Did my mock on this draft web site. I really like the player's selected for most of the teams. I'm still hoping Heyward declares and is available to the Jets, maybe wishful thinking. This is my 3rd ..rd 1 Mock and they get a little easier fitting players with team needs and who's available. I will do a 2nd rd mock next month. Comments welcome!! http://draftdebacled.com/PublishedDraft.aspx?mdid=4982
I like everything except for the Colts' pick. They really need to draft defensive players. Reggie Wayne is one of the best wideouts in the game. Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon have emerged this season. Dallas Clark is at the top of the league when it comes to receiving tight ends...there's no one better except for Antonio Gates. The Colts need a defensive tackle more than most teams in this league. (Oh yea, I laughed when I saw Bruce Campbell's picture because he's definitely not a white guy)
My question marks: 4. Redskins - QB S. Bradford Although I think it'll be a possible pick too what do you think about the idea of the Redskins keeping Campbell and filling other needs? I think Campbell could fit very well in Shanahan's offense and his biggest problem was changing OC every year or playing in Zorn's offense which doesn't match well with his talent. He would finally get stability with the Shanahans coming in and the Redskins could either trade this pick to a team that badly wants Bradford or use it to upgrade it's awful O-line. Plus Braford has some question marks about arm strength and you need that in Shanahan's schemes. He'd be a good fit for the Seahawks IMO. One year to re-hab + adapt to NFL speed in am O scheme that fits him. Cleveland also if they part with Quinn. 5. Chiefs - SS E. Berry I think they go OT and get Okung to protect their 60+ mill investment. 8. Raiders - FS Mays I know Al is an idiot but how many safeties can he draft? I agree he'll look at the 40 times but he'll go with some DL or OL stud (in his opinion, like Griffen). 9. Buffalo Bills - ILB McClain Bills are going to have an O minded coach. With all the holes they have in the O-line if they don't get an OT they are mad! Brown, Davis and Campbell fall too much in your draft IMO. 21 - Jets - DE C. Heyward If he declares he'll never drop this much. Why take Spiller when you have Forsett? Tate over Williams? Another WR in SD? Morgan falls so much? Peyton getting another WR? My problem with your mock is you seem to undervalue positional value too much and just look at BPA and position of need for the team. For example... I agree the Bills need an ILB but they have no O-line at all! Even if McClain is a dominant player I'd be real surprised if they don't draft an OT first. Same with KC... look at what the did last year drafting Jackson at DE in front of Curry at LB. Curry was clearly the better player but at a less important position...
I had a Safety going to the Colts in my last mock, not much value for a S in late rd 1. I like the idea of Lafell being added to Indy's offense, it may not be the biggest need, I was torn on Indy's pick. A DT is a definite possibility...good point. My mock is published for all on the site to view, we'll see what comment are left from other fans around the league.
4. Shanny will want his QB and he's very high on Bradford...that's a fact. 5. KC needs OT badly, but you don't pass on Berry. 8. Al Davis is..Al Davis. 9. McClain is the BPA available and a need. If Billick is coach, even with his offensive mind, he understands the need for defensive playmakers. The Bills have many holes, can't fill them in rd 1. No OT on the board is clearly better than McClain. I'd take my chances and maybe get a Jason Fox in rd 2. 21...I said it was wishful thinking...it's too early to tell.
Check your sources, Mr. E. Colts have four wide outs I'd love to see on the Jets. If they go offense in round one, which is very unlikely, it'll be o-line. I don't think Spags will pass on Suh. QB is a bigger need than DT on that team, but a defensive coach can't pass up the opportunity to draft one of the best d-line prospects in recent memory.
Pretty good overall, I just don't buy the whole Tim Tebow to the Jags thing. I don't see why people would go to Jags games to watch Tebow sit on the bench. He would probably be there in the second round anyway.
Well I was going to make a thread about that website but I see you beat me to it I would think the Bills, seahawks chiefs early on would take some variation of Okung. Brown, Davis and Campbell. Not sure about the Browns taking Joe Haden. Love the seahawks second first round pick, amazing steal. I disagree with the Giants taking an ILB even if Pierce does leave they need secondary help really really badly (earl Thomas perhaps). Or a DT Obviously Heyward pick is awesome I consider Ras-I Dowling from Virginia over Nate Allen and maybe over Perish Cox, still deciding I don't think Golden Tate is ahead of Damian Williams Also I dont think Derrick Morgan slips that low
I think too many of you guys are reaching for OT's. I agree the Bills and KC need O-Line help. But you don't pass up Berry or McClain which are needs, for an OT that isn't highly regarded. McClain and Berry are head & shoulders better players than any OT in this draft. The best of the OT's in this draft are 2nd tier players (10-20).....no Joe Thomas'. Okung is very overrated!
right thats true the tackles are overrated but like someone stated earlier its about need and positional value. McClain and Berry are amazing prospects but OT's are such are so valuable (especially when you don't have one) that it means teams will pass on better talent to fill a need. Its the same logic as to why one would put Jimmy Claussen ahead of Suh.
St Louis needs a QB, they need a face for their franchise. I look at that situation differently than a 2nd tier tackle over Berry. Believe me, passing on Suh would be difficult. St Louis has invested alot of money on their D-Line. I was the one who started the thread saying if I was a GM it would be tough to pass by Suh. There is alway two ways to look at our POVs.....neither is right or wrong. I feel strongly that you don't reach for a 2nd tier OT, when Berry or McClain also a need is available when your team is OTC. KC and Buffalo got themselves into their O-line troubles, it isn't going to be solved with one pick. A good OT will be available in rd 2...Capers, Fox etc. What 2 players would you rather have for KC? Rd 1...Berry Rd 2.....Fox or Rd 1...Okung Rd 2...Burnett or Allen I think the choice is clear.
It's so hard to predict what you're gonna get with a QB. If you're gonna invest all that money in a player, I would think a team would wanna invest in a player they feel is a can't miss
St. Louis has selected a couple of offensive tackles in the last few years: Baylor's Jason Smith and Florida State's Alex Barron. Barron has been horrible pick so far. Everyone knows that Ndamukong Suh is the best player in the draft, but the Rams have a ton of money invested into their defensive line. Chris Long and Adam Carriker are making a lot of money. If you look at that team, their biggest hole is at quarterback. They were starting Keith Null...something's broken if your best option at QB is Keith Null.
St Louis is faced with a dilemma Suh is the next dominant DT but they need a QB badly and there is really nothing out there except maybe Jason Campbell Regardless it's either Suh or Clausen
That's a good fucking point. Spags faced Campbell when he was the defensive coordinator for the Giants. I wonder what he thinks of him? Shanahan has already said he plans on keeping Jason Campbell, but he might be available for trade...especially if Shanahan wants to bring in a new QB. With Spags being a defensive coach, he may just want a game manager. Jason Campbell is definitely a game manager.
Holy **** I checked up Campbell's stats and they were very good this year. Over 3600 yards, a 86.4 QB rating, 20 TD, 15 INT. If Washington does let him go due to Shanny wanting his own QB the Rams have to sign him and draft Suh Just let Campbell manage the game
I think best case scenario for St. Louis is to hope a team like Tampa would want to leapfrog Detroit to get Suh, pick up an extra pick or two and then take Claussen at 3.
