Yep. They lose tiebreakers to both Dallas and Green Bay. The only HTH game they have was against Dallas, and they lost. The best they can do is 9-7 with a 6-6 conference record. The worst Dallas and Green Bay can do is 9-7 with a 7-5 conference record. So even if they tied Green Bay or got a three way tie, they're done.
Francesa (doing the NFL Now by phone) and Simms are siding with Dungy. Dungy deserves the criticism because he said something that was pretty damn stupid. Simms: "Now you know you've made it, when people are bashing you for things you said. I get that all the time." Francesa is ripping on Dallas for needing to use that as motivation.
All Dungy had to do was say "I think Dallas has very little chance of winning" and no one would say a thing - but then, of course, you don't get to claim that you're a genius at predicting things. It's pretty sad when people getting paid lots of money on TV networks have descended to the level of clowns on a message board thinking that their ridiculous blanket statements on things are somehow impressive when they either come true occasionally or are what everyone thinks is likely to happen anyway. And how is using that for motivation (which I don't believe for a second, anyway, whatever players might say) any worse than using a dozen donuts and a poor self-image that requires that you ridicule everyone else on the radio and TV, fat boy?
I was thinking earlier, and realized it was an absolute softball question. All he had to do was give the usual "I don't think Dallas will win, but hey, it's the NFL and you never know." Instead of doing that, he chose to be an idiot. Yeah, he chose a messageboard-style tactic, and just like on messageboards, he deserves to be ripped for guaranteeing something that didn't happen.
Francesa now saying Roy Williams is a bust and should be benched in favor of Crayton. I thought we were past this?
NBC isn't locked into their games at this point in the season (Weeks 11-17 is the flex period), so why wouldn't they have flexed tonight when they had the chance? Minnesota-Carolina? Not a game that should be on in prime time. The only interest now is if Minnesota can catch New Orleans, but when NBC was looking at this, New Orleans was still undefeated. Any game today not involving the Rams or Lions would be preferable.
When everyone in the media, including guys respected around the league like Dungy, say you have no chance then yes, you use that as a rallying point. No one believes in us, we will show them. It is quite common in sports. Of course Francessass does not understand that as he roots for the best team money can buy in the Yankees.
I don't listen to him during the week (stopped doing that about 6 years ago), but I listen on Sunday morning because it's the best (and only) NFL radio pregame show around. WFAN just played a BK ad (bashing McDonald's), followed immediately by a McDonald's ad.
