I put alot of time into this mock. I studied Depth Charts, upcoming Free Agents, and even visited (lurked) on almost all NFL teams message boards to get a feel for each teams needs. There are alot of players that deserve a 1st Rd grade that didn't make my mock...incredible depth. I thing I noticed....no small schools..Troy, Mac Schools, Conf USA..etc. Too many good players from good programs. Please comment, or ask questions. Hope you enjoy!!! I'll probably do one each month before the draft. Expect siginificant changes after the Combine. 1)Tampa Bay: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska.....most obvious pick. 2)St Louis: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame.....Face of the Franchise 3)Detroit: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma....Lions need defensive help. 4)Cleveland: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee...Berry is the choice, Quinn gets another year. 5)Kansas City: Charles Brown, OT, USC.....Needs O-line help. 6)Washington: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma......new GM , new QB. 7)Buffalo: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St...wish Locker declared, takes needed OT 8)Oakland: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida...with Al anything is possible..no Mays with Mitchell last year in rd 2. 9)Denver: Terrence Cody, NT, Bama....Denver needs a big body up front. 10)Seattle: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa....OT is a need. 11)San Francisco: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland.....Thin on O-Line 12)Pittsburgh: Rolando McClain, ILB, Bama...Farrior is old, Timmons is out of position. 13)Atlanta: Joe Haden, CB, Florida,..slipped slightly...teams ahead of ATL had more pressing needs. 14)Tennessee: Everson Griffen, DL, USC....a great player, that is very talented. 15)Houston: Taylor Mays, S, USC.....Texans draft another USC player in Rd 1 16)San Francisco: Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma St.......Great corner and return guy. 17)Jacksonville: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida....Timmy stays in Florida to sell Tickets. 18)NEW YORK JETS: Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee....Best Choice on the board. I'd be very happy with Williams. Some scouts have him rated higher than Cody. 19)New York Giants: Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida...Giants defense stinks..Spikes immediate help. Pierce is at the end of his career. 20)Baltimore: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St..Baltimore could go a few directions..get Flacco more help, plus 2 receivers are free agents. 21)Miami: Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois......Henne needs a Big Target. 22)Dallas: Anthony Davis, OG/T, Rutgers....Dallas needs alot of help, especially O-Line. 23)Arizona:Greg Hardy, DE/OLB, Ole Miss...pass rush help. 24)Seattle: CJ Spiller, RB/KR, Clemson...great value and need in the NW. 25)New England Patriots: Eric Norwood, OLB, South Carolina....Pass rush demon. 26)Green Bay: Jason Fox, OT, Miami,.....Rogers needs to stay healthy. 27)Philadelphia: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech.....Reid gets needed pass rush, back to drafting D-line. 28)Cincinnati: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma.....Playmaker comes back from injury. 29)San Diego: Toby Gerhart, RB, Stanford...Lt getting older...good compliment with Sproles. A pick that may raise eyebrows, but I like the possibilties. 30)Minnesota: DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson...could be the best safety after Berry. 31)Indianapolis: Earl Thomas, S, Texas,...another safety off the board 32)New Orleans: Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Mizzou...One of my favorites, and Saint's fans want him badly.
so early! Yet I think it is a very solid mock. I am assuming you did your checks with all the teams with only a single win to see who would receive the top pick correct? Top 5 is probably spot on. I don't know why but I just can't see Sam Bradford as a Redskin. You said it with Haden, he should go higher, but honestly i don't know who would pass up good-great value at a need for Haden (in the top 12) right now. Jets fans would hate it if the board fell this way in the end. Williams seems to be a heck of a consolation prize however. As it stands now, what are chances Williams would be around further down say 25? Would we be able to trade down or would it be unwise to risk it? You think Bryant and Benn go back to back? I thought for sure Benn has slid due to his low production this year. I can't see SD taking an Rb round 1 without cutting ties with LT first, and I won't believe that until I see it. I agree it would wrong to not have Gerhart (or at least a 2nd RB) go in the first, but I just can't believe San Diego is the team to go there. Looks good WW, obviously I don't claim to be any sort of draftnik like you guys do but I do enjoy the stuff to a degree.
Rule....I appreciate your Comments. Bradford was the pick with Bruce Allen hire today. IMO, Williams will be a mid/late Rd 1 pick. Williams has been a force on UT's D-Line. In fact, Williams probably can get to the QB better than Cody...although that won't be his job. Williams just needs to take on multiple O-lineman and let Harris and Scott and others do the dirty work. With Dunlap & Cody gone and Heyward on the fence about declaring...Williams was the logical choice. Benn's stock fell tremendously, his fault or not. After the Combine and NFL Team workouts Benn will be back in rd 1...but not a top ten pick as projected last summer. San Diego... was my "fun, a little off-the wall" selection. Remember following the draft and making mocks is an art, not a science. Nobody with certainity can predict the future, it's just something I enjoy. Studying NFL teams and college players can help you make educated guesses. I really don't claim to be an expert, that's an ego trip. That's for others to decide.
I have to disagree with some stuff. But the positives first, I like the diversification of the top 10. I like Thomas, norwood, McDaniel, and Davis getting some love. But, I disagree with San Fran taking Bugala over Haden with their first pick, Haden is probably to good to pass up there. In addition, I think Cox is higher up than I would have thought. Also I think Damian Williams needs to get some, despite Barkley's struggles Williams still had a damn good season. In addittion I think Jason Fox is high. Also I cannot see Toby Gerhart going that high especially over Javid Best yes I know about the injuries Best is a fantastic back (even if it is your "a little off the wall" pick). Also if SD wanted more of a power back to compliment Sproles or LT (they have Jacob Hester who gets no love) they could still get a guy like Jon Dwyer or Anthony Dixon in the latter rounds,
Passing on Haden was tough for the 49ers 1st pick....I really thought that one over quite a bit. I went OT, cause I knew Cox would be available later and the Stud OTs would be gone with San Fran's 2nd pick. Niners need to address OT...it's a must. I wasn't a huge fan of Cox a few months ago, I've studied some film and looked at opponents he faced..plus his Kickoff return ability and he's clearly a 1st rd talent. D Williams not making the 1st rd is a mild (not stunning) surprise, but like I said.." there are alot of players that deserve to be in rd 1, but didn't make it." I like Jason Fox and he's clearly the next best OT...Trent Williams has slide way down on my board. I really believe in the 5-12 range you are going to see a run on OTs. Davis was rated higher on my board...but has taken a hit. I question his work ethic and consistency. Brown is my highest rated O-lineman. Rhodes...next time please indent...it's tough to read....Thx.
I think Haden is just too good of a talent for SF to pass on with their first pick. There is a chance that Campbell could make it to their next pick but even if he didn't I think the drop off from Haden to the next CB is greater then it is from Campbell to the next OT. EIther way SF is in a great spot to really improve their team with this draft. Cleveland is going to be a very interesting spot, obviously all depending on how the new FO/CS feels about Quinn. EVen if they don't like Quinn, with Locker staying in school is their a QB worth taking in the top 5? I'm not all that high on Bradford as most seem to be. Is it confirmed that Heyward is staying in school, he would be a nice alternative for the Jets as well. I personally like Williams better then Cody as I feel he is more versatile and can be a good DE as well in our system and eventually take over for Jenkins. DO you think he can be effective as a 3-4 DE as well as NT?
speaking of which does anyone have any good video of Williams, I really have not seen him play at all
Best is out for the bowl game, so that means he'll more than likely stays in school. Do you remember other Cal backs JJ Arrington and Justin Forsett? That's who Jahvid Best reminds me of. Jeff Tedford runs a heck of a system with smallish running backs. This Saturday at 4:30PM EST, Ryan Mathews and my Bulldogs take on Wyoming in one of the shittiest bowls of the season: the New Mexico Bowl. If Mathews destroys Wyoming's defense, he'll go pro and he'll be a first round pick. Mathews is the only reason to watch this game. Former Fresno player Lorenzo Neal, who's one of the best fullbacks of all-time, says that Mathews is the best player to ever put on a Bulldog uniform. Also, you're not going to find a back like Jonathan Dwyer in the later rounds. He'll be gone late first, early second.
Love your work as always WW85 . my only eyebrow raisers are: Cox? I t'll take your word for it... Bulaga before Campbell? 4 S in round 1? No WR Williams? No Iupati? Thanks for the time you put in these things...
Cox is probably the second best CB in this draft and he's one of the nations best kickoff returners, which improves his stock. May be a slight reach in mid-rd 1.....but has all the physical ability to be a very good NFL CB. Bulaga or Campbell......I have them rated very close......Campbell has had some medical issues. 4 Safeties?...very possible. At least 3, if not 4. DeAndre McDaniel has good size and is a ballhawk, makes up ground very well. Earl Thomas is smaller, but is fast, runs 4.4, may break into 4.3 and is a big time hitter, doesn't avoid contact. Good safety class this year, CBs are very thin. Iupati deserves to be drafted in Rd 1...depends on need and who's available to other teams. WR..Wiliiams...I answered in an earlier post...^
I love the Williams pick here. Gerhart to San Diego is a fun possibility. Nit-picking here, but you have Cody listed as being from Oklahoma.
I like most of everything except for a few things: 1) I don't see the 49ers going with Cox. Partly because while I think Cox will rise into the 1st round, he will not be taken at 16. The 49ers have other needs, and with the way your mock went I think at 16 they go with Cody or Williams. Aubrayo Franklin is going to be 30 next season and he isn't a good NT to begin with. It will be hard for them to pass on a NT with one of their 1st round picks, especially if Cody is there at 16. They can take a CB at the top of the 2nd if they feel that they really need one over a safety, and Cox could even be available there. If not, Patrick Robinson, Donovan Warren, Brandon Ghee, and Kyle Wilson will be available in the 2nd round. 2) I don't see Greg Hardy getting drafted before Derrick Morgan. Some scouts and "experts" have Morgan as a Top 5 pick. The only way this happens is if a team sees Hardy as a 3-4 OLB and thinks Morgan can't play OLB. I saw that you said DE/OLB, and while I like your picks through to the Morgan pick, I just can't see Morgan lasting that long in this draft. 3) Take McDaniel out of your mock, at least for now. Originally he said that he would definitely be staying in school, and now he said if he gets a 1st round grade it would be hard for him to stay. Reports are saying that he is likely to get a 2nd round grade and return to school -- this would allow him to have a similar boost in stock like Eric Berry, whose potential did not change from last year to now but he went from a mid-late 1st round pick last year to a Top 5 lock this year after building on his already established profile. If he gets a 1st round grade, then maybe I'd say it wouldn't be a reach to put him in a mock, but right now he's leaning toward staying. 4) Something just doesn't feel right about the Gerhart pick. I think if the draft fell like that they'd either take one of the safeties, trade down, or take a defensive lineman, the latter probably being the most likely. Some very good 3-4 DEs will be on the board -- Corey Wootton, Jared Odrick would be two guys that I could see going here if Heyward doesn't declare -- and there is also Oghobaase and Austin. Their D-line needs help really bad, and one of those guys' value >> Gerhart. They can find a power compliment at RB later in the draft. Other than those 4, very nice.
I very rarely post and will say this only once I predicted Chris Johnson was going to be a star and I'm tell you all if the JETS pass on CJ Spiller they will regret it for 10 years he is going to be special what kills the Jets offense is a lack of speed just imagine its 3rd and 5 CJ & Leon are both on the field in a spead formation with 2 WR and Keller man the possibilities. He can run between the tackles and with some of the holes TJ gets he would be gone for 6 but I know most will say DL or OL.
Hmmmm...I remember posting something like this. Like I said in the other thread where we talked about McDaniel: if he gets a high enough draft grade, he'll take the money and run.
1) Cox is a slight reach, but I believe when the smoke clears...he will be a mid rd pick. 2) Derrick Morgan won't be an OLB....I see him as a 4-3 DE. Morgan might not go as high as you think...he has to find the right team that plays a 4-3 and needs a pass rusher. Mayock, the moron, has Morgan in his top 5.....enough said. Greg Hardy is kind of an enigma, hard to place his value. I do think Hardy could be a good OLB in a 3-4..like Zona. Hardy has alot of potential, if he stays healthy and adapts to the NFL 3-4. 3) I think McDaniel will declare. I've seen some great footage of McDaniel playing centerfield and making tons of plays. 4) Gerhart was a "shot in the dark' pick. Some team is going to pick Gerhart at the end of rd 1/early to mid 2 and get a fine football player. I can't move any of the 3-4 ends (Odrick,Wootton, Ogbo)you mentioned in to Rd 1.......all of them have been too inconsistent, injuries or adapting to new position after playing DT.
We can't carry 4RBs... the sooner we'll draft a RB is 2011 draft if TJ retires... I'm cool with our 3 backs for now...
If the draft fell like it would be hard for me to me accept passing over CJ Spiller. Yes i know we are 3 deep right now but who knows how long it will take Leon to recover, Jones while having another great season is in his 30's and Greene has been struggling since his game in Oakland. Spiller is special maybe not Chris Johnson special but I remember people criticizing the Titans for choosing another rb high for 3 straight years well Chris Johnson might be the best rb in the league right and Fisher looks awfully smart right now.
