Brees and Rivers are excellent you're not really going to compare two QB's who arguably had the most talent on both sides of the football for years and did squat to Manning are you? You're knock on Manning is he can't win the big one which he did yet Brees failed to take an outright loaded SD to the playoffs and Rivers has had the best team in football for 3 years now and hasn't won the big one. What has Brady won since the NE D has become a middle of the pack D like the Colts always have? How many SB has Brady won since the Pats have been built around him? Brady hasn't won big in January since he had a big time D and running game. Comparing Edelman to Welker and calling Welker over rated is laughable at this point. 8 for 98 isn't the same as 15 for 192. In fact it's about half as good.
I am talking about THIS year w/ those guys. They have been to the Peyton manning school of playoff choking and need to get over that to be up there w/ Brady and Ben but in this season Brees has been better and Rivers right there w/ him. All 3 have alot to prove in January though. Brady led a team to a 16-0 record 2 years ago, he was hurt last year and was knocking off the rust this year. NE was a franchise heading in the wrong direction before Brady stepped on the field and rescued that organization and that HC. if not for Brady Belichick would be someone's DC right now. Brady had a big running game for ONE of his 3 SB titles and ONE of his 4 SB apps. Manning always had better RBs w/ Edge, Addai and co. and he always had MUCH better weapons to throw to than Brady. So Welker averages 15 for 192? or does he average around 8-10? That was a very un-Welker like game as he actually had over 10 yds a rec. Edelman did everything Welker typically does in a game, we didn't beat NE b/c Welker didn't play and let's not forget Calvin pace didn't play for us sp stop w/ the excuses.
It's also arguable that Brady lost the biggest game of his career. With everything on the line and a shot at NFL immortality he and the rest of the team choked. You can also say that Brady hasn't won anything of importance since his team was exposed as cheaters.
He led his team 80 yds for the go ahead TD in the Super Bowl in the final minutes, name me the playoff loss that Peyton has ever led his O to tying or go ahead points in the finl minutes only to watch his D blow it? His team was exposed for cheating and he led them to 15 straight wins after they were exposed and a SB berth.
Are the Pats this year going to have a better record with Brady than they did last year with Cassell? I would think making that argument would be at best stupid almost as stupid as comparing Edelman to Welker which you did. Really dumb argument by the way. The guy has had three straight years with over 100 catches and 1000 yards. Clearly you have a man crush on Brady and Welker is Brady's go to guy. The Pats won SB when they had both a great D and a very good mistake free QB. As the Pats D has declined and Brady has been asked to do more his mistakes in big games have gone up and the Pats haven't won. Not that disimiliar to the Colts although the Colts have always asked Manning to carry them.
Nope but they played a MUCH tougher schedule and Brady was coming back from a serious injury. Clearly I can seperate my hate for Brady and the Pats while most jet fans cannot. They think it's safe to choose Manning b/c he has great fantasy #s and b/c NE is a div rival and we are jealous of NE's success. Welker is a good WR, he's nopt great and nowhere near the best in the game although his rec totals would indicate otherwise. NE didn't lose to us in week 2 b/c Welker didn't play and they didn't beat us b/c he did play. The Pats D played great in one postseason- 2001 and they still tried to blow the SB by allowing SL to score 2 late TDs until Brady led one of the greatest drives in the history of the SB to save them.
It was one of the greatest drives in SB history. He lost in the SB to one of the greatest drives in SB history when the greatest O in NFL history with him at QB put 14 points on the board as Payton's little brother lead the greatest drive in SB history to make him the QB of the biggest choke in SB history. That was one year removed from Payton Manning bitching him in the AFC finals with one of the greatest performances in NFL history. See how hyperbole works.
The 2001 SB against SL was one of the greatest drives in SB history. The drive he led against the Giants was a great drive and should have won them their 4th Super Bowl. You can call his SB performance a choke but AGHAIN he led his team to an 80 yd TD drive in the final minutes to give his team a 4 point lead. Peyton has NEVER done that and the 14 pts he led them to was better than the AVERAGE for peyton in playoff losses. Peyton "bitched him" in 2006, imagine Peyton playing w/ Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney as his starting WRs. Brady still put up 27 in the loss, Peyton put up a total of 17 in the 2 losses to NE in 2003 and 2004. Peyton had a great half in that 2006 title game,m his only good half all postseason long as his D and running game carried him to a SB.
With two weeks to prepare the Giants stopped the best O in NFL history the most prolific scoring O in NFL history held them to 14 points. It was without question the single biggest choke in NFL post season history eclipsing the Jets upset of the Colts who at least had the excuses of being known as a defensive team. You can spin the great drive all you want. He underperformed didn't put enough points on the board with an all time great Offensive team. That my boy is a choke of epic proportions which you can't spin away. One drive doesn't make a career especially when it doesn't get it done. Nice excuse for Brady sucking to point out his only decent play in a 60 minute game. Your point about the running game carrying the Colts is the argument of a statistician who has no clue about the game of football. Watch the Baltimore playoff game the one where Payton Manning had bad stats but pushed both safeties and the CB's 10 to 15 yards off the LOS the entire second half of the game. Something you probably missed and the reason they were able to run the ball successfully against that D.
To be fair, a bunch of teams have played the Jets without a no. 1 receiver (prior to Edwards' arrival) or without our all-pro NT and pro-bowl RB/KR (thereafter). We're not the only team to get a break here and there and not all of our luck has been good.
We just play that hand that is dealt to us. It does seem (and I have listened to this crap for a LONG time) when we have bad games and/or bad luck, thats to be expected..."thats the Jets for ya" but when we play well, have a bit of luck or beat a good team, well then all you hear is..."the refs gave them the game, or the other team wouldn't lost if..." Now the NFL is giving us a free pass to the playoffs? We get in, so be it. Dont really care what anybody is whining about, we get to play another week and Im ecstatic. A great consolation for some of the heart-breaking losses this year. No apologies from me!!! We lose this week and the ridicule will be twice as bad as the whining were getting right now!
That is a bigger choke than 3 times w/ a bye losing at home in the div rd? ok. He did underperform in that game but w/ the game on the line he found a way to lead his team 80 yds for the go ahead TD. Peyton has NEVER done that. peyton would have packed it in or ended that drive w/ an INT. Ah yes the Peyton excuses. I watched the game, peyton was horible, he kept Baltimore in the game., You can use the "he opened up the running game" excuse all you want(as if Brady doesn't do that either) but anyone who watched that postseason will tell you Peyton was along for the ride w/ the exception of that 2nd half against NE which they wouldn't have needed if he wasn't so horrible in the 1st half. You do realize that Peyton opened up the ground game that ran for 2.967 YPC against Baltimore, right? and that was w/ a 25 yard run by rhodes. In the 2nd half Indy had 5 carries over 4 yards(25, 8, 6, 5, 5), they had 4 carries for zero gain or negative yds(0, -1, -3, , -1). Yeah, he really opened things up by pushing the Safeties back. What's the next excuse?
They went into Baltimore and they dominated them and defeated them and they crushed the Pats who basically went into fetal position with the game on the line. I don't love Payton Manning but I respect the fact that he is the single best QB of this generation who has been asked to carry a mediocre team year after year and basically has done it. Brady has been great no doubt one of the best QB's in the league. The reality is the more he has been asked to carry the Pats the more mistakes he has made and the worse he has been. The Pats have clearly had the better over all team almost every year since Payton has been around. The Pats got the same amount of wins last year that they are likely to get this year with Matt Cassell at QB. I have no doubt at all if you switched Brady and Manning that Brady would likely have no SB and Manning likely 4 or 5. Your beef with Payton is he choked in big spots early in his career yet you give Brady a pass for choking in Denver, choking in SD but getting lucky after he was picked off, sucking in the SB with the best O in league history and going fetal in the AFC championship game when it was on the line and Payton bitched him.
Explain to me how one dominates w/o ever scoring a TD? Manning was 15-30 for 170 w/ 0 TDs and 2 INTs, his 2 RBs combined for 32 carries for 95 yds(2.97 YPC), they only had the ball 3 more mins than Bal. How did they dominate? Explain to me how a team crushed the4 Pats when they won by 4 pts? I respect manning too, he's just not as good as Brady. He's had elite offensive talent around him his entire career and defenses that were much better than manning apologists would like to acknowledge. The Colts D has allowed less than 2 PPG more in their playoff games than the "great" NE D that Brady has had. Brady had Antowain Smith as his top back for 2 SBs, when has Manning ever had an Antowain Smith as his starting RB? Brady had Troy Brown as his top WR, he would have been AT BEST a 3rd WR for Indy. Please stop w/ the mediocre team nonsesne. Dan Marino had mediocre talent around him, Peyton Manning has had elite talent(relative to this generation) around him most of his career. I have no doubt if you switched the QBs Indy would have 3-4 SBs and NE would be lucky if they had 1. All of manning's awaful TOs would have destroyed that "great" defense and the his choking performances in January would have sunk them as well. Peyton lost alot of winnable postseason games that a clutch guy like Brady never would have lost or at the very least he would have given them a much better shot to win. Early in his career? i guess last season's WC game is now early in his career? I guess 2 seasons ago in the div rd is early in his career? Going fetal in the AFC Title game by leading his O to 27 pts while the great peyton has only led his O to 20+ pts ONCE in a playoff loss and never as much as 27. Keep the excuses rolling.
We are getting two gomme games at the end of the season, but they make up for a few losses earlier in the season that should never have happened. Most notably the first buffalo and second Miami game. So I look at it as scheduling justice.
The way I look at the Colts game is this. Manning played until the middle of the 3rd quarter. How may times in his career has he thrown at least 3 touchdown passes during that time period or even more. I didn't look it up, but I am sure the number is quite high. The Colts were leading 15 to 10 when Manning and others were removed. Until that point we had held them to 15 points and that is pretty darn good. I think it was obvious to the coach that the Colts would have to play their "A" ball for 60 minutes to have the opportunity (not guarantee) to beat us. We were playing hard and smashing people around. It was entirely possible that someboday key to their team could have been injured. I know this can happen any time, but the were playing the #1 defense and we were playing hard. I think we faught hard enough to make them consider pulling key talent. That is where I think the Jets deserve the credit. Once the key players came out of the game we clearly made the most of the situation as you would expect us to if we were serious about doing what we had to do fighting for the playoffs. I am not saying what the Indy coach did was the right thing to do in terms of competitiveness, but when you consider the allure of the "Perfect Season" vs. being healthy to go deep into the playoffs then I understand why the Indy coach did it. Indy had home field sewn up and when one cosiders the intensity level we were displaying on the field, even though we were losing at the time, I do not think what happened detracted from the value of the win.
