Let's just throw these numbers out there. Rookie seasons for some top QBs in the league. All numbers are based on a 16 game season. TDs - INT Mark Sanchez 15 - 28 || 0.5 TD/INT || 30 sacks Peyton Manning 26 - 28 || 0.9 TD/INT || 22 sacks Brett Favre 19 - 14 || 1.4 TD/INT || 36 sacks Eli Manning 11 - 16 || 0.7 TD/INT || 23 sacks Drew Brees 17 - 16 || 1.1 TD/INT || 24 sacks Tom Brady 19 - 13 || 1.5 TD/INT || 44 sacks Chad Pennington 23 - 6 || 3.8 TD/INT || 23 sacks Aaron Rodgers 28 - 13 || 2.2 TD/INT || 34 sacks Tony Romo 19 - 13 || 1.5 TD/INT || 21 sacks Now for QBs under Schotty: Brett Favre 2008 22 - 22 || 1.0 TD/INT || 30 sacks Brett Favre 2009 (Vikings) 33 - 7 || 4.7 TD/INT || 33 sacks Chad Pennington 2006 17 - 16 || 1.1 TD/INT || 30 sacks Chad Pennington 2007 18 -16 || 1.1 TD/INT || 46 sacks Chad Pennington 2008 (Dolphins) 19 - 7 || 2.7 TD/INT || 24 sacks Kellen Clemens 2007 8 - 16 || 0.5 TD/INT || 43 sacks Mark Sanchez 2009 15 - 28 || 0.5 TD/INT || 30 sacks I'm leaning towards Schottenheimer sucking ass.
You can't blame an offensive coordinator for mental mistakes. Sanchez isn't forcing it, he's just doing a horrendous job making his reads and progressions, and that's where the QB coach should be earning his paycheck.
Pennington, a QB who RARELY throws picks, threw 16 in this system. I'm starting to wonder if this is a system where even if you go through your reads and progressions that there's nobody open. You can't keep throwing the ball away if nobody is open, eventually you need to make some throws and take some risks
Is it a coincidence no QB has EVER SUCCEEDED in Schotty's system? I mean Pennington had his best year ever in 2008 with the Dolphins, Favre stunk here, and now Sanchez sucks. Can't wait till Schotty is gone..if were lucky he'll take a head coaching gig somewhere..hopefully Buffalo hehe that'd be 2 wins off the bat a year
A head coaching gig? Who the hell would hire him? After 06, he was a hot candidate. He has since cooled considerably since he's been exposed as an inconsistent playcaller.
I haven't seen anything diametrically different between our downfield passing game from any other team, except perhaps that we don't emphasize the deep outs and use the middle of the field. But Sanchez's interceptions have almost always been in that 10-15 yard, middle of the field type throws, the most common in virtually any system.
Edwards has gotten open occasionally. So has Keller. And Cotchery finds room. The problem is Sanchez doesn't have the timing down to exploit holes that are often open for only a fraction of a second.
