good god Curtis is amazing. 6 years 7551. greatness. As for Jones, the first 3-4 years of his career is nothing essentially. Those yards are from the last 5 years or so. Could you imagine if he had started his production levels as a rookie? He would be so similar to Curtis it wouldnt even be funny
I can't argue the pick of Revis in terms of quality. I went with Martin factoring in longevity, and the fact that he was able to do this while also playing for Edwards for awhile.
The offense that was run under Hackett was very friendly to Curtis Martins ability. We used max protection and matched up with loaded boxes. We had a big bruising TE who could seal the edge and kill safties in the running game and we ran the ball in 3rd and long passing situations all the time. Revis has been put out on the island from day one and has been superb since day one. This year his play has been spectacular. Jet fans rarely get to see this type of outstanding HOF type play that isn't based on longevity simply current domination.
Wayne Chrebet or Curtis Martin- It is hard to believe both were playing in 2005, seems like they've been gone forever. Shaun Ellis 510 tackles and 68 sacks in this decade, so it's a damn tough choice. All 3
Kevin Mawae was probably the best of the bunch but I picked Ellis since he was really the only constant over the last decade. Hard to believe how much turnover our roster has had in that time.
Me too. On the poll question the fact that CM retired and did not play the whole decade is a factor, but he did play long and well enough to get my vote. Ellis for second place, btw.
Player of the decade is such a bad concept, since careers don't break down neatly into calendar decades. The best player to play for the Jets over the last 20 years is Curtis Martin. The best player from 2000 to 2009 is Shaun Ellis. You have to note that Shaun Ellis is also the only player to play for the Jets from 2000 to 2009, which is both a testament to how good he is and also to how much of an advantage he has in this type of survey. There are only 8 players from the Jets 2000 roster who have appeared in a game in 2009: John Abraham, Anthony Becht, Laveranues Coles, Shaun Ellis, James Farrior, Jason Ferguson, Kevin Mawae, Chad Pennington.
The best player based on rank in the league at his position would have been Mawae, who was arguably the best or second best center in the league from 95 through 04. Revis is arguably the best Corner in the league right now and top 5 since the day he stepped on the field. Martin as good as he was wasn't nearly the best back in any one season with the Jets with the possible exception of 04 and hard to argue he was the best back in the league in 04. Mawae was every bit as consistent as Martin and was either 1 or 2 at his position ever year Martin was gaining his thousand plus yards.
