A very slim chance of getting the 3 seed, I think.

We would get the 6th seed if all of the following happened, and the Steelers or Dolphins would get the 5th seed.

    Dolphins lose to Steelers (vise/versa)
    Pittsburgh defeats Miami (vise/versa)

    Heres what must happen:

    Ravens lose to Raiders
    Houston lose to Patriots
    Jaguars lose to Browns
    Denver loses to the Chiefs

I think all these upsets are entirely possible. The Raiders are the Upset Kings. The Patriots will obviously rock Houston. Browns are on a 3 game winning streak. Broncos lost to the Raiders so losing to the Chiefs isn't out of the range of a possibility.

If one of those teams win though, we MUST win against the Bengals or else we are out.

Also the Bengals will have absolutely nothing to play for if the Patriots win. The Bengals winning would actually give the Steelers a chance to get in, and after talking to Bengals fans they would actually want to lose just to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs.

The Jets can lose on Sunday and still get in by other means.

Planes have to crash carrying various teams. In addition, the Bubonic Plague needs to strike the cities of Denver, Pittsburgh and Miami simultaneously and the city of Baltimore needs to be struck by either the Plague or a Sunami Wave of unheard-of proportions.

benefit to being the third seed is what? you get to play the sixth seed team right... so theres not much at stake for them at all.

Exactly. I can't see them keeping their starters in for a game that means so little to them against a team that is almost certain to face them again in the playoffs if they play hard and lose. Better for them to sit their guys, play a more vanilla attack and let the Jets show their hand for the next game.

i think you have it confused...i think the plague has to hit the cities of Denver, Pittsburgh, and Miami simultaneously OR the city of Baltimore needs to be struck by either the Plague or a Tsunami Wave of unheard - proportions.

this is what is reported by the playoff generator

Seriously, if we were to lose to Cincy this Sunday, we can still get in if H1N1 strikes the training facilities of Cincy after we lose to them.

Come on, let's not rule out all the possibilities.

there's also a chance the economy strikes and bankrupts the rest of the NFL

the playoff calculator has stated that would have the Jets as Superbowl Champions

Are the Jets definitely out if they lose?

Probably not, but I'm out for this year if they lose, the body and soul can only take so much abuse of this type before it's time to go home and wait for the crappy draft next year.

Edit: just checked and they are out if they lose. They cannot beat out Denver and the winner of the Pitt/Miami game. Denver has them stone cold on tiebreakers at 8-8 and the winner of the Pitt/Miami game is going to be 9-7 or 8-8 with the tiebreaker.

sorry, but you're wrong. read some of the earlier posts and they're accurate. especially the one by revis and harris.

if we win, we're in as 5th seed. there's no scenario where we get in even if we lose. we lose, we don't go. simple as that.

there's a scenario another poster mentioned earlier about us getting in with a tie, and that's also possible, i wouldn't even go there.
