we beat the colts nearly 41 yrs ago when we weren't supposed to have a chance so i suppose we might be due to beat them again when we don't have a chance....
Even if we win out, our chances are like 50/50. Win one of those awful losses (Miami x2, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Atlanta) and we almost control our own destiny.
Playoff picture in a nutshell Baltimore must lose 2 or Denver must lose 2 ...Baltimore and Denver both could very well lose next week, baltimore is at Pittsburgh and Denver is at Philly... Baltimore then goes to the suddenly hot raiders and the Broncos host the Chiefs.. I actually think the broncos somehow choke again. Miami must lose 1 of final 2 games. They host Houston and Pittsburgh Jacksonville must lose 1 of final 2 games. They are at NE and Cleveland ASSUMING the Jets win out, because this is there only possible way of making the playoffs now, IF pittsburgh, Tennessee and Houston all finish with the same 9-7 record, the JETS own the tiebreaker over all of them due to Conference record (7-5 compared to 6-6 and 5-7's) NE over Jax Houston over Miami Pitts over Balt Phi over Denver Jets over Colts We are on life support.. Crazier things have happened. Beating Miami on a field goal to make the playoffs or going in on a 9-7 record by beating the shit out of a strong GB team. All i want to see is a week 17 that gives me a reason to be glued in front of the TV from start to finish...
No. That's not the playoff picture and we don't need one of the teams to lose twice. Just for starters, if Denver beats Philly and loses to KC, and we win our last two, we'd win a tiebreaker over them due to better conference record. If you want an accurate picture, read the last few pages.
well I doubt rex noticed how many people in front of us had/would lose later in the day. In fact I thought we were basically eliminated too. I had no idea we still had even an insane shot at the postseason much less 50/50 if we win our own games. Now that Rex realizes we still have some semblance of a shot, I think he will get the boys fired up and ready to go out and play a great team on Sunday.
I think people here are much more depressed than they need to be. Here's what we need to control our own destiny: Jets win this week vs IND + 3 of 5 happen DEN loses to PHI (@PHI) MIA loses to HOU (MIA) JAX loses to NE (@NE) BAL loses to PIT (@PIT) CIN loses to KC (CIN) and BAL beats PIT We own the tie breaker over DEN (tie on conference, win on common 4-1 vs 3-2), CIN (head-to-head), BAL (tie on conference, win on common), TEN (head-to-head/conference), HOU (head-to-head/conference) and PIT (better conf). Just about everything broke the right way for us yesterday and as strange as this sounds, our loss to a non-conference foe was less bad than every other loss by our competitors (DEN, MIA, JAX all lost to conference opponents). DEN and JAX losing looks likely to me. I know a lot of people are saying it's over, but honestly, we can get in and it's not that much of a stretch. There are a ton of scenarios where we can get in at 9-7: Jets win 2 + 3 of 5 happen: MIA lose 1 (HOU and PIT) DEN lose 1 (@PHI and KC) JAX lose 1 (@NE and @CLE) BAL lose 1 (@PIT and @OAK) CIN lose 2 and BAL wins 2 (note since Jets play CIN in week 17, it's just CIN loses to KC in week 16) Don't give up on your team yet. This is a lot like 2002.
its correct. If the Jets go 9-7, and everyone else goes 9-7 minus MIA and JAX who will probably go 8-8, then the Jets can get into the playoffs. Its an interesting scenario. However the Jets have to pull off a miracle and beat two very good playoff teams.
Well the thing is that the Jets give out a lot of it, and the fans feed into it more than they should.
Tangent: Lito SHeppard has had about 37 balls in his hand that have slipped right out this season. Arg.
Well, it's not quite as simple as I made it out. There are scenarios where if MIA is ahead of us and tied with DEN, DEN gets the 5 seed ahead of MIA (same with BAL). Otherwise, it's fairly accurate. From a tie-breaker standpoint: 9-7 NYJ beats head-to-head: 9-7 HOU, 9-7 TEN, 9-7 CIN (head-to-head) 9-7 PIT, (better conference record) 9-7 DEN, 9-7 BAL (tie conference record, better common) 9-7 NYJ loses to head-to-head: 9-7 MIA (head-to-head) 9-7 JAX (head-to-head/conference) 9-7 NYJ beats in 3-way or more: 9-7 HOU, 9-7 TEN, 9-7 PIT (better conference record) 9-7 DEN, 9-7 BAL, 9-7 CIN (tie conference record, probably better strength of victory since we'd be beating 14 win or better IND and 9 win or better CIN) 9-7 NYJ loses to 3-way or more: 9-7 MIA (head-to-head/division record) 9-7 JAX (conference record) 9-7 MIA loses to: 9-7 BAL, 9-7 DEN (common, strength of victory) The only complication ends up being MIA since JAX beats everyone we beat because of their superior conference record. MIA actually loses to some of the teams we beat, so that complicates things quite a bit. So to rephrase: We control our own destiny this week if: Jets win @ IND and MIA loses vs. HOU and 2 of 4 things happen: JAX loses @NE DEN loses @PHI BAL loses @PIT CIN loses vs. KC and BAL wins @PIT Thankfully, everything but the Denver game is at 1pm and the Jets game is at 4pm, so we might be in control of our own destiny before kickoff. I'd say our chances are better than 50/50 if we win out. I'd put it at around 80% given all the different ways we can get in and the quality of opponents the teams above us have. Of course, our probability of winning out is probably less than 30% so our playoff chances are around 25% tops.
Can the mods create another Jet board for positive Jet fans please?? There should be a 20 question quiz to gain access, or even a yearly fee. I'd pay not to have to read through all this BS bitching and moaning. This is my first season being on TGG and the sample size here of positive to negative fans seems to hold true to the stadium. 35-65 What's the point in being a fan if all you do is complain and boo?? That'd be like buying tickets to go see your favorite band only to beat the shit out them if they played the wrong chord at the end. This team is good and will be great, and all the naysayers now will say, I knew it all along. Anyone schmuck can cheer for a winner it takes a guy or lady with balls to stand behind your team when things are tough. It's not like we haven't been to playoffs in 20 years, get over yourselves.
