I went and so did I whole tailgate crew- Since this is a fan thread, can we replace the fanbase? Not all you just the people that complain every week about every little thing. It's disgusting. My favorite part is that everyone thinks they're a better HC, OC, QB, WR, LB, CB, and SS/FS. It's laughable-
Well said. I have better things to do. The team needs to earn their fan's respect, not the other way around. Oh, and I still have my tickets for the last game for sale. No offers, how shocking. I was totally expecting those bitching to actually go to the game and show us all how to be "real fans".
+1 Like I said earlier, a good product on the field will put fans in the seats. Not the other way around.
I made it to the game, it was pretty empty though. Not nearly as loud as it should have been on that 4th down play, but everyone who was there was standing.
We were playing in a game that could have bumped us up to a tie for the 1st WC spot. We were not 3-10 coming into this game. if a game in Mid-late dec can't get fans excited to see a game then we have no hope.
It all comes down to putting a value on your time. For me, it had nothing to do with playoff implications. A combination of the weather, traffic, and a few other things made me decide that my Sunday would be better spent at home with my family even though I had $300 invested in the game. It happens. You can sit here and talk until you are blue in the face about playing for a wildcard spot and how it's bullshit that those who stayed home did so because they knew the Jets would blow it yadda yadda yadda. But you know what? Look what happened. Joke's on who? If I could do it all over again, what do you think I would do?
Well put. It's about priorities. If it were a playoff game, I would've found a way to get there beacuase it would have been fun and exciting for ME. But yesterday, just before kickoff, I was outside building a snowman with my kids, then I dried off, relaxed in my warm home in front of of my 65" HDTV (w/ the Sunday Ticket), ate some good food, had some beer, wine, coffee, etc over the course of the afternoon, watched the 4:00 games... Who had the better day? Me, or those of you who braved the weather to freeze your ass off and watch a pathetic performance. Even if they'd have won, no doubt about who had the better day. Those of you who think you need to sacrifice personally to support millionaires playing a game are out of your mind. When I go to games it's because I want to enjoy myself. if I feel I may not, I don't go, simple as that.
That describes a frontrunner. The games aren't always about what happens on the field, it's the good times we have w/ family, friends, etc.. We don't want you to show up if it's a playoff game, if they aren't worth your few hours on Sunday(for only 8 days a year) for a big game like yesterday then they aren't worth your time for a playoff game. There are alot of great fans that can't go to games b/c maybe they don't live in the NY area or maybe they can't afford it. I just wish we could give those folks tickets to fill the place when the ones who don't wnat to go can't make it.
See that is you Junc. In my family there are only two football fans, me and my brother. None of my friends are football fans so either I go alone, with my brother if he is even around or take my wife who would go just to go with me. There are probably more fans like me, plus I live over 2 hours away on a good day. So imagine yesterday, go to the game, game sucks major ass like most Jets games, then wait to get out of the parking lot, maybe get home 2.5 3 hours later. What a fun day that would have been.
Ha! My family's had season tickets since '72. Frontrunners? You need to learn some Jets history. Oh, and I watch games (TV and in person) to WATCH football - it's not a social event. I guarantee I know more about that game than 95% of the people on this board. Having said that, I'm 37 now, with my own family, and I have grown up. I now choose to be a SMART fan, and put my priorities in order. What you described is someone who is delusional - a person who actually thinks their presence affects the outcome of a game they're not playing in. Wake up man! If you are not going to the games to personally have a good time watching football, but just to "support" your team, you're crazy. You need to get a out a bit more and realize there are better things to do with your time then frustratingly cheering for grown men to do a good job for THEMSELVES - they don't play for you and me, remember that! Again, I follow the Jets because I enjoy watching my team - the competition, the highs and lows, etc. But if I'm not going to enjoy myself, I don't make the effort to go in person, period. If you actually enjoy being a cheerleader for millonaires in sub-freezing weather while sacrificing personally, throw on a skirt, grab some pom-poms, and have a ball! Just don't tell those of us with better things to do what we should be doing.
I can see your point, however the play on the field, PSLs, Woody's lack of appreciation or care for the fanbase, etc. have caused many of us to examine our priorities. One can be a fan without being a sucker.
There's nothing wrong w/ what your saying...and on the surface...it's hard to argue with. But this fanbase is extremely passionate. We've paid our due's through alot of crappy years on and off the field. We DESERVE to see a winner. There have been alot of crappy games in terms of weather and the team's performance in the past..in which the games had some very good turn outs. There comes a point where the fan base needs to show the franchise how they feel about the misery this team provides. The only voice we have is our asses in the seats. Consequently..we need to let this front office know that we are fed up w/ the late season choke jobs.
Exactly. It is hard to call any Jets fan a bandwagon fan. Who the fuck wants to be on this bandwagon. And before anyone goes on a rant. I did not say anyone here said they are bandwagon fans.
I have been to almost every Jet home game of the last 20 years and 70% of the time I have gone alone b/c no one would go w/ me when they stunk. I was at that Snowy game against pitt alone, I was at the Dec games in 1995 and 1996 and I know how much it sucks to leave that place especially after a loss but this was a big game. I can understand people not going when they suck, I don't get it when we are playing a big december game which we don't often get. It's not a social event for me either but for most people it is, they enjoy tailgating and all the stuff that comes w/ it. i just love watching football and hopefully watching the Jets win. I'm w/ you, I care less and less w/ each passing year BUT I still love football and the opportunities for big December games at home have been very rare in the 20 years I have been going to every game so I appreciate those Sundays but when there's an empty Stadium there's no atmosphere and it sucks. What makes the games great are the loud crowds that are into every play, in a long line of embarrassing moments to be a jet fan yesterday's lack of crowd was right up there. B/c you have had season tickets since '72 doesn't mean anything if you don't go to the games. That's a reason we don't have a great homefield b/c the tickets don't go to real Jet fans. The bottom line is there are 8 Sundays a year, some days there will be other committments and you have to miss games but when you can't handle sitting out in the cold you shouldn't have season tickets since half the games are usually played in the cold. Stay home, watch the games, save your ticket money and buy a nice new TV and have fun. Let real fans who will go every game no matter what the weather get those tickets so we can finally gte a homefield advantage.
I hitched hike to get to the train station to sit on a train for two hours to get to the game..and then i hit a falcons fan with a snowball in the face from a level below him...the fans didn't lose anything
Great point. Keep paying big money for crap, why would you ever be served otherwise? You summed up my decision to give up my families tickets after almost 40 years. I refuse to be a sucker.
So....you are only half a fan from what I can tell. The Chargers fans created 2 delay of game penalties and 1 Twelve men in a huddle penalty by getting loud in yesterday's game. So, yes the crowd CAN and DOES affect the outcome in games. If you don't get that, then I would seriously question how much you actually "know"
