I have to say it. I really didn't think the kid had it in him to come out tonight, in the bitter cold, and play as well as he did. Yeah, the gameplan kept it real simple but on the throws he made, he was on the money except maybe for two of them. Edwards had his customary drop on a sure TD pass and forgot to turn around on a flanker screen but for the most part, even when SoCal was moving, the passes were on target. He even drew an encroachment penalty by staggering his cadence. Bottom line? This kid is learning fast and next year, I highly doubt we see the same 12td/20pick kid we saw this season. He proved tonight that yes, he can play in Winter in the NE. Kudos to the SoCal Kid!!
He managed the game well and didn't make any mistakes, which is all I can ask for of a young rookie QB. The potential is there, so 2010 should be fun.
Let's hope he does it again next week in Cincy. We're looking at temperatures in the low to mid 20's and wind chills in the 0 range. Not as cold as the Cincy-San Diego playoff game in the early 80's at Cincy, but cold nevertheless.
I would not call that a drop on Edwards, it was a wobbly ball in the wind, and maybe it was Sanchez who made the mistake of throwing it to Edwards. but yes, sanchez impressed me
This was Mark's rookie year. Prolly the worst we will ever see him play. Think about that and the future looks awesome. :up:
It was a great win & it was awesome that Sanchez went up into the stands after the game to show his appreciation that they stayed 'till the end & froze their butts off. Also, Rex Ryan, frozen with Gatorade, stayed after to high 5 the fans, is pure high class. The fans deserved it...Dungy said the wind chill was -7. Go Jets!!! Get it done next week!
I would. It was by no means a perfect ball, but Edwards pulled up too soon and had it hit him in the hands. Blame on both sides for that one.
Sanchez was great tonight, but how did he impress? He had under 70 yards passing. He did his job, which he hasnt done most of the year. Nice to see the kid learning! NOW LETS DO IT AGAIN NEXT WEEK!!
i wouldnt go praising him over this game. he didnt do very much of anything. he didnt need to. however he sure as hell didnt show he could make the throws he needs to in a tough game. he didnt give me any confidence that if the running game gets stopped he can do it. he also threw at least 1 ball directly to a defender. i will give him credit that he didnt put the ball on the ground. but i am not going much further than that. there will be a time he needs to step up and i have no faith he can and will do it.
The only improvement I've seen from Sanchez this year is that the coaching staff finally decided to stop him from sabotaging dominating offensive line play and an amazing defense. The guy had 60 yards passing. Brad Smith was more productive on a handful of running plays that he was in there for. It's great that the Jets won the last 2 but Sanchez has thrown for 169 yards combined with a YPA under 5. Don't think I'm being too prophetic by saying that at some point in the playoffs the Jets are going to need a play or plays from the QB position and from what we've seen there's no chance in hell of Sanchez giving it to them.
get used to it....this is the recipe for success that Rex wanted to employ from the get-go.....and I for one, think it's great....Sanchez doesn't need to throw for 400 yrds and 5 TDs...he's not there yet in his development. The Jets have proven they can still win despite that.
In all honesty, I could not be more excited for the future of the Jets. This team is going to be scary in the upcoming years..... We all know that the defense is going to be top tier with Ryan as our HC. It's the offense that has been holding this team back. Once Sanchez matures and learns the ropes of what its like to be a QB in the NFL, this offense is going to take off and this team is going to be elite, for a long time. Sanchez threw 20 INTs this season, but also threw for 2500 yards and 13 TDs. The only thing that this tells me is that he is a rookie who isn't afraid to throw the football. He will learn, and he will get better. Much better. We can take it for what it is at this moment. He's a rookie, and I don't expect too much from him for the remainder of the season, aides from ball security. However, while we're on this rollercoaster, and now that this "all-weather" team has made it into the playoffs with a very convincing win, I can't wait to see the Jets fuck the Bengals up again on Saturday. GO JETS!
So why wasn't it employed from the get-go? He didn't win any games throwing the ball all around the field and he lost several games doing just that. I obviously agree that handcuffing him is the right thing to do now, but I'm just not sure where all the optimism comes from that this guy is going to turn into a great QB a couple years down the line.
Does anybody think the Bengals won't go with 9 and even 10 men in the box next Saturday ? Sanchez is gonna have to throw for 200 yards next week...lets see if he can do it with most/all of his receivers in 1-on-1 coverage.
Same wet blankets as usual. Yeah he had 60 yards he only threw what? 15-20 times? Mostly screens/ play action in frigid conditions. Pretty much every throw was right on the money and there were no yips in his biggest game yet. I know, I know having tempered enthusiasm is bullshit. Seeing that a rookie QB improved and showed he can play in a frigid game and not fuck it up and have the team win, crazy. Especially, from a Jet fans. 5 weeks ago Sanchez couldnt even manage that. Another thing that looked improved was his play action fakes.......That is about time in coming.
