Or could they get in by other means? I just want to know who to root for as I watch games during the day.
There are so many explanation of this even on this first page. They lose, they're out. They win, they're in. Root for the Jets and nothing else matters.
if they lose they arent necessarily out. We would need every 8-7 team to lose also except for one i guess. Also would need miami and jax to lose. So yea basically we arent going to be that lucky 3 weeks in a row with our opponents.
Wrong... if the Jets lose, they are out. The only reason the Bengals scenario works is that it is the dream scenario, where we would own a tie breaker due to the Broncos and Ravens both losing to Cincy (common opponents), and the teams that lost on Sunday that we needed to lose all owned tie breakers over us. We lose, and I don't think we own a tie breaker over ANY team.
Not true. If we lose, there are no scenarios that would let us in. Mostly because of this game: PIT vs. MIA If we lose, one of those teams would be ahead of us for sure. At 8-8, we lose the tie breaker to an 8-8 Denver (tie on record, confererence, common opponents, but lose on strength of victory). Hence, PIT/MIA and DEN would be in ahead of us and we would miss the playoffs.
Its win and in, lose and out.The Steelers and Miami are playing each other. So if we lose we're out. If Steelers win, they have a better record than the Jets. If Miami wins, obviously they have tiebreakers against us.
Although there are apparently some convoluted scenarios where a tie could get us in, but I don't want to even think about that!
Correct. There is not way we lose and make it, but if we win we are in. Thats all that matters this weekend.
If the Jets lose? Nah they are still in as long as Miami, Pittsbrgh, Jags, Broncos, Ravens, Texans, and Bengals all lose.
You are joking right?? You do realize that Pitt plays Miami- Cleveland and Oakland would have to win. Either way it's win or we are out. lol
Do tell........ Are you kidding? I take the internetz seerioos. The Jets are definitely in if the Steelers, Fins, Ravens, Broncos, Texans and Bengals lose? Amirite?
Ha, then my understanding of the tie-break is wrong. I thought it came down to common opponents on this one.
