With the first decade of the new millenium almost over it's time to vote on who you think was the best Jets player from 2000-2009. There have been lots of highs and lows in the past 10 years, but we did manage to make the playoffs four times and have built a solid foundation for the future. If you feel I omitted anyone, feel free to vote for them although I think this list pretty much covers our most outstanding players. Hopefully 10 years from now we'l look back on the decade that was and find some super bowl champions on this list.
I voted for Curtis Martin not really thinking, but heck Shaun Ellis was probably the right choice. Curtis had some great years here in 98, and 99. He did lead the league in rushing and do some great things for us these past 10 years tho. So its ether Curtis or Shaun Ellis, nether one is wrong.
I love Curtis Martin but when I think best of the decade, I think of someone who played more than half the decade no?
Adrian Clark Anthony Clement okokok Curtis Ellis Mawae Most talented: Abraham Biggest Pussy: see above In a couple of years this will all be moot..... Revis Christ by a landslide! not a big enough sample size just yet.
Funny, I was just thinking how not many people have mentioned a decade ending. I guess after a milleneum it doesn't seem like a big deal. I'd have to say Ellis, he's been here the whole time and been productive. A lot of the Parcells holdovers had the bulk of their Jet careers in the 90s, others got here late. Chad and Coles would be the next two who kind of defined the decade for us, along with Ellis--all part of the 2000 class that was here most of the decade.
only really 2-4 options... Chad Curtis Ellis Coles/Mawae. Both spent about the same number of years here this decade, 5-6. Curtis spent the least time here this decade of my list, but he was a HOF player for us, and he became the oldest player to lead the league in rushing. Can't discount he was the man! Chad was our QB, he was the basic constant, and the Jets went as he went for the 00 but again he was only a staple 02-08, and he basically missed every other year as a starter Ellis is literally the man of the decade. He was drafted in 2000, and has been here starting every year. He hasnt been a HOF guy like Curtis, he wasn't the emotional leader of the team like Chad. But he has had some great seasons in Green and he certainly has been well above average for us. Oh and he has been the longest tenured Jet for the last 3 years. Ellis gets my vote, we have had better players, but he has been the best long term for the Jets this decade.
Kevin Mawae. Arguably Parcells best pickup in moving this franchise in the right direction. He should still be playing for us. He had another 3 or 4 years left when we let him go. IMO, Tannenbaum undervalued the importance of intangibles like veteran leadership and toughness when he let him go.
I agree about Ellis but you also made a pretty good case for Curtis. He was still here at least half the decade and what he accomplished kind of trumps everyone else. I wouldn't pick him but it would be hard to argue with.
Pennington is like the girl you fell madly in love with but she ended up cheating on you. Part of you will probably always love her but you have to accept that she's bad for you.
I think Chad defined the decade for the Jets, hands down. As mentioned above me, until the last two years the Jets went as Chad went. I think our best player was Curtis, but tough to claim him as the decade player as he only played half of it. Ellis has been here and been consistent, but I think he's a solid, not great player, so this is tough.
I voted Curtis but Ellis certainly could be that guy as well. He has been very good and been here the entire time. I think it's a shame Vilma got hurt and then Mangina ran him out because he may have been the guy had that not happened. Just think in less then 3 years we'll all be going to Canton to watch Curtis go in the Hall.
