest way to make it clear for a young QB who's nervous about making a mistake. Flood the deep zones, throw to the guy with single coverage.
I agree with you...I just don't think Sanchez is there yet with his experience level. Plus the CS has said it all year..."we're a running team".......I don't expect them to veer away from that formula...especially when it's been so successful.
The passing will come eventually, I do believe if we need a 2 minute drill game winning drive Mark can step up. He's been throwing great short crisp passes. You do realize it's George Sauer Jr. right? Is that a reference to you being Sour that we haven't been back yet?
Clowney is obviously the fastest WR on the team and we hardly use him. Throwing a TD deep pass from mid-field would be safe in my opinion even if it gets picked off since the field position wouldn't be good for the other team. But I don't think it would be picked off if Clowney is running it deep.
Wasn't Clowney inactive last week? I don't think the coaching staff is too high on him, as he is not a good practice player. I would love to see some deep passes to him, though
man, in the pre-season this man sanchez was looking off safeties, going trough progressions, and had great balance when he threw ... what the hell happened?
The reason they can't do this is because it takes Jerrico Cotchery off the field and he's the Jets best player on offense after Mangold. You don't win games by taking your best players off the field. Assuming you meant a 3 WR, 1 TE formation then that's tipping the pass which is a great way to get your rookie QB to throw an Int.
This is the craziest statement in this thread. Clowney's hands are solid. I think I've only ever seen him miss one catch, and that's because Sanchez seemed to throw it a little too far out of his reach. I still think Clowney could've laid out for it though. Anyway, when I watch Clowney go up for the ball, he's got the fundamentals down to a tee. Looks the ball in all the way through, brings his arms in tight when it's caught, doesn't try to make a play before he's got the ball. As far as catching skills go, Clowney is far more consistant. I'm not saying that he has more raw talent than Edwards, but your comment is absurd.
Clowney has great feet too- That's where his nickname Clowney Shoes came from. Juking guys of out of their cleats-
In what the OP is suggesting, I would believe Jericho would be running a blanket route if no one is singled deep or are covered well. 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB.
I don't think we use the clown enough. He is probably a nuisance to Rex which hurts his PT, but Clowney has tools to be a solid slot receiver. Give him the rock a couple of times.
Rember the monday night game in Miami? fuck gotta find that video of Clowney catching that deep ball.
