I think it was on the Blitz. The topic was who was the most dangerous of the teams fighting for the last playoffs spots going into next week. He picked the Steelers and somebody, I believe Tom Jackson said wouldn't you want to pick a team like the Jets who control their own destiny. Dilfer completely dismiss it by saying there is absolutely no way we beat Cincy. Won't happened he said. He pretty much laughed at the thought of it. I can't get over the lack of respect we get from these commentators.

And they might be resting their starters.
Then again with our rookie head coach and rookie QB, and with some of the games we've played this season I'm not surprised.

And since when did anybody care about the opinion of an ESPN analyst?

I think Trent Dilfer has been one of the better NFL analysts for ESPN in a long, long time.

He is really against starting rookie quarterbacks and that probably has a lot to do with his comments about the Jets.

Dilfer absolutely hates Tom Brady and the Patriots, and it's always funny to watch him call out Brady for playing like a girl.

We don't really deserve a whole lot of respect as a team, but it was a dumb comment because we actually do have a good shot at beating their backups. Now, if their starters play the whole game, then I think we should be underdogs.

Our defense deserves respect, but not the whole team. What have we done to earn it this year in regard to wins and losses? Yeah, we have some good stats, but I'd rather have shitty stats and a team that can reliably win. You never know what you get with the Jets. The only reliable thing about the Jets is that they are unreliable. Yet, I'm still addicted to pulling for them.

If we had Trent Dilfer, we wouldn't be in this situation. But as an analyst, who cares? All 5 on NFL Countdown picked the Colts, and we won. On NFLNetwork, they've "popped" our playoff bubble twice. I don't care if we back in, making the playoffs is within our reach.

Backing in doesn't exist in the NFL

i dont think thats true at all...

teams can lose the last 2 games and still find themselves in the playoffs.

backing in also has something to do with momentum

So what? They still won enough games earlier in the season to make it in.

I'm sure Trent Dilfer also said there was no way the Giants could beat the Pats in the Super Bowl or even that the Jets would beat the Colts last night.

    whatever.

I'm more inclined to enter the playoffs under the radar anyways.....I don't want the media to pick us to win....I want the Jets to shove it down their throats.

Get over it. We're good but we haven't shined yet. We beat Cinci and the media will be on our nuts.

I doubt there are a lot of teams who want to face our defense. I bet there are a ton of defenses that are salivating at the thought of facing Sanchez.

    Fixed that for ya.

A half dozen high percentage passes off of play action, and Sanchez would not be throwing picks in bunches.....

I thought I saw a couple last night, so maybe hope is not lost.

If Schotty calls a game like he did yesterday next week, I like our chances. Sanchez only threw 19 times (completed 12 for > 60% completion on the day) and we ran the ball for 200+ yards. Let the defense and number 1 rushing attack win the ball game, not the kid.

sure but how many times has a team that won enough games earlier and faltered at the end of the season make an early playoff exit and a team that gets hot at the end of the year make a run?

How can you blame them, after the kind of anemic offense Jets showed all year?

Some people just never cease to amaze me, that's for sure.

I'm surprised and would like to hear this myself (just in case the TS isn't accurately portraying Dilfer's comments).

Forget the company he works for for a minute; Dilfer is one of the best analysts because he actually watches film, is experienced in playing the game, is pretty intelligent, and doesn't speak out of both sides of his mouth. He's not afraid to assert his opinion and usually backs-up his statements with substantial evidence and logical reasoning. Why he would laugh off the idea of us beating Cincy is very puzzling.

every announcer is so hung up on the Steelers because they are the Steelers but they have sucked ass on defense and the only reason they even won yesterday is because the Ravens starters missed open passed, held on a TD run, and a penalty. I mean I could see if the Steelers beat the Ravens with a no doubt victory but they were lucky. People want to say we were handed a game against the Colts, but we still had to score points and play D - we did that. The Ravens gift wrapped a game for the Steelers and that is over looked because people are still looking at the reputation of the Steelers and not the product on the field.
