I read in the Daily News that in order for Lito's extension to kick in, we have to give him a 13 million dollar bonus. That's not happening. So what do you guys think we should do about CB2? Draft one in the first or sign a FA maybe?

I could easily see him come back on a much cheaper, incentive heavy deal.

he can come back but he was injured way too often and his play has not been consistent.

I think he'll be back on a cheaper deal. I doubt he sees that money, but in an uncapped year, I don't think they'll let him go because they don't want to pay him.

    I agree on both points.

The other important thing to note is that Darrelle Revis has 33 passes defended this year. There's no way he gets that number of balls thrown his way if the other side isn't holding up their end of the bargain. No way.

Sheppard has played in 10 games this year and Revis has 5 Int's and 24 PD's in those 10 games. In the 5 games Sheppard was out Revis has 1 Int and 9 PD's. People are throwing at Revis more and making riskier throws when Sheppard is covering somebody opposite him.

    Great stat!

The problem with Sheppard is that we can't count on him to play that much, which is why he probably won't see that big money. Lito is good, but he doesn't stay healthy enough, so we'll probably need to draft another corner because Lowery and Strickland are good nickel backs, but neither can be counted on to start opposite Revis right now.

The other option is to improve the pass rush to make the cornerback problem less noticeable. That's the route I would choose.

We'll give him the Vilma treatment. We won't re-up him, but we'll bring him back.

I don't know if it will be Sheppard, but the Jets definitely need to have a good CB opposite Revis. If they don't have one, it makes Revis less valuable because QB's just won't throw it his way. That's why I think CB is a bigger need than Safety.

he should not be paid starter money because frankly he does not do a good enough job to be handed the second corner back spot

I think he's been a solid player for us. I'd like us to bring him back with a cheaper deal, afterall, we do have the #1 pass D in the NFL and it can't ALL be because of Revis. Sheppard has played well.

I would let him go, he has sucked most of the time in my opinion. I would love to see an upgrade.

If he does stay, we can call our CB combo Revis and Butthead.
Alright, maybe that's not that funny but it's late, give me a break.

Great stats and very telling thanks. If the Jets make the other side that easy to throw against the Jets are essentially neutralizing Revis without the game being played. That would be monumentally stupid.

Tanny will cut him so he doesn't have to give up anything to Philly. Also, just because the season is uncapped doesn't mean the money is unlimited. Tanny's a smart guy when it comes to finances(Gholston contract notwithstanding) and he is not going to overpay someone when that money could be used on a much more useful player.

Please elaborate, if there is a certain kind of cap in an uncapped year, such as a luxury tax or something like that. I always thought uncapped meant unlimited just like in premiership soccer in the UK where Man United has dominated for a couple of decades nows. I don't like the idea of uncapped but we have no control over it.

Back to the topic, I think we'd front load Shephards contract where he'd get a large roster bonus in 2010 and the rest of the contract would be relatively cheap. That way we take advantage of the uncapped year and keep the salary figures low the following years incase this league reverts back to capped years.

In uncapped years, I see the Jets making a lot of high priced moves along with the Cowboys, Redskins and maybe a couple other teams.

I think what he meant by,

is that although there may not be a cap, some owners won't go out spending shittons more money than they already do. I'm thinking something along the lines of the MLB where the Steinbrener's and such will spend all the money in the world, while other owners are more fiscally conservative and will try to win while minimizing their expenses.

Lito will be back. As people have said, it will in all likelihood be with a different contract, but he will be back.

I like Lowery behind him. Lowery is not (yet) a starting-caliber CB, but he's improving all the time, and those two opposite Revis make for a very nice unit.

Personally, I would like to see Lito back next year, playing healthy and (hopefully) more consistent. If we can't keep him, I feel confident Lowery can/will step up anyway.

Drafting a CB early would be a waste IMO, unless there happens to be incredible value sitting there when get on the clock; with our D-line not getting any younger and one of our starters being Douglas (who?), it certainly seems to be a more pressing need. We seem to be set at LB for at least another season (plus I love Westerman). O-line and skill positions can be considered in later rounds IMO, too.

Lito has been awesome this season. He's a key player for them. He'll be back, even if they have to restructure.
