SNF guys analyzed last play...Revis on the opposite side covering Roddy White. When White went into motion to Gonzalez side, Revis stayed. Jets had no one marking Gonzo one on one. Huge mistake and kind of hard to understand. Maybe Ryan gets a little of the blame here as well.
Everyone except Rex realized that Gonzalez was getting the ball. I saw the breakdown on SNF also, and watching it in slow motion, made even more sick. Harris and E. Smith have to recognize there where Gonzalez is, and they failed to do so.
I think it was a brilliant call on 4th down. Could not have been what the Falcons were expecting to see at all. Like Ryan said, the team didn't execute it well. I guess because they barely run that defensive look. As for confusion on a MUST SCORE 4th down, I like the call.
I was yelling for the blitz...I know it was uneffective that drive, but screw it...Live and die by the blitz.
The zone wasn't the problem although Strickland followed the back and took himself OOP. Our D-line sux ballz and the only time they can get pressure is when we blitz. the play was bang-bang but you gotta get on Gonzalez .EOS>
just listened to the post game......Ryan and Revis said in separate interviews that they knew the play Atlanta called,,,,Ryan basically said someone did not know their assignment correctly......that is sickening
You win some you lose some. That was a tough one to lose. It was pretty much a "duh" moment. Of course Gonzo's getting the ball. Why leave him so wide open? What RT said about the D-line is somewhat true. They do collapse the pocket very well, but they don't often sack the quarterback. A true pass rusher (John Abraham mold?) is what this defense lacks to get to the next level.
Strickland's penalty was the real killer. Ryan made a pretty ridiculous throw to Roddy White that would have given them the ball at around the 40 I think. Instead, they get 15 free ones after the catch
While Pouha and Co. have done a pretty solid job filling in for KJ, there's no replacing that guy. You can count an at least 3-5 plays a game where he completely destroys what the opposing offense is trying to do. Whether it's smashing the RB in the backfield/near the LOS or blowing up the center forcing the QB to make a bad throw, he's a big time disrupter. You can't replace that
