In the midst of dispair, some love for Pouha I know yesterday was asstastic, and I'm really bent about them choking. One thing I noticed, though. Sione can play ball. He is generally the fastest off the snap, and penetrates the OL fairly consistently. Also, Mike Devito and Howard Green seem to provide excellent depth on the DL. The Jets defense, anchored by Revis and Harris, will be even better next year. I only hope the O can keep up their end of the bargain next year.
I'm becoming a very big Sinoe Pouha fan, but I'm becoming an even bigger Mike Devito fan. Kid's only 25. I hope he's a rotational fixture for the next decade. Love what I've seen from Devito against the running game.
so very true. Many of us had zero faith in Sione to even spell big Jenks this year, now that he has been down for so long, pouha has really stepped up his game. He has made me a believer, the guy can play. Too bad he is also over 30, otherwise we probably wouldnt need to draft a NT of the future asap.
Multiple "The Jets Suck" threads are unnecessary. Multiple "This guy is good" threads? Absolutely necessary. Lots of posters (including myself) were scared shitless about our d-line depth before the season started. "If we lose one guy, it's all over." Well, not only did we lose one guy, but we lost the guy. And yet, our defense is statistically better now than with Jenkins. Pouha deserves his props. Mike DeVito, I think, deserves even more. I am thrilled with what I've seen out of the 25 year old. This also opens the door for what we do on draft day. I'd love a certain Mountain, and Mr. Electric has been banging the table for Carlos Dunlap, but while both these cats would look good in green and white, we aren't as desperate to pull them in as we once thought we were. I think our number one draft day priority needs to be on the other side of the line. Alan Faneca is playing in between two (should-be) pro-bowlers and he's not getting it done. He looked downright Bender-esque at times yesterday.

Looking at how he played I think we will go 50% Jenkins, 50% Pouha at NT next year and we won't draft a NT (unless a guy like Williams falls into our laps). The guy earned this opportunity. PS On a sidenote I listened to a Pouha interview and the guy just loves playing for Rex!
They had him lined up at FB and Hunter was lined up at TE, it was an obvious run set but they threw to Hunter. Sanchez just threw it too hard or Hunter would have made a play.
Serious props to Pouha, guy literally had some large shoes to fill and stepped up. Wonder if his faith has played a role, considering he's a member of the Church of Revis Christ, the latter day saints.
Yeah.. right.. Hunter would have made a play? Seriously? It wasnt a great throw I'll admit, but it was still a bad drop and perhaps the worst play call of the season. 7-3, First down in Atlanta's end and Schottenheimer (who I havent been as down on as others) puts in the beef line FINE. But to throw a FREAKIN pass to that line up? We have a hard enough time completing passes as is with our golden boy rookie let alone to a group of offensive and defensive lineman!!! I was furious after that play call. In the grand scheme of things it doesnt seem like that big of deal but it very much was. We werent running the ball at will and Sanchez was having a hard time when stuck in 3rd and longs. Two runs there and its 3rd and 3 or so at the 15, not too shabby. Instead it brings up 2nd and 10, a short run and yet another third and long- incomplete - bring on the missed field goal and eventual loss.
yeah devito has played extremely well too, big ups to them...makes me wet thinking about how good the d would be with #77 healthy
I don't think we're going to see #77 healthy until he retires. He has back and now new problems to deal with, on top of being 360lbs. I remember reading somewhere that he wants to try and drop to 280lbs after he retires which hopefully will be enough to alleviate the pain he is sure to feel after he stops playing. As for Pouha, I love how he has stepped up this season, but despite playing well and missing some football time on his mission, I really hope we grab a NT in the draft this year. having two guys at the most important position in a 3-4 defense both over the age of 30 is not a gamble Tanny should be willing to take.
