Want to blame someone for the Offensive performance of the Offense last week ? Try the Jets first. by Niko Houllis - Dec 20, 2009 > http://www.bucem.com/2009/12/20/1209454/want-to-blame-someone-for-the
You know... We do have a great team when all is said and done. Seriously. We have a lot of great and young players. What we also have is a rookie HC and QB, and a cutesy OC. It's HARD (obviously) to win games in the NFL. No matter what team you're playing. What did we all expect out of this season? .500 or somewhere around there? I really hate how this league and the media in general is so much about "win now" and don't realize what a quite possibly special group this is. It's disappointing, but I can honestly say I feel better about this team going forward then I ever did (well, maybe aside from the playoff game against the Steelers where we botched two fielld goals) I was never in love with Herm Edwards though. Nor was I enamored over Mangini at any real point in time. This team has the potential to be great next year. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt.
when is the "great potential parade" i'll be sure to make that one.the reasons we are .500 are the reasons everyone is pissed about it
It's right after the most depressed poster parade, congrats on that. You can choose to see things one way (depressing as shit), or realistic and be happy that out team is only getting better from here. This is not the Same Old Jets, the Same old Jet fans have to get that through their thick skulls.
It sure smells the same. And "realistically"...how exactly are we getting "better"? Better than what? Even Rex Ryan, who should know this team better than anyone else, has pretty much packed it in. "We're obviously out of the playoffs, and that's unfortunate." He sounds downright realistic, don't he? How's this for realistic. You bump Tony Gonzales at the los and he doesn't score. We're gonna wrap up this season at 7-9...with a top ranked rushing game and a top ranked defense. To me, that's pitiful after being 3-0 to start the year.
Good Lord- The defense is going to get better. IT WAS THEIR FIRST YEAR IN THIS SYTEM. They'll be more aware of everyone's positions not just theirs. Mark will be better with more experience and so will the chemistry he has with his targets. Or you can be like most Jet fans and bitch and act like your life is over. THIS IS NOT THE SAME OLD JETS- but I'm sure you think they are, and that's the only reason why that term even exists, because of the fans. You know the players damn well don't think like that. Just keep being negative that should get everyone real far in life-
I've been a Jets fan since 1967. My family has had season tickets since 1960. Been there through the ups & downs. I've sat through plenty of meaningless end of season games freezing my ass off. I don't use the SOJ's phrase, and I don't pay much attention to off field antics either. I like Sanchez. I like Rex Ryan. I like our emphasis on solid defense. I like the direction that Ryan wants to take this team. It's been a long time coming. But I can tell when a team's on field performance is improving. The truth is found right there on the scoreboard. For the last dozen years or so, this is a team that always seems to be in transition. And as such, there's going to be games or even plays that are emblematic of the direction that the team is heading. Telling moments. Like the third & goal from the 2 yard line midway through the 2nd quarter. Sanchez made some absolutely great throws to put them on the 2, and our fantastic run game is gonna score easily, right? At the snap, the OL gets a great surge and Jones, following the (airborn?) fullback, gains 0 yards. Zero yards. Teams that are getting "better" are able to pick up yardage in that situation. You want negativity? Check out the look on Schottenheimer's face after that play. Pure disgust. Ryan wasn't much happier. And they work for the Jets. They get all that nifty swag for free. That was right before the field goal attempt that Clemens bobbles. The first of three botched field goals. Teams that are improving score points when they can...especially in close games. They don't fuck it up every time. But this "improving" Jet team went three scoreless quarters against a mediocre team that had absolutely nothing to play for. And with a playoff spot within reach, at home no less...they managed to conjure up ZERO points. ZERO. They pretty much have to get "better"... The defense is the least of our worries.
Same old Jet fans have been watching this team spin in circles for decades now, a little rise here, a small trough there, but basically the problem is the organization itself. A good organization has a plan and an end goal that it is always aiming at. It has an identity in mind for the team that has been proven to be effective in the past and it's always aiming at recreating that identity - on the not unreasonable proposition that getting to the proven effective identity is likely to create success moving forward. This Jets team has no master plan. It has no proven identity to get to. It just spins its wheels season after season, adding talent here, seeing injuries erode talent there, never really closer to the big show than it was three seasons before and frequently changing identities along the way. I think the talent on the team is probably at a fairly high water mark at this point. I really can't remember a Jets team that has as many potential all-pros as this one. On the other hand many of those guys are mid to late career not early and if you look at where the Jets have been it's clear that they didn't win anything with the assemblage of talent, some of which was not even on the team when they made their bones. I just see drifting at this point. Another wave on a vast expanse of water with the shoreline nowhere in sight and one that is likely to flatten out again before we get anywhere important.
hardly.what you got to realize though is,we hire the savior very 4 years and call for his head every 3.so forgive those who want to take a more wait and see approach.besides gholston, ryan leaf, jamarcus russel, blair thomas, and mike mamula all had potential too:up:
How is this team getting better exactly? We played like crap in all phases of the game yesterday. We have one of the worst passing games in the NFL and we are unable to score TDS, execute a 2 minute offense, execute a field goal or defend a lead in the 4th quarter. We started out 3-0 and have gone 4-7 since then. Where is the great improvement?
If this team is not getting blown out and has a chance to win ( most every game), the team is losing because of coaching and a weakness in a key position (QB)...........we need to replace and win now. The defense doesnt need to get better....its really good. The receivers are fine, the running game is really good... if we had an average quarterback we would have a playoff spot locked up. We could have had Quinn or D. Anderson instead of sanchez.....i would have rather seen Ratliff and Ainge..... so say thank you to Tannenbaum for fucking this season up.
I don't want to hear about how we will supposedly be getting better sometime in the future. That is such BS. Stop talking about transition year and rebuilding and injuries and rookies and any other excuses you want to throw up there. Its all BS. WIN FOOTBALL GAMES OR STFU.
wow i don't even know what to think about this. you want quinn?6-16-60 yd 1 int against the chiefs quinn?or the 2 guys that can't beat him out?fuck man how come your not employed by one of the 32 franchises?
our D is lookin' pretty good. our QB is a rookie & at times has played like one. we'll " fine tune " some dept.'s in the off-season & come back next season to make the playoffs . .
This. It's frustrating as hell, but the truth is Rex Ryan came in and we have the #1 defense in the NFL. 4 games we lost the lead in the 4th quarter to lose the game. We hold onto those leads, or build bigger leads through the course of the game, and we win all 4 of those games. If that happens we're 11-3. It's the little, finer details that need to be worked out and the ability to finish and play the entire 60 minutes. Sanchez would be so much better I think with an off season to work out with the coaches and team. When we get Leon and Jenkins back this team could very well be unstoppable.
