Why not? Singletary made a living playing behind one of the biggest DT's of his day in William Perry and Cody would be just as much of a space eater in a 4-3 or 3-4 Alignment. With a move torward a hard nosed brand of football by Mike I would not be supprised is he wanted to up grade that line.
Assuming the Niners go OT (need another OT with Staley), then defense should be their other 1st rd pick. The Niners could use an upgrade at almost every defensive postion. The Niners do play in a 3-4 and could use a nose tackle, so it's not out of the equation. Upgrading the MLB position next to Willis is a strong option, Takeo Spikes is running on fumes. Wilhelm and McKillop are decent, but not difference makers. Rolando McClain & Patrick Willis???...best in the NFL. Joe Haden would be a great addition with their first pick. Another outside rush OLB would be nice, also a safety. Mays was projected, by many, to the Niners last year before he decided to stay at USC.
I agree with your inital look at the 9ers. The issue becomes how vital a NT is in the 3-4. Its a very rare thing to have a man that is able to take on and shed multiple blockers. It adds a different dynamic to the system. Pouha has been playing well, but its obvious he is no Jenkins when it comes to getting penetration on plays where it is called for. Cody Is able to controll an area and get penetration at times. Most big men are not adept at both. In that respect I would not be shocked at seeing a team like the Titans taking Cody at there spot. You see how much thier defense fell off after the loss of Hayensworth, gettign a huge run clogger would not be out of the question for them. Just because he is a great fit in the 34 do not rule 43 teams out as well.
Looking at Today's games.....ATL loses...so the Jets fall to the 17th place at best...could fall to 18th/19th depending on the Giant's game tonight and Miami's/Baltimore's SOS. I'll update the Draft Order Tuesday Morning. I'm resigned to the fact the Jets will be drafting in the very late teens...like last year, before the trade with the Browns.
Updated for week 14....Post #1. I kept week 13 as a comparison. As I predicted, Jets moved down to 18th. Jacksonville moves ahead of the Jets based on SOS..nothing to do with head to head. Jets are on the cusp of the playoffs....have to win the next 3. Indy is resting half their squad, Cincy and Atl are beatable. Jets have to play mistake free football to make the playoffs.
Hi WW85... thanks for the effort in making this thread but... have you read the new rules about the NFL draft order? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_NFL_Draft ciao
Mambo...thanks, I heard about the draft order changes based on playoffs and record. Excellent rule change!!! Still, winning pct & strenght of schedule is the main determing factor. It screwed the Jets last year....San Diego. Can't determine who's in the playoffs or who's out this early, got to base it PCT & SOS.
You're welcome... I really enjoy your posts/threads and the draft part of this site in general. Anyways the only "certain" thing up to now is, if we don't make the playoffs, we'll be picking in the 12-20 range. I'm guessing it'll be in the 16-18 range...
I'll update this Tomorrow....tuesday. My guess the Jets move up to #15...based on SOS Pct...there is a log jam at 7-7
Jets and Texans have the same SOS but the Jets have a better CONF record. This might make it easier for you: http://gorgonshire.tzo.com/mlive/draftorder.asp
Appreciate the link...looks accurate, I pasted and copyed it to the first post of the thread. Looks like if the Lions don't win another game they may be the winners of the Ndamukong Suh sweepstakes.
After this week its looking mroe and more like late teens. Hence the talk of Golden Tate as opposed to Cody of late I think. There will still be some very strong talent around in the 16-20 range.
It seems the Jets will be in 21st position this week......that's OK... cause you're in playoff position. I will update tomorrow. Looks like St Louis is the #1 pick.
Updated!! Jets in 20th....but is sure to change. With a Jet win (playoffs).....Giants and Seattle (Denver) (Ravens win) will be ahead of the Jets.

Coin flip? PS thanks for the work WW85 PS If San Fran drafts well this year they'll have a monster team! C.J. Spiller and Haden and they'll kick asses...
