There's one difference....when Chris Johnson was drafted, Tennessee was picking BPA and not for a specific need. We don't have that luxury this year...as we have some depth concerns at numerous positions. I like Spiller too....but I think I'd question Tanny if he picks a HB in the first round...
Greene needs to learn to hold on to the ball, but I would not call him struggling. He averaged 3.6 per carry on 10 carries in Carolina. 5.4 per on 11 in Buffalo. 6.8 on 6 in Tampa. Once he learns to protect the ball better he will be just fine. He's not getting carries is the bigger issue and he should not untill he proves he's taken care of his mental issues. He looks just fine runnign the ball.
The titans did need a #1 wr and with lendale white and chris henry drafted previously. Chris henry in the 2nd in '07 and White in the 2nd '06. And i think DE at the time was a high need as it still is today. Look im not saying i want CJ Spiller over everybody, but if we pick Dan Williams over Spiller id be dissapointed. In that situatuion you just have to choose the bpa or trade down.
One pick I'm not sure about is San Fran taking Campbell. They already drafted Joe Staley and both seem like the kind of lean, pass protecting left tackles and if they ever go to a more ground and pound offense Singeltary wants I'm not sure either fits at right tackle.
I would have went Bryan Bulaga, a better fit for RT, but he went one pick earlier. San Fran has to address OT with one of their 1st Rd picks.
Understood and it's nitpicking. If I'm San Fran under that scenario of I'm going to take a corner in the 1st I'd probably prefer Haden with the 1st pick then take maybe Anthony Davis with the 2nd. If I remember right, you're not a Trent Williams fan?
I don't think its very off the wall at all and I love the pick, it's logical, a young fresh potentially great RB would be a huge asset to this offense, I thought they were going to take a Back last draft and they didn't, they got lucky LT broke out of his slump this year, but he isn't going to keep it up for long. And LT breaking out was a huge reason for their turn around this year. Great pick.
I'm not a Davis fan at all. Probably will play OG on Sundays. TW....Not in rd 1, he's been exposed. I had hopes for Williams before this fall, not anymore. Could never project to LT......RT is where he'll end up playing.
I like Anthony Davis as a right tackle or a guard. I could see a team like Pittsburgh taking him in in the late teens of the first. Davis seems to play very hard in competitive games, but loses motivation when his team is down. The guy's a heck of a run blocker, so he'd fit in nicely as a New York Jet...but we need to fix our interior pass pro, so Iupati should be the offensive lineman we take, if we do decide to go offensive line. It's looking more and more like we'll be picking between 11-13, so Iupati and Davis will be HUGE reaches in that area. Hopefully we'll have a shot at Joe Haden or Mount Cody. Watch out for Michigan CB Donovan Warren - I really think he's going to shoot up draft boards, a lot like our very own Darrelle Revis. It's going to be really interesting to see which corner claims the #2 spot behind Joe Haden: OK State's Perrish Cox or Donovan Warren.
Right now, it really depends on how his combine goes. Warren hasn't reached his full potential yet. Todd McShay bashed him pretty hard for leaving early, but in my opinion, it was the right move. This is a weak cornerback class and Warren has a chance to be right behind Haden if things go well. If Warren passes guys like Perrish Cox and Boise's Kyle Wilson, then he'll definitely be a top candidate for the Jets' first round choice.
I don't why Davis couldn't play LT in the pros. He shut down Greg Romeus and George Selvie by himself, and he has the size and athleticism to play the left side. If you think he's a better fit at RT thats one thing but nobody is going to draft him to play guard.
CB a possibilty. Ryan knows his defense can attack non-stop if his defensive backs are dominant. Darrelle Revis can only do so much. I know we have bigger holes like defensive end, offensive line, and safety...but corner is still a possibility, especially if our coaching staff and front office consider that player to be the BPA.
1) You thinking G or RT? I would really like us to draft a RT somewhere in this draft... after hearing WW85 rave about Iupati I took a look and he is dominant at G but I think we'll have to suffer through the Faneca saga one more year. 2) Are you assuming we trade Rhodes? I mean yeah I think it's a possibility but if he winds (is that how you write it?) up staying I think we're good at S. Yeah I guess I have hopes we sign Sheppard to a 2 year deal... that's why the CB selection seemed weird. Problem is the talent on the board (how it's set now) doesn't match the position we are picking at (i'm thinking 12-18)... hopefully we will be able to trade down. Only guys (talent-wise) that wouldn't be a reach that high in the draft are Hayden (but I'm hoping we don't have to go CB) and Cody (but I kind of re-thought the NT argument). Getting one between Norwood, Gresham (with a major trade down), our future RT or our dominant S (if we trade Rhodes) in the 22-32 range would be sweet. Of course if Hayward declares stay put and grab him but I don't know if that'll happen... plus there will be some good DE prospects in rd 2...
Cameron Heyward or Carlos Dunlap in the first would be awesome. However, it's looking like Heyward is staying and Dunlap will likely be off the board. Hopefully, Heyward will dominate against Oregon and decide to leave. Eric Norwood would be a great pickup towards the end of the first round. I would be upset if the Jets drafted Jermaine Gresham...too much money invested at tight end. This team needs to sign a GOOD blocking tight end (not Ben Hartsock). Unless we win out, I think we'll end up with pick 12 - that means Iowa's Bryan Bulaga, who's a hell of a right tackle prospect, will probably be available. I'd like to see us trade back in the first if Cody, Haden, Dunlap, and Heyward are gone though. We can draft Iupati or Anthony Davis somewhere in the 20s.
