I know this is really an unneccessary thread at this juncture in the season but im a little concerned by the overall giddyness around here over this last week. Do not take this at all in the wrong way, as i myself have been on a crazy high ever since making the playoffs despite being left for dead after the falcons game. Its f*cken awesome to be in the playoffs & and even greater that we've gotten there behind the leadership of a beloved rookie coach and rising rookie qb. However, playing devil's advocate for a second, although each & every one of us is dreaming the dream that this could finally be the year, in all likelihood this playoff run is going to come crashing down wether it be this saturday or the next. I guess my point is that i know from history that jets fans have no middle ground. Big wins are superbowl like & bad losses are often armageddon around here. While our defense is spectacular, our offense is far from elite & therefore, barring a miraculous playoff run, 2010-2012 is a more realistic super bowl winning oppurtunity for this taleneted yet raw roster. So just as a friendly reminder, lets not get to carried away by one bad play, a bad series, or a bad quarter. This team is very talented & deserves the oppurtinity to get a couple of cracks at this thing in the near future. I guess the calvin pace appreciation thread says it all. We have some major man crushes goin on with half our roster right now. Lets not allow a likely playoff exit to muddle the bigger goal down the road...
I don't think many people are dreaming the dream that this could finally be the year - I think most people on this board are more realistic. Losing to the Bengals will be a disappointment, even though the game will be much tougher than last week's - but losing to the Chargers or Colts the week after would not be a big surprise. Anything is possible, but the main thing here is that the Jets are getting some playoff experience and that's always important. It should stand Sanchez in great stead for next year.
Personally, I would not be surprised if the Cinci team this Saturday is the complete opposite of the one we faced last week. So no over giddyness here because we posted 37! Playoffs are a clean slate where anything can happen so lets see what we can do!
what's wrong with hoping for teh best, and putting all of our vested interest in routing for the best possible outcome. The future is all well and good, but aside from a few rookies (HC, QB) we have a veteran teasm built to win now. GO JETS!!!
I can accept the Jets losing if we are beaten due to superior Begal execution; not making bone-headed plays, errors, and key penalties and making it very easy for them to beat us. If I get the feeling everybody on our side went all out and it just wasn't enough, I can live with that. However, I think if we play smart, really play hard, and execute, I think we will get the W. I just don't think Cincy stacks up well with us.
People here bitch and whine when we win--about the crowd, the telecast, the pretzels, whatever. You know the sky will fall and the rivers will rise if we lose, and TGG will want to fire Schotty.
The Jets are underdogs at Cincinnati for a reason: they really should lose, assuming that the Bengals curse does not outweigh theirs. I'm just happy to have a game to watch on Saturday and assuming the Jets don't get blown out and it's competitive then it's just a positive thing. If they win they win. If they don't, well that's what you expect out of a 9-7 team with a rookie QB. I'll admit that if the Jets go away from the run because they're not having success early I'll be pissed. This team would have gone 11-5 this year if the coaching staff hadn't had it's head so far up it's (filler) on several occasions this year. Sanchez would be a much happier guy right now and his future would be brighter if somebody hadn't gotten way ahead of themselves.
The experience for the younger guys on the team will be invaluable in my opinion. The game this sat is going to be a really good game the lower scoring it is obviously the better off it is for the Jets
IMO, winning this game exceeds my expectations of this season, we should be able to win this game as long as we can stop the run, and avoid TOs (mainly INTs) Sanchez doesn't turn the ball over more then 1 time and efficiently makes timely throws to move the chains I don't see why we can't win this game, we've played well on the road this year so I don't see the "6th Man" being a huge factor ... I'm looking at Cotch to really step up help Sanchez move the chains, this is the type of game that really shows how valuable Cotchery is to the team, very reliable hands he's definitely my go to guy in this game if we need a big time 3rd down play
Man, you never when you gonna have a chance to win the whole damm thing. Its not gonna be a year we expect it, nothing wrong with a little day dreaming. Its all gravy AFTER we beat the Bengals. They have sucked for 6 weeks, I expect us to beat them. I will be really bummed if we lose, sucidal no, ready to fire everyone, no, but I want at least one playoff win.
It'd be really important for all the young guys in the team to get this win against the Bengals. After that I'm ok with whatever happens... but this first game I really want to win. Especially because, like GreenHornet said, we matchup well with the Bengals...
Basically if they lose to a superior team it's acceptable. If they lose because of SOJ then it's not .
this is what makes us the best and sometimes the worst fans in the league.ithats said i've stated in another thread,i feel we are playing with house money from here on out.however, the optimism for next season is off the freakin charts right now.
Honestly, while I am insanely hopeful and absolutely love this coach and team, I am realistic, and no matter what happens I think this season will be a resounding success and indicates many successful years ahead. I am thoroughly happy with this team win or lose this year. With that said, let's kick some ass in the playoffs! Once you're in the dance anything's possible!
Why should the Jets lose? The Bengals had an easier schedule and 1 more win..big deal. The Jets also beat them the first time around by 37 points.
