Im messing around on the yahoo playoff generator and it is crazy with all the scenarios. It looks like if we get in, we are most likely meeting Cinci in the first round, playing them back to back weeks. Not sure if this is good or not. If cinci loses next two ( i know they play kc this week) and Baltimore wins out (while we get losses from denver, Jax and miami) it looks like we will play Baltimore in the first round. I also worked out a scenario that has us playing new england. At the end of the day, there is a strong possiblity of playing Cinci.
we'll be watching a lot of those teams, the Jets won't be one of them........admire the optimism though ; )
It's either Bengals or Pats. It really could go either way at this point, assuming we do get in. I'd rather play the Pats for the sole reason we won't be playing them back to back weeks.
huh? i'd rather play the pats because beating them in the playoffs would redeem the entire season. who cares about playing back-to-back weeks? it's actually easier to go into Cinci, IMO. I have this theory that the Pats still cheat, but since the league is watching them closely, they're doing it with video equipment built into the stadium (built after BB came on board). Hence their horrible road record, but undefeated home record. So that's the only reason I wouldn't want to play the Pats. Otherwise, bring 'em on!
It might be easier to go into Cincy, but I don't think them playing them possibly playing their backups against us going all out trying to win, then playing them the next week, would be a good situation for us. In the end, I really don't care who we play. I'll take our chances with our D vs anyone, and I just want to get in.
After spending about an hour alone with the Yahoo Playoff Generator, I'm amazed at how alive we really are for the playoffs. The most unlikely thing that needs to happen in order for us to make the playoffs is actually just us winning our last two games. For the sake of argument, let's assume we do win out. There are actually a ton of scenarios that would get us in. In fact, there are even a few in which either Miami or Jacksonville could win out and we would still be in. Overall, the most likely scenario seems to be the one people have already alluded to: Either Baltimore OR Denver loses 1 game + Miami losses 1 game + Jacksonville loses 1 game. But again, even if that doesn't happen, there are a bunch more that would work just fine. The point is, I actually think there is a good chance that if we win out we make the playoffs. The problem is, I have very serious doubts that we will actually win out. We'll see.
In case anyone is interested, here are odds on which teams get in: make playoffs/miss playoffs Baltimore: -310/+230 Denver: -230/+170 Miami: +300/-420 Jacksonville: +360/-540 Pittsburgh: +475/-825 Jets: +800/-1700 Houston: +1300/-3000 Tennessee: +2000/-6000
http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/playoffodds Jets at 11.6% to make it. Miami 8.9% Baltimore 81% Pittsburgh 11.8% Jacksonville 12.3% Houston 3.6% Tennessee 2.7% Denver 73.3%
The main reason we are so low here is no one expects us to win both of our two remaining games. If we ever did, we'd have an excellent shot . . .
why do i get the exact same feeling....the jets will once again find themselves in a position to get into the post season but will somehow find a way to muff it
Playoff picture easy breakdown Bottom line is the Jets need to win the last 2. That puts them at 9-7. The Jets need the following teams to lose: Baltimore Denver Jax Miami At 9-7, New York would win tiebreaker with Steelers (conference record), Titans (h2h) and Texans (h2h); New York would lose tiebreaker with Jaguars (h2h) and Dolphins (h2h). So to break it down simply, if the Jets win their last 2 games and Miami loses to Houston, Denver lose to philly, and baltimore loses to Pitt we are in as a 5 or 6 seed. As for this week... 1 pm games We need Houston over Miami NE over JAx Pitt over baltimore If that happens..and there is a good chance it will, we need to win..obviously and Philly to beat Denver. That is the perfect set up for this. If all this happens, the jets beating Cincy would put us in no matter what. We would own the tie breaker vs Balt and Denver and Pitt.
Am I correct in saying that even if only 3 of those 4 things happen the Jets would still control their own destiny?
